Exosuits are grouped into different roles, and players will pilot these exosuits to hold firm against overwhelming dinosaur swarms in online-only, team-based action game modes. Dino Survival, the main game mode, sees two teams of five players compete in a variety of PvE and PvP missions. Players will be transported to the scene of the latest dinosaur outbreak and follow Leviathan's guidance to complete objectives. The team that completes the mission first will emerge victorious.

Whether players are engaging the other team directly, or fighting alongside them against a common enemy, the aim is to accomplish objectives as quickly as possible. Missions vary depending on player skill and other factors, meaning no two matches will unfold the same way.

Take out your trusty armored umbrellas because the forecast is cloudy with the chance of...dinosaurs?! To elaborate, this is a short abstract of the absurdly sounding Exoprimal. A multiplayer PvE/PvP title with not only handful of innovative game design instances and captivating story that requires activation of the gray brain matter, but also thousands of angry reptiles, who are more than ready to eat off your limbs and head. With time traveling, mischievous AI and many real-world parallels, this is truly a blast from the past! (pun intended)

There are some balancing issues between the classes, and going forward Capcom will need to provide more diverse content and game modes. I can understand the initial barrier of content-gating turning off a lot of people, but it’s clear that this ties directly into Capcom’s overall vision. If you can stick out those first few hours, though, you’ll find one of the most enrapturing experiences of the year.

Exoprimal is quite fun and shows much potential to be something more. However, the fact that it only has one game mode currently makes it quickly fall into repetitiveness.

Held up by its superb class system and the intrinsic elation that comes with melting prehistoric lizards with a railgun, Exoprimal is unfortunately let down by a lacklustre story offering, anemic number of modes and a question over its longevity. While those drawbacks will put some people off, those fond of firing a grenade right up a Stegosaurus’ hide will be laughing long into their dozens of hours of playtime.

Exoprimal has a good foundation, but the lack of content and its progression system make it fall behind its competitors. It is, though, a very original experience, so hopefully it can improve over time.

Exoprimal’s dreadful narrative and foundational mishaps drain the life out of the fun to be had, leading to one of Capcom’s roughest outings in recent years.

Exoprimal is a prehistoric relic of its own making, and a harsh but necessary lesson for a developer who has been sitting atop the pile for far too long. Future seasons could salvage the flashes of excellence on display here, but I doubt players will stick around long enough for that to become a reality. And to think we could have had a new Dino Crisis instead.

    Mindless Dinosaur killing maybe?
The story is just ok but for some reason I find myself wanting to play more. The thrill of seeing thousands of dinosaurs falling down from the sky. It's a seriously fun time. However I wonder if Exoprimal will have anything to keep a player for the long haul. What happens once everything is maxed? What incentive do I have to want to play more? That is yet to be seen but currently Exoprimal is my biggest surprise game of the year. A sleeper for sure!

Each suit plays differently and team composition matters. It's like Overwatch but with a PVE making up 80% of the game and PVP making up the other 20% of the modes you play. It has 10 player raids, 5v5 PVEVP race to finish the objectives first modes, and then PVEVP modes where each team plays against each other with the ability to kill one another directly as they race to finish their objectives. Modes for the direct PVP sections are Deliver the payload, smash pillars with your teams hammer, and collect data points. The PVP sections are my personal favorites and actually require some good team composition to win. So far I'm about 35 games in and I'm having tons of fun.

The games low points are no load outs (you can create builds for each suit and having to customize that before you go into a match and not be able to switch to a different build mid game when you can switch suits is a bummer). You can't skip in match cutscenes. The story unfolds across static screens with Voice over for 80% of it with a cutscene once in awhile.
