The story mode requires tokens called memoria to progress and to get memoria you have to play other modes (online or offline). I kind of hate this mechanic since it requires me to leave the mode I want to play to go play modes I have no interest in. Also loot boxes have been added to give characters cosmetics such as quotes or costumes and you can level up each character to learn new EX skills they can use in combat to help get an edge in battle.

The game is fun but a little tedious since I have to play other modes to advance the story only a little bit at a time.

But it’s a pretty face with no personality or depth. The game honestly feels like it’s for a niche market of E-sport players. First and foremost you ‘must’ have an online subscription to get any length of life out of the game. The only offline features are 3 very slim AI modes, which last you about 30 minutes of repetitive play. The game is almost always set to 3vs3, which is OK - if it wasn’t the ONLY way this game was designed to be played. I understand they would have to re-balance every character for different modes - as some would SUCK at 1v1, or 2v2. But limiting your player base to ONLY 3v3 is lame for a variety of reasons.
For me personally the largest offense (if you're playing offline) is you can’t control your AI teammates - who if they die can lead you to an easy defeat in your run, regardless of your own individual skill. (especially if your playing on a moderate or higher difficulty).
The story mode is nonexistante - as you have to grind currency by just ‘playing random battles’ online or offline to unlock and watch a 1 minute cinematic chapter. This is a huge waste of potential towards getting new people into the game I feel. The tutorial is kinda crappy, and I found myself having to play the same one over a few times just to make sure I was actually understanding what was happening/what I did. A story mode would have been a great way to slowly introduce new mechanics, invest players in the characters, and force you to play as new/unusual ones, and teach you their pro’s and con’s in a planned, gradual increase in difficulty.
Unfortunately none of that was done, and you just have to choose characters, and learn the hard way how they play and if you like that, and what works well against others. Summons were also limited to only 1 choice in the beginning, which no directions or guidance as to what might be an appropriate one to choose for your playstyle.
I could go on - but ultimately I was super excited for this game, and after 1 day and pretty much ready to call it quits. I’m just going to watch the Cinematic “story” movie on Youtube, and save myself 40 hours of grinding random battles.
To those who enjoy the E-sport realm, this game is probably fun, and you can get some life out of it for your money. But if you're somewhat casual, or wanted a story, or want spice/ variety in different modes, then this pretty-looking game will most likely leave you feeling disappointed. Can't recommend.

Since it has become focused on the online element, i find it more difficult to enjoy, i'm not used to the 3 v 3 combat and i never played the game online, i loved the array of characters in the original and felt that i could use any of them, however, because it is now online, i feel like i have no choice but to use a strong character so that i can have a chance of winning the game, this makes Dissidia feel restrictive and playing the 'meta' in games is rarely fun, i feel that players should be encouraged to play the character they want, because of this, i don't feel that this game is as enjoyable as the original games, however, one of the Dissidia's redeeming qualities is the combat system itself, it is a complex, high mobility, fighting game where the range of characters have abilities based on the game they're from, such as Zidane, the dexterous thief from Final Fantasy IX, is an assassin class in NT and Ultimecia, the wicked sorceress, proficient in magic, is the marksman class. The way that most online fighting games work is that once a certain character is seen to be to powerful they are 'nerfed' which essentially makes them less powerful and the characters who are rarely used because they are either weak or situational are 'buffed' so they are suited to the game, the problem this creates is that once the strong character is 'nerfed', they are often seen as not viable and doesn't help the 'meta' problem i was describing earlier.
If you loved the previous games, then prepare to be disappointed and if you are not a fan of the final fantasy series, then you probably won't be able to enjoy this game as much as the fans of the series, however this does not mean that you shouldn't give the game a chance, i have a background with games similar to the way Dissidia NT is and i did enjoy them, so when i found out i didn't instantly remove it from my PlayStation and write a god awful review, i spent a large number of hours playing it to come to this conclusion; Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is an enjoyable game, it lacks the single player experience that most players were looking for, the combat is significantly different than the original games because of the teamwork now required to play the game, the arrangements of the soundtracks from the individual games and the unlockable cosmetics, icons, etc., are a reason to continue playing the game, because of these reasons, the game deserves a 6/10.

Overall the game feels like a blander version of previous entries- with a lot of content and features being forgotten in the copy paste job that took place. This game is only worth playing because it keeps the great and unique core gameplay from the original dissidias and brings it to a home console. However it is dumbed down and only scratches the surface in comparison to those titles; it could have been so much more.

