This remake features two campaigns that cover the events of Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising! Fight alongside capable Commanding Officers. Defend your land with the help of Andy, Max, Sami, and other Commanding Officers, each with their own specialties and CO Powers. Andy can repair units, while Sami can boost the abilities of troops. Your opponents can use CO abilities of their own too! Throughout both campaigns, the COs you meet play a critical role both on the battlefield and in the story.

    When you aren’t busy keeping the peace in one of the two campaign stories, flex your army-commanding chops in Versus Mode**. Up to four players can battle on dozens of maps. Each player chooses a CO from either campaign and can strategically use their CO Powers to turn the tides of battle. Customize your combat with options like funds per allied base and fog of war.

    The gameplay is extremely varied thanks to the objectives in each battle, the solutions to the battles are always numerous and resemble more of a tactical puzzle. Even if you dislike the anime stylization of the story, the characters, or the general sauce around them, both games are excellent tactical strategies in the style of Battle Isle, and indeed the original Wars series from which Advance Wars sprang.     WayForward’s efforts should be commended though, and there’s much to celebrate here – not least the fact that Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp exists in the first place. I have really missed this series, and to see it back in such an emboldened way is heartening. It’s as addictive and tense an experience as it ever was, packed with punchy strategic brilliance and reimagined for a whole new generation to conquer. Now, I just hope that there’s enough interest out there that Nintendo considers greenlighting Advance Wars: Dual Strike and Advance Wars: Days of Ruin to receive the same treatment… but, let’s be grateful for what we do have for now.

    Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp was developed with much love. The visual presentation is excellent, not to mention how the game mechanics were adjusted so that more people can enjoy one of the funniest strategy series in video games. This is a game that every Nintendo Switch owner should try sometime, mainly since it preserves two titles that are very difficult to play today.

    Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp offers two excellent strategy titles which will keep players busy for a ton of hours. Whether you’re an old fan happy to be back in command or someone enlisting for the first time, there’s a lot to recommend here. A bit more work updating things, particularly the balance of the latter half of the first game and the multiplayer experience, would have been welcome but that shouldn’t stop those wanting an excellent strategy experience from picking this one up.

    Re-Boot Camp rescues Advance Wars' brilliant gameplay formula from a 15-year hiatus, but does so without ever displaying any amount of ambition. Its lackluster online multiplayer offering is emblematic of a re-release that shines on purely through the ingenuity of the original's gameplay loop.

    A perfect way(forward) to rediscover this beloved franchise that makes wars a damn thing in the early 00's. This reboot give us a clean view with lovely animations and true spirit of the original games. The game have both campaigns that can be done in Expert and many hours is needed for a true completionist on them and on HQ or Online Party with ours COs. With a huge revivial like this one, now it's legit to ask for a new 'conflict' for our beloved commanders and troups. Thank you Nintendo and WayForward for this long await game!… Expand

    Remake of one of my favorite video games of all time. Not much new, but perfection doesn’t need improvement. Give us Advance Wars 3, Nintendo.
