A great action Gundam game, penalized by instability during online matches and the lack of some modes that should have been implemented. Not only, but mostly for fans of the anime series.- The Games Machine

Touken Ranbu Warriors features a combat system which virtually would allow to complete all missions just using, in addition to the directional stick, a single button. Acting this way, however, you would miss the soul of the entire musou and its myriad of lethal and spectacular attacks performed by charismatic characters. Although the official plan is restoring the normal course of history, the real one is to unlock all the combos to try them out on the field and slaughter the poor, unfortunate enemies. Thanks to its breathtaking onslaughts at the price of a simple gameplay, fans of this kind of products will love it.- The Games Machine

Some minor balancing issues aside, Battleborn is a pretty good title: the gameplay is solid and fun, the roster of characters is rich and guarantees a lot of variety in combat, and the multiplayer modes will keep you entertained. Frantics is a fun and polished collection of minigames, made unique by its wonderful aesthetics. The gameplay is very effective in bringing out the worst and most competitive side of the players involved, so it’s perfect for a night with friends. Ruthless competition, misconduct and wicked behaviour are combined well with a game system that, while maintaining the inclusive philosophy of PlayLink, do not skimp so much action and rhythm. In the long run it may become a little bit repetitive, but until then it’s amazing.- The Games Machine

The Chant is a good third-person survival horror action adventure, which despite not innovating the formula in which you have to find all objects needed to unlock a new area and progress in the story, manages to thrill mainly thanks to the human and fragile nature of the protagonist, unintentionally thrown into a situation way bigger than her. The game knows how to engage and in a couple of occasions it also knows how to scare, with a well narrated plot full of twists. On a technical level, it does not reach excellence, but it is immersive enough to make us forget that a PS5 could have been asked for a little more.- The Games Machine

Pixel Ripped 1978 lasts less than ten hours and isn't particularly memorable to play, yet the spot-on humour, the abundance of hilarious gimmicks and the feeling of being in Sunnyvale during those pioneering years manage to pack enough of a context to make the game appealing to anyone interested in Atari's history and in the mood for a few good laughs. Madden NFL 22 is like a roller coaster”. That’s what I wrote last year in my review. 365 days after, I must repeat myself, going from NFL 22 to 23. Madden NFL 23 is a game that can be compared to a roller coaster. You go up with FieldSENSE, you go down with a problematic AI. You go up with new features in almost all game modes, you go down after experiencing bugs and glitches. There are steps forward made since the last videogame, and the direction taken by the developers is the right one, but there is still work to do to reach levels of excellence.- The Games Machine

Shadow Labyrinth is a madness with a lot to say, but much like its mouthless protagonist, it can't always communicate as it would like, finding itself at the mercy of events. A little more quality of life wouldn't have hurt (even the markers you place on the map have to be unlocked), yet somehow there's a certain perverse charm that permeates the entire experience. The reboot of the NFS series is a convincing arcade game, with an accessible yet pretty deep driving model. The PC version comes with all the additions released in the past few months (except the Photo Mode, coming soon), and it truly shines for its beauty: provided you have a decent machine, you'll enjoy the best races ever seen on 4K screens. Joy, cheerfulness and the gleeful sounds of carnage accompany us in the carefree fragfest that is every battle, but still Serious Sam 4 feels old: it's like going back to the nineties without anything having changed. In its simplicity, Serious Sam 4 is the very essence of old school shooters, condensed into a dozen hours of gameplay. It represents first person shooters as they were in the beginning, in the fabulous beauty of their original sin: a bloodthirsty naivety made of exaggerated weapons, alien bits and frenetic battles against unreal hordes of enemies.- The Games Machine

Soulstice turned out to be a good stylish action game, with a solid combat system embellished with good ideas, able to tell its excellent protagonists, Briar and Lute, both through the battle and with the cutscenes. The story of Ilden's veil torn above the sky is intriguing, with beautiful twists and a well-studied mythology, it is therefore a pity that the setting is not able to sustain this charm, despite the very good basic technique, trapped in a artistic direction that is often too generic and redundant.- The Games Machine

