The game takes place against the backdrop of Gotham City, an open-world LEGO playground full of crimes to stop, puzzles to solve, rewards to collect, and surprises to discover around every corner, down every alleyway, and on every rooftop. Players can grapple, glide, or drive through the environment, zipping from building to building with Batman’s grapple launcher, soaring over the city with the Batglider, or cruising around in style with a range of Batmobiles and Batcycles. The Batcave can also be customized to display vehicles, trophies, and collectibles, plus an assortment of wearable Batsuits based on past Batman related media.

This Bat flies when it leans into the Lego legacy and feels heavy when it seeks the shadow of the Dark Knight.

At times, the co-op isn’t quite balanced between characters, the fish jokes are starting to smell fishy, and don’t expect to drive the Batmobile like in Forza Horizon 6, but the superb game direction and ironically not depending on others' narratives makes this a far more entertaining game. It’s another step forward for next-gen Lego games, with clever additions, plenty of details for fans, and one that can be enjoyed even more as an animated film for the kids whilst adults enjoy a clever offering.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight truly deserves to be recognized as a "love letter" to Batman. TT Games has delivered an engaging adventure for the whole family, albeit one incapable of offering any serious challenge to players.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a very enjoyable open-world adventure that celebrates Batman with great care and charm, honoring iconic films while expanding the series' gameplay with new mechanics and deeper combat. Technical flaws and limited side-content hold it back slightly, but it remains an outstanding tribute for Batman fans of all ages.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is an outstanding return to the formula. Fans of the Dark Knight will be pleasantly surprised at all the suits, songs, and storylines included. If they could figure out how to cater to solo players a little more, it would be nearly perfect. As it stands this is a game you need to play if you have any affinity for Batman at all. It is just pure joy 99% of the time, and I cannot wait to collect everything it has to offer.

LEGO Batman: The Legacy of the Dark Knight therefore perfectly achieves its goal: to serve as the culmination of everything great about Batman. It refines the gameplay of the Arkham series, packs in references to the best Batman films, and ties it all together within the playful LEGO universe. The title even affords itself the luxury of being fully playable in co-op and proves incredibly generous, featuring an open world brimming with content. This makes it the most ambitious LEGO game ever released—and perhaps even the best; dare we say it! However, this standard LEGO game formula also constitutes its biggest flaw, due to levels that are far too conventional, predictable, and repetitive—especially when playing solo. If you are a Batman fan—whether you plan to tackle the adventure in co-op or gift it to a child—it’s a resounding yes. But for those awaiting a true successor to the Batman Arkham games, this serves as a fun way to pass the time, though you’d be better off waiting to see what Rocksteady has in store for the future.

The best thing about Batman is definitely its insightful, genuinely funny script. The characters crack jokes, the game is full of references to the films, and the story moves naturally forward. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a comprehensive history of Bruce Wayne's life, deeds, and companions, with a family-friendly, fun twist from TT Games.
