I really wanted to like The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. I genuinely wanted to enjoy a unique take on a game set in the Lord of the Rings universe. Sadly, Gollum misses the mark. While the story is actually interesting, the gameplay, bugs and mechanics make it a painful slog.

En Garde! Reminds me of classic hack-and-slash games but with the charm of Monkey Island and plenty of modern refinements. It’s genuinely funny, genuinely enjoyable, and full of charm. You will smile and cheer as you dance around the room, duelling with waves upon waves of dim-witted guards. While there is variety in the foes you face, the game only has four chapters, and you will have reached the end in around 4 hours. It’s a shame, but I think it works for fear of ‘too much of the same thing’ if it goes on longer.

I’d love to write more about V-Hunter Puzzler DX but the game itself is very short and outside of an additional ‘hard’ mode that gives you a timer to make each of your moves, the game itself is somewhat simple. Not to say that its bad or anything, to my mind, the things V-Hunter is looking to achieve, it does perfectly, I only wish that there were more things in the game.

This is a generic space adventure with very basic features that may capture some while others struggle to get past the intro. With a few minor performance issues and some questionable design decisions, this is a simple game that is okay to pass the time with. Personally, I wish the characters had a bit more depth to them or even stepped outside of the stereotypical roles that they fill but the gameplay is okay enough to make up for that. For those who enjoy games like XCOM, I think you have a pur-fictly okay time with Mitzi and the crew.

Final Fantasy XVI is an absolute triumph. One of the best modern-day action RPGs out there if you can stand the Final Fantasy-ness of it. For newcomers to the franchise, it’s best to start either here or with Final Fantasy VII Remake then go back if you like what you see. Fans of traditional games may not like the departure from the traditional style but there’s still a lot here to like in my opinion. My final (fantasy) comment is that Torgal is the best boy, and you can pet him as often as you like!

Brutal, exciting and slightly unsettling, the second jaunt into Blasphemous' idiosyncratic world has tightened up the gameplay. The platforming is improved and the combat is fast and frantic. The Knights of the Cross is a pretty but ultimately shallow card based battler. If all you’re after is a fairly mindless little tactical card battler/rougelike then this does the job, but there are other games in this genre that do it better, and if you come here looking for classic Three Kingdoms stories, there are others that do that better too. When the music gets going and you blast forward into the enemy lines, it’s exciting. Fun, even. To me, though, it just boiled down to locking on and spamming the trigger until everything died. It came alive most in the one-on-one fights. The final boss fight was the most exciting, as it used all ranges – even melee. Then it was done and the game was over. I felt like I was finally getting it and it was gone. What it left me with was a profound feeling that there’s an interesting core buried somewhere in Nimbus INFINITY. It’s just a shame it’s dragged down by everything else, leaving it simply sub-par.

Deck based games have been growing in popularity over time and the Indie scene has done a wonderful job of helping the genre gain traction. The ability to play both online and in local multiplayer is something I would love to see in more games moving forward. The most unfortunate thing here has to be the difficulty found in Yomi 2 since this could be detrimental to a new players experience. I was unable to find a difficulty slider but I believe this would be beneficial for the story mode. This would be a nice way to experience the game whiteout having to deal with the consistent failure that is to be found here. While it was a fun experience and one I’m glad I had, it is hard to recommend for those who would like a casual experience.

I think my main takeaway from Deathwish Enforcers is that arcade games are not meant for me, it is a rare beast that comes along that tags my interest as I just don’t have the nostalgia to help me look beyond what I see as glaring design issues but are rather just features of games of that era. So it’s hard to criticise Deathwish for these design choices when that’s exactly the point they were going for. As I’m sure you can tell, auto-battlers never really appealed to me beyond the absurd likes of TABS or the ramping insanity of Vampire Survivors. Problem being, all of those games have things you can do in them. In TABS, you can take control of any individual unit and feel as though you’re in this absurd fight you’ve engaged, and in Vampire Survivors, you still have to move and make snap decisions even though all of your attacks are automatic. The switch port of the game ran fine with no performance issues in both handheld and docked mode. While the visuals were a little blurry in the handheld mode, playing docked made things look a little sharper but did not solve the issue of the game being too dark. Stranded: Alien Dawn is a fantastic survival simulation title. This deep and rewarding experience will impress fans of the genre. Furthermore, if you love Rimworld, you'll adore this brutal time sink. However, a tough learning curve and long tutorial may put some gamers off.

Amanda the Adventurer is a delightfully creepy homage to an era of childhood innocence tinged with nostalgia. Its unique blend of children’s cartoon aesthetics, intricate puzzles, and interactive horror makes it a memorable experience that will surely haunt you long after the credits roll. Despite its brief length, it’s a nice experience that is worth embarking on, especially for fans of psychological horror or puzzles.

I can’t really recommend buying this. My only hope is that the largely middling reviews for this game don’t discourage other developers from making original Lego games when there’s so much potential there. How else am I to get my King Baldwin IV vs. Salah-al-Din Jerusalem siege Lego game?

Teslagrad 2 is an excellent Metroidvania title with a physics-based twist. Moreover, there are some interesting puzzles and an interesting world to explore. However, it isn't long enough and this will disappoint some people.

All in all, Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord is a solid TRPG with some peaks and troughs to its gameplay. I do feel as though those who have played the original title will get more out of this, so if Fairy Fencer sounds like your bag, I’d probably investigate the remaster; Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force before trying out Refrain Chord.

REPLIKATOR is a tough top-down shooter. What's more, it has rogue-like elements and a roster of harsh and cruel monsters. However, it is this tough gameplay that makes it rewarding and moreish. Yet, the brutality will put off many casual gamers.

A chaotic explosion of broken glass and laser beams. Slayers X's guns feel great to use and it has a chaotic 90/00s feel to it. A few of the genre's persistent issues are stuck to its shoe but, on the whole, it's good fun to play.

Afterimage is a phenomenal non-linear adventure title. With an incredible story, amazing aesthetics, and slick combat, this shouldn't be missed. My only complaint is that the large world can be overwhelming.

Demon Skin is a grim and gritty side-scrolling adventure title. With slick combat and tough encounters, this old-school experience has a modern edge. Though it is a bit of a slow burner, I recommend fighting through the pain.

God of Rock is an enjoyable rhythm-based combat experience. With vivid graphics and incredible audio, this is a treat for your eyes and ears. Moreover, the challenging gameplay will test your dexterity and concentration. However, a weak player base and a lack of depth hold it back from reaching its full potential.

Aquarist is a niche simulation title. Setting up each fish tank and creating the perfect exhibition can be relaxing. However, the repetitive nature of the gameplay and the underwhelming aesthetics let it down.

In short, its attempt to be a party game is poorly executed as it sneers at the things that make party games fun: quick games, easy to understand, no cumbersome mechanics, a well-known cast, and creative worlds. Instead, Dokapon Kingdom Connect misses the mark in my opinion on pretty much all of these, too caught up in its attempt to be an RPG.

Graveyard Keeper: Last Journey Edition is a whimsy look at the life of a graveyard keeper. With a macabre plot and even darker characters, this will amuse you and turn your stomach at the same time. You must manage your business while appeasing the locals. What's more, a few dodgy deals regarding human meat and organs won't go amiss. An excellent addition to the franchise that shouldn't be missed.

The real value here comes from the possibility that you may be someone like me, someone who had never played these games before. For us, this is a great deal. If you are into strategy games and only know Advance Wars because maybe you’d seen the box in a Gamestop in 2002, then this is a pretty easy recommend.
