MEET YOUR MAKER - Lilith has returned to Santuary, summoned by a dark ritual after eons in exile. Her return ushers in a new era of misery and darkness.

    LEGIONS OF CREATION
An old legend has it that Sanctuary was created by the union of an Angel and a Demon, and that their descendants --- humanity --- built villages, then cities and empires, spreading across the land to form the world's cultures and civilization.

Chaos threatens to consume Sanctuary as evil and impeity continue to spread. Depraved demons and corrupted wildlife roam the land unchecked, as terrified townsfolk huddle in dark corners trying to survive one more day.

    CULT OF PERSONALITY
The pious plead for guidance from their faith, but doubts have them feeling that their devotion is misplaced. Lilith's return has spawned a new wave of cultists and worshippers, but regardless of dogma, all prayers remain unanswered.

    DAUGHTER OF HATRED
The daughter of Mephisto awakens burning urges in the hearts of those around her, be it demon, human or beast. Profound fears, unchecked rage, repressed impulses, sinful desires --- all are brought forth violently and irresistibly by her mere presence.

    UNSTOPPABLE EVIL
As darkness returns to sanctuary, a brave few dare to face this threat. But what fate awaits them in a land forsaken by hope, valor, wisdom, and justice?

Diablo 4 is a mighty sequel, but it can feel more like a grand buffet of tasty demon-slaying treats. It offers something for everyone but misses out on that acquired yet curated taste of the older entries…This doesn't take away from Diablo 4 representing the next evolution in the series. It is a stellar sequel – and one that works hard to appeal to every fan of this beloved franchise.

With Diablo 4, Blizzard has created a genre masterpiece that does almost everything right.

Diablo IV is tremendously addictive, its combat is formidable and the character building is excellent. More MMO than ever in a new path for the saga.

Diablo 4 is a time portal - you start playing it and lose an evening in a heartbeat, with a gorgeous gothic world to explore and a range of classes to experiment with, making for a compelling package.

Diablo 4 is not a revolution as its predecessors were. But Blizzard delivers with it a more than successful formula of its saga which today constitutes the best way to discover it.

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

This is a review from a long time fan of the series. I don't have a log of the hours that I spent on Diablo 2, but given that I played itThis is a review from a long time fan of the series. I don't have a log of the hours that I spent on Diablo 2, but given that I played it consistently for five years, and then on and off for the following fifteen years, I'm willing to bet its well over a thousand hours. Similarly, I invested hundreds upon hundreds of hours into Diablo 3 across multiple platforms. In addition to those, I messed around with several of the Diablo clones over the years - Path of Exile, Torchlight, Titan Quest, among many others. Needless to say, I was beyond excited for Diablo 4. I purchased it on PC and on PS5 to do couch coop with my wife.

I am a Diablo 2 purist, no matter what the series does, I think that is a timeless formula, so I am always a little rough to accept change in the series, even if it takes it in the right direction. Diablo 4 really takes the series to new heights while keeping the same core dungeon crawling, loot hunting, monster slaying concepts. The open world feels very appropriate for the Diablo series without steering off into other MMORPG territories. It keeps the same spirit of the series but it makes the world feel so much more alive. It is difficult to put into words but it is something that you absolutely have to experience for yourself. The world itself is static which is completely new for the series, but all of the dungeons are procedurally generated like you would expect, and it executes it very well. Blizzard made everything feel much deeper than ever before, and they executed it perfectly. I feel almost as if Diablo 3 tried to add this layer of depth, but they needed to test their foundation over a decade to make it work this fluidly. I also like the connectivity with other players - you'll find them in town, you'll randomly come across other players doing an event that you'll link up with for 5 minutes and head your separate ways. It's very nonintrusive and totally adds to the experience.

The character skills development, and overall depth to the gameplay is all there - the more you play, the more you realize how complex the character building really is. Once you think you have it under control, it just adds more and more depth and complexity to it. Its the most fleshed out Diablo experience without a doubt. The great part about it is that you can play it how you wish. The complexity is there if you really want to get sweaty with the game, but there is so much content that even casual players can fully immerse themselves with as much as they feel comfortable with. I really enjoyed playing this with my wife because she largely does not play any videogames, but I managed to hook her with Diablo 3 many years ago. Its complex enough for me to be able to really get into the stats and builds, but straight forward enough where she can create and customize her character on a far more casual level, yet we can play on the same couch and love it the same.

