Assassin’s Creed Mirage didn’t lie to us. The new opus offers us a return to basics in due form, with an old-fashioned credo and modern mechanics à la Unity. A true melting pot - both in terms of approaches, NPCs and mechanics taken from previous ACs - Mirage is a call to almost limitless freedom. On the other hand, its old-fashioned gameplay, its small technical shortcomings and its very classic side risk leaving some behind. But fans of the license have with Mirage a gripping story, a pleasant breath of nostalgia and a new grandiose dive into great History. Yes, Basim's adventure does not reinvent the wheel, but it is an excellent way to wait for the next big game in the license, Assassin's Creed Codename Red.- Jeuxvideo.com

With this Forza Motorsport 2023 edition, Turn 10 resets the counters and delivers a car racing game with a titanium chassis capable of carrying the license for several years. Beautiful, fluid, offering very good "simcade" driving sensations, it offers the right modes with the necessary parameters to satisfy almost everyone. Both ultra permissive (in its challenge) and restrictive (in the improvements to be unlocked), this reboot is a bit of a search. Aiming at a very wide audience thanks to its numerous options, it is nonetheless dedicated to fans of pretty cars, those who are able to go beyond its definitively austere appearance (and the absence of urban circuits) to let themselves be captivated by the joys of motorized competition, both solo and online. Nice job.- Jeuxvideo.com

Counter Strike 2 did not pass the weapon to the left. This is evidenced by the many players still on the title but also the modifications made more in form than in substance. Thanks to the new Source 2 engine, maps that players have known for more than 20 years are getting a makeover without changing one bit the range of possible tactics or the gameplay sensations. Basically, this update called Counter Strike 2 seems to be more about getting up to speed with the competition than attracting a new audience. What's the point of revolutionizing a team that's already winning?- Jeuxvideo.com

FIFA 23 was undoubtedly the most complete title in the saga under the old name, and EA Sports FC 24 goes a little further despite the name change. If the title does not really move the furniture in the Career modes (whether manager or player), it drastically increases the variety of the Ultimate Team mode by adding women's football maps or the principle of evolving maps. We will especially appreciate the well-revised gameplay compared to last season, with deep races and advantageous fast players, but a fairly clever construction and pressing system. Also note, the change in visual identity of the menus, some additions of stadiums like that of Lille to properly launch the EA Sports FC lineage.- Jeuxvideo.com

How can we continue to keep a legendary video game series that has just celebrated its 30th anniversary alive? NetherRealm has decided. The apprentice sorcerers led by Ed Boon reanimate the beast and opt for a nice reboot taking care of its accessibility strategy, adding a big touch of RPG (Invasions) and deepening its gameplay with a feature previously unpublished in the series (Kaméos). Despite its aggressive Live service side, fairly classic solo/multi modes and the disappearance of elements loved by fans, the title published by WB Games hits hard if not delivering an uppercut.- Jeuxvideo.com

If it doesn't reinvent the wheel, Payday 3 modernizes its four-player heist formula with accuracy and intelligence, and that's all we ask of it. The eight missions available to date are well done - and make excellent use of the few new mechanics. All in all, the life of a “controller in hand” thug is still just as demanding. Even if we can criticize a slight lack of content, especially for the arsenal, this third part already sticks to the skin with a system of skills, difficulty modes which always make you want to start again and achieve the ideal run. A superb foundation for the future.- Jeuxvideo.com

We thought F-Zero was dead and buried since 2004. But with F-Zero 99, Nintendo made a nice surprise by bringing the Golden Fox and the Blue Falcon out of the garage. The gameplay sensations of the time are intact and both beginners and beginners can enjoy this modernized iteration thanks to its unique and energized parts. However, and quite logically, it will not replace an entire episode (remaster or new game) that many fans were waiting for. The fault is very little content at the moment and the absence of a multiplayer mode. F-Zero 99 will bring a smile back, even if only for a few hours, to all fans of the license who have been patient for 19 years. And that's already not bad.- Jeuxvideo.com

Beautiful, rich in content, varied in what it offers, The Crew Motorfest is a very good 100% arcade open world racing game. Riding on the heels of Forza Horizon, it is currently one of the most successful clones of the genre leader, even if this means that the French studio preferred to take the lead from its British competitor rather than plow its own furrow. The Ivory Tower software is more effective than surprising, but its qualities are numerous enough that we do not look at its predecessors, in retro, with regrets.- Jeuxvideo.com

