Resident Evil Requiem is one of the best, if not the best, Resident Evil games I’ve ever played. And I mean ever. The controls, the level(s) of difficulty, the characters, and the story are all immersive. The only thing I wanted to put down are those zombies. Capcom has done it again.

Rather than trying to do something entirely new, the ninth mainline installment in the saga, Resident Evil Requiem, finds a way to perfectly mesh all of the best aspects of the series so far. The result doesn't just make Requiem one of the greatest Resident Evil games yet, but it stands as a perfect celebration of the franchise for its 30th anniversary.

Resident Evil Requiem blends the best elements of survival horror and action. With stunningly detailed environments, realistic lighting and a gripping story, the game makes for one of the most immersive entries the series has to offer. Some traditional features are absent, but it remains a standout entry.

Twelve hours with Leon and Grace were a hellishly satisfying experience, from the very first moments of gameplay to the thrilling finale. Resident Evil Requiem is one of the strongest modern entries in the series - technically polished, full of genuine emotion, and impressively varied in its gameplay ideas. The only major complaint is the game’s length - with such diverse mechanics on display, you can’t help but wish there was more, just to see it fully spread its wings.

The most entertaining new Resident Evil game in over two decades, with fantastic combat, amazing graphics, effective scares, and the most enjoyably bad one-liners in the business.

With Requiem, the grand finale is complete: Capcom unites all fans of its saga in a bloody communion, whether they prefer first-person horror or over-the-shoulder action. Capitalizing on fan service, this Resident Evil resurrects the dead as much as memories, but could it have been otherwise with Leon confronted by his eternal demons? Admittedly, Requiem rehashes old ideas, but it brilliantly succeeds in its gamble of delivering two games in one, even if the story is once again a flimsy excuse for all sorts of extravagances. Beautiful, generous, well-paced, comprehensive, and designed to satisfy longtime fans, Resident Evil Requiem is devoured like a rich, over-the-top compilation with extra ketchup.

Heavy on nostalgia and fan service with the occasional violent delight thrown in, Requiem is a mostly fun Resident Evil title that still feels like a step down from its predecessor.
