Mar 9, 2026Monster Hunter Stories returns with a significant jump in its third installment. Not only because of the more mature tone, but because of a beautiful aesthetic and a story that hooks you from beginning to end. Capcom made a strong commitment to this sequel and it shows at all times, a great JRPG, whether or not you are a fan of this spin-off.

It has refined the series' turn-based combat and monster-catching formula with new innovative ideas that kept me hooked for hours, and it has some of the best story and character writing the whole franchise has ever seen. While its reduced Monstie roster and lack of High Rank are disappointing, they should not deter you from enjoying this gem.

It's not all perfect—some areas lack balance, the side quests remain quite conventional, and the plot sometimes struggles to maintain momentum—but the essential element lies elsewhere. With this third installment, the Stories formula matures and offers a dense, demanding, and surprisingly engaging adventure, provided you're willing to play by its rules.
