This is, genuinely, the first time I’ve ever been hooked on an online-orientated competitive game.

Full of fan service, but struggles to welcome anyone who isn't already invested in Final Fantasy. [Apr 2018, p.74]

While the battle mechanics of this team brawler are pleasantly “different” and there is an abundance of cosmetic fan service items, the actual gaming content is quite shallow. Here you feel the most that the journey of the almost 30 beloved characters started in the arcades.

The Final Fantasy crossover gimmick almost feels like a distraction in what remains a uniquely innovative, but also frustratingly flawed, fighting game.

There's still a lot of growth potential in the Dissidia franchise, with its unique 'Bravery' system and strategic qualities. However, Square Enix doesn't exactly pull out all the stops with this iteration.

Dissidia itself is worth the trouble, for the hardest of the hardcore Final Fantasy fans. For everything it does wrong, it includes plenty of fan service.
  7. 50
In Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, the characters of Final Fantasy are once again brought together in the ultimate fight between good and evil, but an overly complicated play scheme and other decisions make for a game that you fight against, not a fighting game.

Expand

Apart from itsDissidia NT is an amazing game that is filled with Final Fantasy characters that compete in a battle for supremacy. Apart from its predecessors the game trims the fat of unnecessary features that the original games had such as spamming and allowing a my character is better than your character scenario. It also allows itself to be more competitive by allowing 3v3 battles in the field that way characters won't have a disadvantage that could be created in a 1v1 scenario

    This game has
    3v3 battles
    Amazing stages
A variety of music from the original games
A variety of battle modes even more than the PSP games
Excellent and fixed mechanics that allow fair battles
Story that unfolds any way and any mode you want
    Actual boss battles
    No need for button spamming
    Allows strategy in battles
    Profile and appearance customization

This is NOT a single player focused game so they had to do much balancing here and there. The original games on PSP would not work online.

While they did a remarkable job at balancing, its kind of sad that the netcode is the only true flaw I see in this game. If one player has lags, all will have lags and thats nowadays not the best way to implement an online system.

The gameplay is great though and you can jump in and and play a few matches and stop. Also the lootbox system is extremely cool since it can only be purchased with ingame gil. No real money required.

Something that has improved greatly from the original games is that every character has a unique twist and mechanics that makes the gameplay refreshing. Bratz for instance has to master his moves during battle, which gives him buffs and stronger attacks, tidus is based on dash attacks, firion is a very strong ground fighter that can combine his combos as he likes but in the air he is very weak, Y'shtola puts out traps and debuffs enemies, zidane steals power from enemies, noctis is designed around his warp attacks, Warrior of Light is a more tanky style character with shields and super armor, Squal can trigger his gunblade during combos to greatly increase damage output and he can pull pretty strong combos by default, Sephiroth can dash cancel after a combo to quickly follow up, lightning can switch paradigms to fit the situation and onion knight can switch between ninja and priest in order to have long range or close range attacks to name a few.

They respected the original games the characters come from and have put together a pretty decent fighting game with a pretty unique system that make this game one of its kind on the market.

um, what happened here, SE? We have two story-driven cross-over games in Dissidia 1 and duodecim and outta nowhere you change it into aum, what happened here, SE? We have two story-driven cross-over games in Dissidia 1 and duodecim and outta nowhere you change it into a tag-team Super Smash Bros? for what purpose? That's a rhetorical question as we all know it's only purpose was to latch onto a well established classic. The first two Dissidia's were highly revered and for good reason. They did what classical FF games did well and are known for; narrative driven games with loads of mythological ties sprinkled everywhere and threw in a very fun action RPG battle system.
this game...this game is not that. It's a brawler/fighter and a watered down version of it's predecessors. It saddens me, truly.
If they wanted another FF fighter they could have just called it Ehrgeiz 2...and even that game had a better story mode, the deep dungeon was great (same as the one in FFT) but nuuuooooo...they wanted to latch onto one of their popular IP's. In what world were they thinking that the people who loved the first 2 as story-driven single player titles would want to all of sudden play it as a online 3v3??
if you want a FF game that brings all the characters together in a neat way and is story driven just pick up FF Record Keeper or Brave Exvius; two FREE mobile games that sadly are gacha's yet still better than this game.

graphics and music are still top notch and the battle is fairly smooth so have to give them some points for those.

Its bad just how lacking this game is compared to the first two games things id like to remind you before you buy this incomplete game. WhatIts bad just how lacking this game is compared to the first two games things id like to remind you before you buy this incomplete game. What this game is missing in its combat mechs

key note everything the past two dissdia games did was right 100% the only thing they didint have was 3v3. this game is offers is 3v3 and HD graphics everything else is a downgrade
    story,game modes,combat mechs.

all the new players who are playing dissdia dont have a clue about the PSP Dissdia if they did they would be able to point out whats been taken away from the engine.

    WHATS MISSING in the COMBAT
(We should be be allowed to do more bravery attacks and hp attacks during play since its the 3rd game in the series.
so we can mix things up and keep opponents guessing than spamming one move at them.
(Clouds meteor rain and Cross slash + Braver having these at the same time )
allow Bravery attacks to be linked with HP attacks
allow us to combo string with a follow up attack (x) after we send opponents flying
allow sent of flying opponents to dodge by tapping button at correct time and counter
    (like the psp games)
    allow us to crumple opponents
change the guard state to be changed into parry that you tap to neglect moves and reward the player for doing a successful parry.
cuz the guard state is predictable keep bashing until the guard turns red and breaks then
for the defender all he can do is sit there like a duck and block and be pushed to a far away distance for the attacker when his combos end the opponent is pushed away into the distance only to run after him repeat the same x combo again and a again. )

the engine was built from the grounds up but i get the idea that they did it so they could take things away from the games fighting engine as to why they needed to build it from scratch by leaving out what the PSP games accomplished. This like the J star victory a generic 3v3 game that u pick up and put down the next 5 hours of playing when you realise how shallow its story mode and combat mechs is.

However having picked up Final Fantasy TCG and seeing wonderful art as well as being in love with two first Dissilidias I thought "it cannot be that bad, can it?".
Oh boy I was wrong. This game, its philosopy wrecks what was good in the series. This is now only a beat-them-up game, not an action-jrpg-BEU game. Problem is the game is much more chaotic and simply less rewarding than PSP entries. I even watched some gameplay from PSP and even now that old games look more enjoyable. For instance they removed "chase" and EX-Burst Mechanic (in the form of limit). Those exciting and epic mechanics are simply gone.
Shame.... The bigger it looks so damn gorgeous.