The graphics are fantastic, although sometimes the textures look a little too shiny and wet, and some of the character models in the cutscenes look like clay and a bit out of place, but overall the graphics are fantastic. The music is amazing and very well composed, or perfectly ambient. The story overall is excellent for a Diablo game, but the world building and lore is where its at. There is a ton to dig into if you are wanting to learn more about the world of Diablo, something that the series was always lacking. Most importantly, the world has that gothic art style that was present in Diablo 2, and not the oddly colorful art style of Diablo 3.

They also greatly improved the couch coop for this game. You can each manage menus at the same time, which I cannot express how big of a game changer this.

Overall, nobody does ARPGs better than Diablo. Nobody. This feels like all of the growth that Diablo 3 experienced and all of their trials and errors are fully realized into this game. I'm still a Diablo 2 purist, they did everything perfect with that game. But if I want to play Diablo 2, I'll play Diablo 2. This was an absolutely necessary step for the franchise and it makes the growing period from Diablo 3 completely worth it.

At start I would give it 10/10 because of the hype and "freshness" and I think that every 10/10 score here is from a fresh casual player which didn't experience the whole game yet.

Review bombing is absolutely justified. The "critics" reviews seems fake at this point or they just didn't experience the whole game

Diablo 4 at this state is a very strong base for an excellent, time-consuming and addictive game but right now is just a time filler, you can play, you will enjoy it but it's just pointless.

It reminds me of Fallout 76 premiere, the game was bad but they did improve it tremendously.
I hope that Diablo 4 won't be different and they will improve things in the first season.

Post-Season 1 update: It's somehow become even slower and more tedious. Please avoid this at all costs.

I found myself being angry at waiting for NPCs to stop talking more than I was enjoying the kill things -> loot -> kill more things gameplay loop. It's not a bad game by any means, but feels more like a Diablo 2 reskin of World of Warcraft than anything.

If you haven't played a Diablo game before and want D4 to be your first experience, I would HIGHLY suggest playing D3 instead. It's cheaper and way more fun. Plus? No forced online and microtransactions that way.

In nearly 30 years since Diablo was introduced it seems Blizzard hasn't learned what's good from previous Diablo games and what's bad. I don'tIn nearly 30 years since Diablo was introduced it seems Blizzard hasn't learned what's good from previous Diablo games and what's bad. I don't believe I could have hand selected worse or more unfun features. (1) None of the quality of life things from D3 exist. (2) There's 0 end game. (3) You won't be able to just try out new fun builds, because switching takes hours of gold saving monotonous clicking paragon points. (4) There's too many useless secondary stats so 99.9999% of gear that drops is useless. It's very common to hear people not updating a single piece of gear from levels 75-90 because upgrades are so rare. (5) Dev teams provided so little content for the game they are nerfing XP to try and slow the game down to make it artificially last longer. (6) Constant nerfs, not just to damage but things like cool down reduction make the game feel more turn-based than "action" rpg, you'll spend time standing around waiting for cooldowns in-between packs. (7) Nightmare dungeons are so poorly designed you often spend time backtracking in them because of poor layout. (8) Uniques required for certain builds (not Uber uniques) have been know to just not drop at all for the entire level experience from 1-100. You may see a specific druid build you want to try but never in month of leveling from 1-100 ever see that item needed for that build. (9) Rerolling stats on gear is prohibitively costly so even a piece of near perfect gear with 1 bad stat often has to be thrown away. (10) Tomorrow's fireside chat that Blizzard has announced after the immediate backlash to S1 patch will 100% be them just telling players that players are and devs are right and devs know what's best, when it's clear none of them have played the game past level 25.

For these 10 reasons do not play Diablo 4, and do not pre-order any Blizzard game ever again.

The Live Action Service model and pointless cosmetics store like Call of Duty is what is RUINING the game industry. I refuse to play an online-only game any more after this. I refuse to play a game that requires a new patch to play what I purchased. I refuse to play a game that requires extra account log-in or registration ON TOP os PS5 Playstation account I AM ALREADY LOGGED IN AS. I refuse to verify anything with SMS.

This version of Diablo 4 and the developers immature, mediocre ideas and uneducated weak creativity, carried by in store purchases and constant patches to fix their mistake,s and impatience to publish unfinished projects; all this; has caused me to forever boycott any future games by these publishers.