When you play Lies of P, you often have the feeling of playing a FromSoftware game. Enough to highlight the qualities of the games while exacerbating its faults. They are few in number and minimal but still demonstrate FromSoftware remains a cut above and above all the undisputed master in the field. However, Neowiz and Round8 deliver an excellent copy. We remember the nervous and jovial boss fights, a permanent reflection of one's build as well as the multiple choices of possible customization. Furthermore, this rewriting of the tale of Pinocchio shows easily and in an accessible manner how our choices and our responses can have consequences on the world around us. With Lies of P, Pinocchio is no longer a wooden puppet dreaming of being a young boy since he is clearly in the big leagues.- Jeuxvideo.com

After a weekend of intense play on the courts of NBA 2K24, the observation is there: the mechanics are very different from last season to perform on the floors, and progress in the career. It is less obvious to have a very complete player online, and the new defense and contact system will delight the greatest defenders and screen setters at heart. To complement the many hours of gaming required online, the single-player content of the software is still gargantuan, with welcome new features. We will simply complain about the ever more invasive micro-transaction system to progress quickly, and a Mamba Moments mode tribute to Kobe not at the level of that of Michael Jordan last season.- Jeuxvideo.com

Pokémon Scarlet/Purple: The Turquoise Mask is an extension of the base game. Simply put, it will suit players who had a good time initially. The story unfolds without a hitch, with endearing characters with interesting themes, especially as it builds up a certain suspense. The capture system still works just as well in a region that is smaller than Paldea. The Pokémon Company also brings some new features with a refreshing photo-related activity as well as a monster hunt dedicated to competitive enthusiasts. In summary, this first part of the DLC brings hours of additional gameplay that it would be a shame to miss for fans of Scarlet and Violet. Otherwise, it is better to move on since the Turquoise Mask does not bring anything revolutionary to the formula, whether in substance with the new Pokémon or in form with the technique which still makes people cringe.- Jeuxvideo.com

For Final Fantasy 7 aficionados, the prospect of having this entire universe at their fingertips is delightful. The only downside is that Ever Crisis relies (too much?) on it and does not appear to be THE free-to-play of the moment. If we remove his clothing, what does he have left? Certainly, it is generous, overflowing with content and activities to perform, and sometimes flatters the retina despite the mix of styles. However, it does not avoid certain pitfalls (the investment time, the repetitive gameplay loop) and even deprives itself of part of the public due to its lack of translation. The fact remains that it offers a booster shot at a lower cost before Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth but will have to rely on quality updates (the missing pieces of the Collection, for example) to really do justice to this episode of the saga.- Jeuxvideo.com

Sea of Stars has everything from an excellent tribute to the biggest names in Japanese role-playing games of the 90s. A well-paced story, a cast of characters to which we quickly become attached for their assumed personalities. It manages to do the same amazing job as its role models, thanks to its jaw-dropping art direction and adventure-perfect soundtrack. If the fights are engaging and push the player to think about each confrontation, they tend to lengthen the good dynamics of the title. It is especially by the lack of evolution of gameplay for the characters that the players will be able to find a certain weariness. If Sea of Stars is therefore not as revolutionary as its spiritual masters in their time, it should still have a place of choice on a shelf of your toy library in 2023. It may well establish itself as the independent game of the year if Silksong remains discreet or even claim prices from much fiercer competition. More than a great performance for a UFO from the 90s.- Jeuxvideo.com

Baldur's Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 has nothing to envy with Baldur's Gate 3 on PC. Larian Studios didn't sacrifice its RPG to run it on Sony's console. This role-playing game retains all of the content of the PC version (even local cooperation via split screen) and offers an optimal controller experience. The few faults of BG3 are still present (in particular the “pad” interface), but for the rest, it is flawless.- Jeuxvideo.com

