Ghost Trick’s cohesion is why it is so special. The gameplay connects cleanly into its story, which ties together neatly and wraps up so well with an unforgettable, heartstring-pulling twist. I vividly recall beating the game and tearing up while in a parking lot a decade ago, and it’s nice to re-experience these emotions on the big screen. This is a lovely port of a timeless classic that deserves to be played by all, so change your own fate by picking it up since it’s a special game from start to finish.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective was a fantastic DS remaster candidate for several reasons, including its acclaim and low reliance on the top DS screen. It stands to reason that a modern console and PC refresh would be met with excitement from both fans of the original and those who never got to play it the first time around, but to say that expectations were exceeded would be an understatement. If you’re even remotely curious about the title or want to see how 3/DS remasters should be done, it’s really no mystery that you should pick up Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective.

As with most ports, Ghost Trick is mainly going to appeal to those that hold it in esteem since its first iteration. For them, this is the perfect port. For the uninitiated, however, there’s no reason not to dive into the unknown if one enjoys their kooky, off-the-wall puzzle-adventures. With added spirit(s).

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective reconfirms itself as a gripping detective story, characterised by unique ideas and mechanics and populated by razor-sharp situations that will keep your attention until the end credits. After that you are unlikely to replay it, not least because of its linear structure, but while it lasts it remains a highly recommended experience, today as in 2010.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective isn't looking to overhaul what made the original version so memorable. It offers sleeker HD visuals and rearranged music while retaining the same great music, writing and characters. Some of the newer features feel superfluous, but the game's core is still strong.

For fans of puzzle games and visual novels, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is a bit of a treat. It’s a stylish and humorous affair that’s a pleasure to look at and has a fun soundtrack. Only the odd frustration is likely to sully your impression of it, as having to watch the same scenes play out multiple times until you strike it gold with the solution can get a bit tiresome. But overall, these moments are far outweighed by the many bouts of joy you feel as you overcome challenges and unfold the game’s engaging tale.

This game puts a spin on the adventure genre and brings it out of the shadows. It's a clever game with unique puzzles and a noir story that unfortunately retains some issues from the original version. In some sections it has new features, but they were too limited.

Updated visuals and an orchestrated soundtrack (with an option to switch to the original), An art gallery that unlocks as you progress through the game, and a good story with likeable characters. It is well worth it!
Only cons I would say are having no physical release outside of Japan, and not having an optional 16:9 mode like the Onimusha remaster. But I think it was kept in 4:3 only for narrative reasons. Also the framerate is inconsistant with no way to change it on the Switch version.

This is so an amazing game. It's so sad. It has been stuck on the DS for so long, but I'm so happy we can now play it on our new systems.

The story is one Hill of a rush you just go through so many emotions and fist and turns into story but the characters are so likeable that you are just sitting at the edge of your seat.

I love the art style so much. It's so stylish, and it's so good puting characters on show just by looking at them.

The puzzles are really fun and good and the way you have to think about time and place is the best part of it and just the event of ways to get the s*** done.

One of the best puzzle games with one of the most lovable set of characters, it is truly amazing, please play it.

Fantastic aesthetic which looks exceptionally good in HD. Animations look even smoother thanks to the higher frame rate. Rearranged soundtrack is sharp while maintaining the spirit of the classic. Strong narrative with well-written characters. Possession and puzzle mechanics still feel very solid, even after all these years.

    Bad-
Some puzzles can still be frustrating in their trial-and-error, especially when you need to rewind to previous save points (which disrupts the otherwise great pacing). Not much replay value after finishing the story. Additional features like Challenges and Ghost Puzzles don't add much.

    Thoughts-
Even with its nags and quirks, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is a great experience. The narrative is genuinely enthralling, deftly mixing tension and levity, and the characters are a blast. The gameplay is intriguing, with some fun mechanics, even if the experimentation factor is limited. The revamped visuals and rearranged soundtrack help bring it alive, adding even more to an already charming experience.

It’s still the same game, and I can’t help but want a sequel that further builds on these mechanics and explores them in brand-new ways (perhaps on a larger scale). However, for now, Ghost Trick is worth checking out, whether you’re a new player or a fan of the original.
