    He decided to gather the bravest warriors to rescue these towns so he can get paid! In exchange, the one who collects the most shall be rewarded with the Princess' hand in marriage and the throne.

    I loved playing its predecessor back in the day and now that Dokapon Kingdom Connect is here, I'm thrilled that modern audiences can appreciate its wacky party RPG antics. Who knew that combining those genres could be this much fun?

    Dokapon Kingdom Connect is a very niche thing indeed. But it’s silly, wacky, colourful and charming. Everyone in the household can have a laugh with it, and putting aside the old school “cheating” AI, it’s mechanically sound. It’s no replacement for Boom Street/Fortune Street/Itadaki Street, but it’s not a bad substitute, and might be on high rotation on your Switch longer than you think.

    Unconventionality in gaming is gradually being devalued, replaced by overly sanitized, painfully generic efforts. But venturing through Kingdom Connect’s seven continents delivers a much-needed dose of nonconformity. Across that quest, you might even run into a hairdresser willing to change your appearance. Anyone who misses the era when cosmetics weren’t sold for actual money, is likely to have time with Dokapon’s wonderful weirdness.

    Still, it’s not the easiest game to recommend even if this is the best and easiest to play version. If you want to ruin friendships, Mario Party is the better option. Yes, there will be hurt feelings, but at least everyone will have a good time while it happens. With Dokapon Kingdom: Connect, the pacing and other elements mean it’ll feel like all four people are trudging through a mile-long pit of quicksand in many modes. There’s an audience for this niche game, for sure, but know going in that it is a lot.

    Dokapon Kingdom: Connect blends a board game with RPG elements and looks like it would be fun to play, but the pacing is so ridiculously slow that it becomes frustrating and feels bland.

    In short, its attempt to be a party game is poorly executed as it sneers at the things that make party games fun: quick games, easy to understand, no cumbersome mechanics, a well-known cast, and creative worlds. Instead, Dokapon Kingdom Connect misses the mark in my opinion on pretty much all of these, too caught up in its attempt to be an RPG.

    I would like to start by saying a few things. One, this game is a commitment. I will say that right now. Although the game offers other gameI would like to start by saying a few things. One, this game is a commitment. I will say that right now. Although the game offers other game modes to play and enjoy. The main mode and selling point of the game HEVALIY requires friends and time. in order for it to be enjoyable. I was fortunate enough to have a group of friends willing to join me and play the 100hr story we had. Two, the following review is a based on all Four of our opinions combined. Third we played on the Japanese version of the game as one of use speaks the language, and we wanted to play it as soon as possible.

    Although the start of the game is fairly slow. I feel like it gave us a fair amount of time to learn the combat and events properly. The simple Rock paper scissor style combat of Counter, Guard, M.Guard. Turned out to be a lot more stressful than it seems. The Classes were probably one of our favorite parts. Part of our gameplay was trying to get every class unlocked just so we could see what else there was in the game. The one thing I actually appreciated was every Class had its own armor. And the weapon in the game actually has a texture to it and made a visual difference. It's simple but made me want to keep certain weapons longer, purely based on its looks. Overall, it was enjoyable RPG elements all the way through till the end. The story itself took us about 40hrs with maybe 4-5hrs of grind and farming. The other 45hrs was delays caused by us constantly F**cking each other over. The fact that the game not only lets us fight each other, but also lets us steal or prank each other was too much power to give us. Constantly we were robbing each other or the stores. Only to cause minor inconveniences to each other so we could win in the end. Our progress graph by the end of the game looked damn near like 3 different heart rates on one monitor. With one of us basically flatlining most the game. Overall, the whole experience was fun and hectic. The only issue I had was because it was so long, and we chose to do this local and not over Wi-Fi. We took Basically 1-month IRL to beat the game only due to us making time to meet up. We took so long, that the USA version of the game literally came out yesterday as of this review, and I decided to buy myself that version. I hope that goes to show how fun the game is. But again, it heavily relies on you committing to beating it and having a reliable friend group.    … Expand
