The love for Advance Wars oozes from this remake. The adjustments are subtle but tasteful and the new designs of the COs and units are among the best in the series. In terms of content, this package is worth the full price.

Although we are dealing with markedly complicated games and with a significant challenge, the truth is that their good work at the tutorial level makes them extremely easy to take. Just keep in mind that you will have to go through a learning process, which does not mean that you will not enjoy the experience from the first moment. It seems to me that regardless of whether you are a veteran of the franchise with many hours on the battlefield, or on the contrary, strategy games are not so much your thing, these new versions of Advance Wars 1 and 2 should be in your radar, really, are fun and pure adrenaline.

And we also miss Dual Strike, to have the whole trilogy in one place. But Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a great addition to the Switch line-up and a great experience for players new and old.

Whether you are looking for a strategic hit and run that introduces you to the genre or one that is only apparently soft but capable of making you sweat a lot, here you will find lots of content and gameplay as punctual as a Swiss watch, which makes the balance and the plurality of approaches some of its cornerstones. We weren't particularly impressed by the new art direction and we would have liked to have access to the two episodes of the series released on Nintendo DS as well, but these are small details in a picture that has left us very satisfied. Now, to what saint do we have to devote ourselves to have a remake of F-Zero?

A juicy collection, full of content that aims to introduce an entirely new audience to the series, while it manages to bring back memories to old players in the best way possible. Lack of content that would have been meaningful to the older player is a drawback, but not enough to deprive players of a fantastic collection of games that can offer hours and hours of gameplay.

As long as you don’t mind the occasional difficulty spike, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a worthy addition to your game library.

The various unit types in Advance Wars perfectly blend with resource management, offering engaging gameplay that, staying true to its roots, is best enjoyed in handheld mode and in short sessions. It's a successful adaptation of two classic games, albeit somewhat simplistic.

Re-Boot Camp is a loving recreation of a pair of games that fans of the series have been wanting to return to for years. It’s extremely good at what it does, and with added features like multiplayer and a map creator, you can even go head-to-head with friends in a streamlined battle of wits.

Longtime fans who want to relive the original experiences will be less thrilled, given that the work gone in these remakes feels less ambitious than it should, with its lacklustre visual performance and changes to the art style, while new players won't be very pleased at the relative lack of options that could bring the game up to modern standards of turn-based strategy games. Nonetheless, the very fun gameplay mechanics remain firmly in place, and they are as good as ever, which is a very good point in favour of Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp.

Advance Wars 1+2: ReBoot Camp is a great game for newcomers to the turn-based strategy genre. Bringing this IP back means revaluating a hidden gem, but the additions aren't enough to make this new version a definitive edition of such classic games.

Aside from the audiovisual presentation, the Advance Wars remake plays it considerably safe. That isn't a bad thing in itself, particularly since the foundations of the game mostly hold up. There is still plenty of fun to be had here. But it also means that this package is less interesting than it could have been.

While the various COs and their animations are exceptional, accompanied with welcomed voice acting, the 3D artwork for the environments, troops and vehicles clashes with the 2D drawings. Bare bones online modes don't offer quite enough opportunity for replayability, but the package still stands tall with a map editor and missions with additional maps.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is the return of one of those sagas that Nintendo had forgotten, despite the affection it arouses in its fans. The return may not be perfect, but it's worked hard enough to turn this reboot into a remarkable title that every fan of the genre will enjoy and that also works as an excellent entry point.

With the gameplay mechanics largely untouched 22 years after the release of the original however, Advance Wars feels rusty and basic compared to more modern strategy games on the Nintendo Switch.

While the first title certainly shows its age in the latter stages, the moments of magic that earned Advance Wars a passionate fan base are still there. If turn-based tactical combat is your thing, there is plenty to sink your teeth into here.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a must-play for casual onlookers, and veterans of the series will probably get a kick out of replaying these two classics. It's just a shame that the online multiplayer is half-baked; this franchise certainly deserves better.