I knew it was essentially a port of the arcade game from Japan, with a story mode tacked, but not much else. After 10-ish hours, I have to say that there's plenty in this game to enjoy, and plenty to dislike.

First, gameplay-wise, it handles pretty well. Certain characters take some getting used to depending on their class. So far, Marksman takes the most getting used to. There's a definite learning curve to almost all of these characters, and I found myself struggling with a few inputs. The 3v3 combat makes everything rather chaotic, and the screen cluttered with life bars, Bravery meters, and summons, etc, doesn't help at all. Situational awareness is more or less a must for this game.

There aren't many modes to speak of. Offline, you have Gauntlet mode which is consists of six first-to-three matches, or Core Battle, which involves destroying the opponents core before they can destroy yours, and there's also Story Trials, which are basically repeats of the few combat segments that take place in the story mode- a few 3v3s and some Summon boss fights.

A lot of people have whined about the "Story Mode" being just a series of 1-5 minute cutscenes, and normally that would annoy me, but I get that it was added for the console release and wasn't even in the Japanese arcade version, so I appreciate the developers for even bothering to include it in the game at all. The only really annoying thing is that these short scenes have to be unlocked via in-game tokens, which are rewarded each time you gain a level both online AND offline(a lot of idiots giving this game 0s seem to think it's online only!). This feature is annoying, and can make the game somewhat repetitive, but since the story is not the focal point of this game and the entirety of it is definitely geared more towards playing online with people, I understand why they did this. It sucks if you're a casual gamer, but if you're willing to put in the effort to learn, it's not that hard. The story itself isn't anything spectacular, but it's always fun to watch these characters from different games interact with one another, like the bromance between Firion and Tidus and the "Who's-more-stoic" game between Lightning and Squall. In total the story runs for about 1 to 1.5 hours, but again, it's not the focal point of this game and is more or less just a bonus feature.

What little time I spent online was alright, but if one person lagged, the whole match lagged, which makes the whole thing a slog at times. Hopefully the developers fix this, especially since this is meant to be the meat of their whole game. The same modes offline can be found online and playing with actual people is much more enjoyable than playing with A.I.. Whether or not this game will find the crowd necessary to keep the online going remains to be seen.

There's also plenty to unlock in this game. At the end of every match(that you win) you're rewarded a treasure chest, and some gil. You can visit the shop to purchase, costumes, weapons, avatars, music tracks, chat responses, all of which can also be unlocked through random loot in the treasure chests. NO MICROTRANSACTIONS THANK GOD!

Overall, Dissidia NT isn't what I expected it to be, but I'm not hating it for that. There's enough here for any Final Fantasy fan to enjoy, but I can see why those who were fond of the previous Dissidia's might find this one disappointing. I still haven't tested out all the characters and there's still a couple of story sequences to unlock, but when I'm playing it, I'm generally having more fun than not. More characters are coming further down the line, and the developers are targeting a final roster of 50 characters so there will be reason to come back in the future, but only time will tell if the casual crowd comes to appreciate this game or the fans of the old are able to get past it's noticeable differences from past installments.

There is no option to 1v1 as far as Im aware which is a major problem. As thats what the series used to be based on. Its a simplified version of the previous dissidias. Though that isnt saying much as there was a butt ton to learn.

I would say pick this game up if you are more open to a MOBA or team based pvp gamer than a fighter. As canceling and special moves etc sort of play a back role of the field rather than WHEN you should execute certain moves and in conjunction to what other characters use.

Long story short: Beautiful graphics and music. Pretty complex "fighter" game. Again, though. I really dont think Fighter should be used in the description of this game. I think it leans more towards MOBA players.

The game lost it lack of story and depth and what made Dissidia, Dissidia. One of the biggest things that they took away was the established RPG elements and character customization. The original Dissidia had characters leveling and stats, equipment customization and skill customization, that could allow your characters to be the best they could. The original also had a much more overarching story, that was the focus of the game, but the focus has been shifted towards playing online games only. While the game DOES have a story, it is only able to be progressed through playing offline matches, or online matches in order to gain memoria to progress the story. On top of the RPG and Story elements that were lost, the entire battle system has virtually changed. While those familiar with the bravery and HP attack system, the bravery attacks are all preset for every character and you are only allowed to choose one HP attack per character(except Vaan, whom of which can hold two), it forces the player to choose just one attack and forced to use just that one attack, limiting the variety a player had available during a match.