Exoprimal is a definitely original PvEvP, with various game modes capable of ensuring ever-changing matches, although undoubtedly the most exciting are those in which there are direct clashes with the opposing team. The story is enjoyable to follow, and it would be no problem to discover it little by little, if this did not also affect the options available during multiplayer. This way, the game does not show its full potential right away, almost as if it were a free-to-play that needs to convince us to upgrade and unlock the full product. The problem is that it is a premium game, and may not appeal to those who want everything on day one.- The Games Machine

Haters will say that nothing has changed in Just Dance 2024 Edition and that the few new features are nothing more than a remix – to stay on topic – of modes already included somewhere in the more than twenty releases of this franchise. Although this corresponds to the truth, in reality there is no way to improve an already perfect format, so one can only smooth things over and provide a better and better experience. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Battle Destiny Remastered is an adaptation that, while remaining faithful to the original title's portable origins, offers a solid and exciting gaming experience for fans of the SEED saga. Fast and fluid gameplay, coupled with decent Mobile Suit customisation and a large roster of mechs, form the beating heart of a title capable of entertaining for hours. However, the meagre and fragmented narrative, aimed almost exclusively at long-time fans, and above all a frustrating and ill-calibrated lock-on system, severely hamper the game's potential. The good level of challenge is often unfairly constrained by unfortunate design choices, which make the experience less accessible to newcomers. All in all, a flawed but charming product that will mainly satisfy those already familiar with the Gundam SEED universe.- The Games Machine

It’s not Worms. With that out of the way, let’s talk about what it actually is: an easy-to-get-into Battle Royale with fast matches, fun and quite casual as there isn’t that much to do in the way of unlocking stuff: you’ll just play, and play, play. This could be an issue in the long run: for how long will Worms Rumble be able to keep its players entertained? Milky Way Prince - The Vampire Star is unconventional, adult, bold, and aims quite high, maybe even too high for the first experiment of a one-man studio. Many elements of the plot are just sketched, so sometimes it's hard to feel involved with the two young lovers. The sections where the player choose the sense to interact with are interesting, but unfortunately followed by slow paced moments with not that much to do. We might define Encodya as a casual adventure. Although it doesn't add anything new to the genre and it’s very easy to complete, we can’t deny that Chaosmonger was brave enough to bring back to life an almost forgotten gameplay, with a good and compelling story. Somerville aims high, very high, succeeding in certain things (puzzle design, atmosphere, and scenic impact) and missing the target in others (emotional involvement, technical cleanliness, weak central part). In the end, the experience is certainly pleasant but never shocking, a short and evocative journey in the middle of an alien apocalypse with some scenes capable of remaining impressed for a long time, despite often missing that ludo-narrative amalgam to connect them. Quarantine Zone: The Last Check turns the classic zombie theme on its head by putting the player in the shoes of a health inspector at a military checkpoint. The gameplay revolves around inspecting survivors, diagnosing symptoms, and making often irrevocable moral decisions, with clear references to Papers, Please. The idea is original and the immersion works, but the structure tends to become repetitive as the hours go by. The action and base-building sections break up the routine without ever being outstanding. The experience is penalized by an overly rigid evaluation system and a technical implementation that is merely functional. A survival horror with a strong stealth component, which forces you to experience the protagonists' story in absolute silence. The gameplay mechanics are well-tested and work quite well, the tense atmosphere is felt, but some questionable design choices and situations that tend to be repetitive partially undermine the player's involvement.- The Games Machine

Behind a sapphic story, Nights of Azure hides a pretty standard hack'n'slash. Not too good, not too bad, definitely not something you'll remember over the years. Gust should've had the guts to try something bolder.- The Games Machine

Nine Parchments could be a fun game if you can wander in its levels with a couple of friends (in no more than a couple of evenings). After that, the experience gets boring and repetitive, and you'll probably search for something else to play.- The Games Machine

