    There are slight issues with combat in the early stages, but the exploration and puzzles on offer in The Last Case of Benedict Fox are very good indeed; they will keep you playing as you attempt to get to the bottom of the mystery. A challenging and involving game, the aesthetics of the whole world just add to the charm.

    The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a morbid and surreal Metroidvania experience. With tough puzzles and cruel combat, this will test the best players. Moreover, the cruel bosses will push you to your limits. What's more, it is free to play on Game Pass.

    Ultimately, our encounter with The Last Case of Benedict Fox gave us mixed feelings. On the one hand we find an interesting plot, embellished with some tasty twists and framed by an extremely fascinating setting. On the other side of the fence, however, we find an approximate technical realization and a general lack of refinement in the gameplay, defects that end up compromising the overall enjoyment of the work. The new Plot Twist project has been part of the Game Pass catalog since day one: for this reason we still feel like recommending it, at least to a certain extent, to fans of the genre who subscribe to the service. To all the others, however, despite the title being offered at a budget price, we suggest waiting for any patches that can at least solve the most obvious problems. In its properly finished form, The Last Case of Benedict Fox could in fact aspire to much higher qualitative peaks.

    We got an adventure with some interesting episodes, bad combat mechanics and annoying monsters that are superfluous for immersion in the narrative. Puzzles and atmosphere can grab your attention, but for this you have to be a big fan of the mystical things.

    Overall, we came away pretty underwhelmed with The Last Case of Benedict Fox. While there are seeds of good ideas here, the package as a whole just throws up too many hurdles for us to look past in order to seek them out.

    Thoughts-
    The story at the center of Benedict Fox is engaging and steeped in mystery. Each new discovery leads you down a twisted trail involving an occult organization and the livelihoods of the individuals’ deaths you now investigate. It’s easy to soak up the lore behind each new relic you find as everything within the world of Benedict Fox is saturated in history and the connectivity it all has to other aspects of the narrative. This is one title that I found to be more engrossing the further I went.    … Expand