Titanic, massive… adjectives fail to describe the immensity of Starfield. Shining like a sun, Bethesda's software is indeed the Skyrim in space that SF enthusiasts hope for. Admittedly, by not revolutionizing any mechanics specific to the genre, the software can be seen as a small nebulous step for the C-RPG. But it's a giant leap for great video game adventures, even if some features lack depth. Gigantic, captivating in its missions, full of things to do and discover, Starfield is an undeniable success. With Armored Core 6, FromSoftware brilliantly shows that its know-how is not limited to Dark Souls or Elden Ring. The Japanese studio delivers here an action game with a rather irreproachable gameplay, at the same time tactical, demanding and ultra-dynamic, spearheading a frantic pace title... Do not be fooled by the supposedly old-school structure with individual assignments. Fires of Rubicon immerses you directly in the action, and knows how to draw when necessary linear, more open phases, bosses, not to mention still impressive panoramas. Despite a slight disappointment for the major enemies, in the 2nd part of the adventure, and a small lack of content, Armored Core 6 is an addictive title, which sticks to the skin. A great action game, even if you don't have a crush on mechas.- Jeuxvideo.com

Bethesda and ZeniMax's promise has been kept. We do have a good thirty hours of play to enjoy Necrom, however, the quality of the content offered is really uneven. On the one hand, we have very classic content that is very well known to players, on the other hand, we have interesting new features which in certain aspects would have, despite everything, deserved a little more balancing and attention, in particular for Nymic Strongholds and the Telvan Peninsula. However, Necrom remains a good expansion that invites us to spend the summer in a captivating story.- Jeuxvideo.com

The Game Kitchen manages to do very well by combining video games and Andalusian folklore. They once again demonstrate their mastery of metroidvania with Blasphemous 2 by further pushing the formula of the first episode: three weapons directly integrated into the gameplay, an atmosphere that is still just as gloomy and combat that is gratifying and far from insoluble. However, those who did not catch the first episode are not likely to be converted as the evolution remains too timid in our opinion.- Jeuxvideo.com

However, those who did not catch the first episode are not likely to be converted as the evolution remains too timid in our opinion.- Jeuxvideo.com

With its controls much more suited to the PC than to consoles, Gord is not without flaws in terms of ergonomics and readability, but it largely makes up for it with its tortured atmosphere at will. Survival in a dark fantasy world populated by nightmares is a long succession of tests and crucial choices, especially when madness awaits our units with each new incursion into darkness. Too bad that the strategic stakes impose permanent vigilance on the management side because this is done a little to the detriment of exploration and adventure.- Jeuxvideo.com

F1 Manager 2022 was a fairly successful first attempt, and F1 Manager 2023 is following suit despite a tight development time. The software is a reference on the visual rendering of the races, far ahead of Football Manager and other Pro Cycling, with clever ergonomics and accomplished graphics in the preview of the Grands Prix. Effectively helped by the acquisition of all the licenses and a faithful modeling of the pilots, the title from Frontier does not yet reach the gargantuan content and the possibilities of its elders in the genre, but a few years will undoubtedly be enough for it to become the holy grail of sports management games.- Jeuxvideo.com

What to say, what to do... if not to bow humbly in front of so much talent. Larian Studios once again proves its expertise in the field of role-playing games and even manages to sublimate the rich and complex universe of Dungeons & Dragons. Baldurs' Gate 3 is quite simply the best D&D video game adaptation ever made. This adventure “of which you are the hero” shines with its generosity, its mastery of the codes of the genre and this constant desire to surpass oneself. BG3 can boast of being the ultimate video game experience for role-players, but not only. Admittedly, this RPG requires a good PC to play in optimal conditions and proves to be a bit tough to learn, especially for the uninitiated. But to play Baldur's Gate III is to create your own story, a story that belongs only to you. Just for that (and more), the pleasure is total!- Jeuxvideo.com

It's tough to deny our slight disappointment with Exoprimal. Rather pleasant to play and offering many tactical possibilities in team play, not to mention simply insane phases with thousands of dinosaurs to face, it is clear that Capcom has not chosen the right structure: the one and only game mode to repeat on a loop is enough to drive crazy the whole first part of the game and even during the second. More solid content, a more traditional single-player campaign, more digestible writing and simply more things to do or unlock (other than skins that push you to buy the battle pass) would have been very wise to make it a fun game over time. We will probably have to come back in a few months, when Capcom has delivered a real variety through the promised seasons… but as it stands, Exoprimal looks like a dinosaur not far from having nothing but mouth.- Jeuxvideo.com