Gravel is welcome a return to Milestone's roots: a fun, engaging and exhilarating racing arcade, along the lines of Dirt 2 and V-Rally. The driving model is accessible but not trivial, the gameplay is challenging without being frustrating, some locations are simply unforgettable and the multiplayer has a lot of potential. Green light.- The Games Machine

Dated graphics, obsolete gaming mechanics and various technical issues are only some of the problems. There's some charm in the game, within the genre, but this is not enough to allow White Day to reach a good score.- The Games Machine

The Thin Silence is a charming narrative adventure filled with puzzles on the lines of Limbo and Inside. Tw PM was courage was courageous in dealing with issues such as depression and the socio-political issue, but the experience is sometimes a little repetitive and frustrating.- The Games Machine

Marvel's Avengers is a strange and somehow unexpected hybrid. Considered on its own, the campaign is an excellent action adventure, able to capture the spirit of Marvel characters both in battle and in everyday demeanor with an enthusiastic cinematic approach. The forced mashup with a Destiny-like multiplayer, however, does not benefit the game as a whole: online features are just weak, to the point they partially water down the singleplayer campaign. Perhaps Avengers Initiative’s time will come, but for now the game deserves to be played mainly for Kamala Khan’s story, which is joyful and inspiring.- The Games Machine

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is a first-person 3D investigative horror adventure strongly focused on exploration. Gameplay revolves around collecting clues, reading documents, and solving environmental puzzles, with the combination of scanner and sonar helping to mitigate classic pixel hunting. The absence of fast-paced combat is offset by a strong atmosphere. The integration between classic H. P. Lovecraft elements and modern technology, such as the AI assistant Key, works very well. The need to read notes and logs to progress may not appeal to action-oriented players, but this approach feels like a natural evolution of the adventure genre. And it works.- The Games Machine

This second DLC is not at all bad, expecially considering that the content is rather varied, original and challenging. There's something for everyone, for people who appreciate a good, tense story and for players who long for a speedrun. Combined together, the two Banned Footage DLC are a great addendum to an amazing horror game.- The Games Machine

Death Noodle Delivery is a fascinating project in theory but the magic ends after a couple of hours of completing the game. Few mechanics, a constant vulgarity in the script and a general feeling of having an incomplete game in your hands.- The Games Machine

Aliens, armored knights, mechs, mutants and dinosaurs with laser beams, spells and machine guns: whatever you saw or played in a videogame, just name it, and you'll probably find it in ELEX. A potpourri so weird it could have been amazing, ruined by an uninspired main quest and the usual, flawed combat system by Piranha Bytes.- The Games Machine

Technically robust but not that impressive, Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star is a decent representative of the musou genre, with sixteen characters to take care of and a lot of battles to fight. If you truly love the original material, this game could be worthy of your time; otherwise, keep in mind that Berserk and the Band of the Hawk is on its way.- The Games Machine

On one hand, Call of Cthulhu is able to drag the player into an adventure with a dark and oppressive atmosphere, in which nobody really seems to be on our side, and curiosity can turn out to be our worst enemy. On the other hand, the little care given to some aspects of the game and the implementation of certain mechanics transform this game into a missed opportunity to celebrate the works of H.P. Lovecraft.- The Games Machine

Boring, repetitive and strategically negligible, Champions of Anteria is a way too simplicistic mixture of real-time-strategy and management. The five champions are blatantly unbalanced, the core of the gameplay requires you to repeat the same identical missions until the end credits, and the only hint of variety comes from the boss battles.- The Games Machine

The combat system of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is the natural evolution of what we played on PSP: exhilarating, impressive to see and fun to play, and it reminds us of how good is Team Ninja in developing action games. All we miss out on is everything else: few interesting game modes, cosmetic-only customisation options, and a truly messy online framework. Our honest advice? Wait and see how things will evolve in the near future.- The Games Machine
