It all flows together like a DJ set without the tonal whiplash of a 32-bar revenge fantasy about sliding on his opps like the lot of “Iceman.” Its self-containedness is a charm, even though some of these tracks could have fared better by replacing some of the lesser tracks on the back half of “Iceman.” Still, even though it’s one of three albums he dropped in a single night, “Maid of Honour” stands as, ironically, a testament to the virtue of restraint.

The trifecta’s crown jewel, however, is Maid of Honour, which seemingly picks up where 2022’s Honestly, Nevermind left off, but with far more confidence in its execution.

It’s a maximalist riot where he doesn’t just leech off musical trends but absorbs them into the kind of insecure, heartfelt, drained, and charmingly corny Drake party songs that are in short supply these days.

You cannot deny that these records – ‘Iceman’, in particular – are some of Drake’s strongest work in a while. The trilogy doesn’t restore Drake’s invincibility, but beneath the spectacle and the streaming bait is an ageing superstar still stubbornly clinging onto his crown with both fists.

Altogether, the trio of albums amount to a complete Drake experience, for better and for worse. .... Maid of Honour will likely get the most play this summer, thanks to the house-meets-dancehall stylings of the record (“Which One,” “Amazing Shape”).

Maid of Honour is better in so far as it feels less predictable, but it’s filled with decent sounds looking for a tune to attach themselves to.

“Road Trips” and “Cheetah Print” have a fun Nina Sky bounce, and “Outside Tweaking” and “True Bestie” take cool hard-cut production turns. But if this is supposed to be his horny-devil dance-floor album, he’s still limply phoning it in about his woes with OnlyFans models.