Indeed, Remnant 2 will be much more appreciated in multiplayer than alone. The customization possibilities will be multiplied (three characters with double archetypes, it's starting to do things!) And the exploration is made less bland since everyone trains from one place to another. The boss fights are all the more interesting to maneuver without being more complex. Otherwise, Remnant 2 remains quite linear and complex to appreciate, especially since some problems not corrected for the first episode are back. Something difficult to digest four years later. It is therefore difficult to turn to Remnant 2 for a solo experience. However, it shows its full potential in multiplayer to those looking for demanding games that will satisfy their thirst for customization.- Jeuxvideo.com

We understand better why it took so long for a new opus. Pikmin 4 is an exemplary sequel and the gaming world would certainly be much better off if all licenses followed its example. While keeping its DNA, the title does not just offer a few anecdotal novelties: it explores new horizons. Something to delight both fans of the license and perhaps tempt a new audience. In any case, trying out the Pikmin formula with this new opus is clearly your best option. Pikmin 4 indeed surpasses the already excellent Pikmin 3, and this for our greatest pleasure. But we wouldn't have said no to a little visual refresh and the return of the coop mode of its predecessor. Two big shadows that come to tarnish an experience yet sublimated on all the rest.- Jeuxvideo.com

The new benchmark for the Codemasters saga? F1 23 via the breath of EA Sports releases the best vintage in terms of content for the license, especially thanks to the addition of the F1 World mode. Even if you are not really well guided towards the latter, it will fill many hours of your time with its many well-renewed challenges and quests. A lack now filled for the Formula 1 saga, which is still going around in circles in the animations and its technical rendering. The 2023 opus is a great gateway to the world of single-seaters, with the bonus of the continuation of Point de Rupture, the rather interesting Drive to Survive scenario.- Jeuxvideo.com

The work of Michel Ziegler smacks of passion for a region dear to his heart so strongly that we would like to love this title more than we should. Unfortunately, on a strictly fun side, the horror adventure game turns out to be quite poor. The irrelevant clashes as well as the technique of another time inevitably moderate our enthusiasm, despite an original artistic direction. If for you the most important thing in a video game is its atmosphere, then we can only advise you to take a ticket to the dark heights of Mundaun in order to have a look.- Jeuxvideo.com

Crash Team Rumble is definitely a friendly, fun to play and accessible multiplayer game, no doubt about it. This new formula in the universe of the saga works rather well and we play games with pleasure, before coming face to face with content that is a little too thin to last over time: a single game mode, it's ultimately too little despite the specificities of each card and characters... we would have liked more of them too. So no, Crash Team Rumble is not a failure at all, but we especially hope that it will become denser over future seasons, because its potential is just waiting to be exploited more.- Jeuxvideo.com

Final Fantasy XVI is a title with a fascinating proposal, unfortunately hampered by certain aspects. Going even deeper into the action than its predecessor, the game delivers spectacular combat and rich possibilities thanks to the powers of the Primordials. These confrontations have all the more impact as they take place within an exciting story and a mature and credible universe. It is also on the graphic level that FFXVI puts your eyes on it through its clashes of Primordials and its environments, despite a fluctuating framerate in performance mode. Unfortunately, all of this is marred somewhat by linear levels, limited exploration, and sketchy staging that create a disconnect with the modernity of the rest of the experience. Despite these dated elements, the Final Fantasy saga proves with this episode and FFVII Remake that it is still able to amaze, more than 35 years after its debut.- Jeuxvideo.com

The Bearded Ladies signs a winning return to the Tactical-RPG genre after the potential trial run Mutant Year Zero. Miasma Chronicles retains the same formula in gameplay, namely a title combining RPG, Xcom-style strategy and even infiltration to make the task easier in combat. The scenario, the characters, the graphics and the sound form an organic universe largely at the level to make the game one of the beautiful surprises of the year 2023. There remain a few imperfections (camera, difficulty, etc.) to be corrected so that the Swedish studio establishes itself as the leader of the genre for the rest of its adventures.- Jeuxvideo.com

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a new masterpiece that makes Breath of the Wild, one of the best games of all time, look like a draft. By following in the footsteps of its predecessor, it is no longer a “revolution” of course, but it completes the player experience in an epic dimension that has no equal. The feeling of freedom, the feeling of living your own adventure without constraint, these are the great strengths of a game with an absolutely exceptional lifespan. Tears of the Kingdom is discovered over time, little by little, so much so that it will still have things to reveal to us for years to come. It is a jewel of absolute purity and definitely, adventure with a capital A.- Jeuxvideo.com

This Lovecraftian road trip takes you to the guts whether it's during the strategic fights that end in sweat and blood, in the introspection of the heroes or in the exploration of the dreadful places. Darkest Dungeon II made the risky bet of not being content with being an improved version of the first opus. Although we may regret some changes, we must still note that the game has found its identity. The pre-eminence of the rogue-lite aspect is the strong choice of Red Hook which thus manages to create the impression of facing adversity that is beyond us. The game is not perfect, however, suffering in particular from rather hollow passages with the diligence and from its sometimes punitive hazardous dimension. Intended mainly for seasoned players, this title will delight those who have a taste for optimization and effort.- Jeuxvideo.com

Redfall is a hodgepodge of influences that fails to excel in the many categories it aims for. Far from being uninteresting, in particular thanks to a quality level design and cogs that fit together rather well in its main systems, the title of Arkane Austin is disappointing compared to the pedigree of the studio. Unlike Prey, the game design is not brilliant or original, but in return, the app is surely the most accessible game imagined by Harvey Smith. This adventure to be lived in co-op, featuring vampires who have managed to hide the sun, is to be tested with friends thanks to the Game Pass before it is overshadowed by other outings. Bethesda's action game will divide, but not rule.- Jeuxvideo.com

With Jedi Survivor, Respawn-Electronic Arts takes us on a real Star Wars adventure. The atmosphere and the grandiosity of the sets go into light speed, thanks to the use of ray tracing and the power of the PS5 / Xbox Series generation. The open areas are really fun to ride and never veer into easy filling. The staging is top notch from start to finish, delivering both epic and touching scenes. The writing and the scenario even gain in thickness. Finally, we would have just liked the gameplay, certainly more complete, to be the subject of the same trajectory correction... Beyond a fairly classic start to the adventure, Jedi Survivor sticks to the skin - even after 30 hours of gameplay. An excellent action-adventure game and an excellent Star Wars title.- Jeuxvideo.com

In line with Forbidden West, Burning Shores is an expansion that takes advantage of all the power of the PS5. Faithful to the original formula, this DLC is adorned with some interesting novelties (enemies, characters, weapons), but brings only few new script elements. The gameplay, on the other hand, remains as dynamic as ever and the game as a whole is a visual and technical demonstration of force. Post-apocalyptic Los Angeles offers breathtaking vistas and some epic moments. A good little DLC accessible while waiting for the third episode.- Jeuxvideo.com

Is this remastered compilation tossed aside? Not in the least, since we can feel WayForward's desire to modernize the cult games of 20 years ago. But even the best will in the world is not always enough. The acceleration of the speed of the game in *2 as well as the possibility of replaying the round does not manage to put itself at the level of the dynamism of the current productions. The remasters then suffer from a slight lack of punch, a bit like a tank out of gas, to rise to the height of the original opuses. Despite this, Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising remain very good complete and accessible strategy games. If those who have already played it may be disappointed by the lack of new features to enjoy, the curious who have not touched them can discover it in very good conditions from April 21 on Nintendo Switch.- Jeuxvideo.com

This FPS is not perfect, far from it, and suffers from a certain repetitiveness that it tries to erase with undeniable generosity. The Dead Island franchise is well and truly back, a resounding return through the front door.- Jeuxvideo.com

For a game where you embody Death, Have A Nice Death just misses posterity but turns out to be a super solid rogue-lite action game, recommended to all fans of the genre. Get ready to giggle at the setbacks of Death Incorporated, to rack your teeth at well-groomed bosses, and to have endless fun, controller in hand, with cutting-edge gameplay with varied powers. Even the art direction works wonders. Overall: we especially regret a timid level design and a challenge that is a little too full-bodied, which come to weigh down the repetitiveness inherent in the genre. For the rest, it's all good.- Jeuxvideo.com