Now the game isn't entirely all bad. This games does in some regards. When it comes to the graphics and music, it is a massive upgrade ( then again it was the on the original PSP and looked pretty great there too). They worked on the summoning system a lot more, which I feel is a lot more useful. They also tried to implement 3v3 battles. But it could have been implemented a lot better. Half of the time during matches, it is hard to keep track of what is happening during a battle. Another problem that springs up from 3v3 battles, it is very possible to get one character being the target of the other team. But I love how they tried to implement it, it just wasn't done right.

Overall, this game was okay. It doesn't have the Dissidia feeling, that the old ones created. The game is fun, the game is enjoyable, but at times it is tedious.

This game, in addition to following the games Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy of PSP, also aims to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Final Fantasy series.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT matches are always 3 vs 3 and the overall goal of the game is to shoot down the members of our opposing team. And to do this successfully, we have to steal our enemy's bravery points and use them to our advantage with HP attack. We also have another mode beyond Standard Match, which is called Core Battle, in which we have as mission to destroy the crystal of the opposing team and prevent our crystal from being destroyed.

At first sight, the gameplay here reminded me of J-Stars Victory Vs + but more fluid, chaotic and frantic. However, sometimes targeting is a dumb cockroach, especially in Core battles when I try to target one of the Crystals. During combat, the player can walk and attack freely around the arena, fly temporarily, and use unique abilities, as well as use the most varied EX Skills, from HP Regen to Poisonga and among others. And of course, the user can make summons (which altogether are 7), with different Summoning and Post-Summoning effects from each other and the Summons attacks take away the opponent's bravery points. An example of this is Alexander, who has as Pre-Summoning Providence (increases max HP) and has Post-Summoning the Divine Bulwark (increases max HP and defense). These summons can be obtained in chests for example. And in order to summon these monsters, we need to fill the summon meter and then hold down the command pad. It's always fun to have these monsters in battle as long as they aren't on the opposing side.

We have 14 arenas and 28 base characters, including well-known faces from the Final Fantasy franchise such as Zidane Tribal, Lighting and Sephiroth. The warriors are divided into four distinct classes: Vanguard, which have powerful bravery attacks that cover a wide area, but are slow and have limited mobility, Assassin, are fast and very mobile but their bravery attacks are weak, Marksman, bad on close combat, but they are good when used for Combat from Far and Specialist, who have unique abilities that differ from other classes.

In offline mode, we have 3 modes available, namely the Sparring match, Gautlet mode and Story mode. In the case of Gautlet Mode, is some kind of Survival mode (up to 6 battles). And in this same way, the player can choose Basic (you can choose your companions, as well as the type of match, Standard match or Core battle), Story trials or Summon Trial, that in relation to the latter two that can only be unlocked in story mode. Negative point for the Story trials of Gautlet Mode, i can't understand why they are limited to the standard matches.

Speaking in story mode, this is made up of a kind of tree with several events, cutscenes, normal battles and fights against bosses. And to progress in story mode, we need Memorials, which can be obtained for example in one of the Gautlet modes. The fights against bosses require special attention. It's good to have the right class and have the right EX Skills, and watch out for their attacks, because these opponents do a lot of work, which in my opinion is good. After finishing the story of the game isn't special and could have been much better.

Of course, we also have Online modes, from Ranked Ranked (Solo or Party) and Custom Match. But again, like the Story Trials of Gautlet mode, Ranked matches are limited to Standard matches. Classification tables? Nowhere. And it might not be a bad idea to put a cooperative online mode against the bosses of the game. And as much as in online or offline, the combats are always 3 vs 3, meaning there is no 2 vs 2 or 1 vs 1, which doesn't make much sense. It is true that the game was thought of 3 vs 3, but there could be an option in normal matches. But not all is bad in the game, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT has a great list of items (Appearances, Weapons, Chat Messages, Avatars and Battle Music Tracks) that can be buyed in the Shop or get them through the treasures.

Visually, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is a very appealing title, presented cutscenes and in-game graphics well treated. And the soundtrack of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT deserves to be highlighted as it is undoubtedly excellent. Overall, the work of Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo in this Dissidia Final Fantasy NT was not bad, but they could have done better, especially in story mode and in presenting some more combat options.

I think Dissidia NT is a pretty good fighting game but the only thing that keeps me from scoring any higher than a 7 is the boring single player story mode which is basically on giant movie that occasionally has battles. The previous games story modes had a board game that you had to play in order to advance the story which was better in my opinion than what we have now.
It would also be nice if there was a shop where we could buy equipment to further customize the characters which was also a feature in previous Dissidia games that is absent here.
Anyways I still think this is a game that had huge potential to take everyone by surprise with how unique and different it is compared to the other fighting games we have today but maybe there was too much pressure to meet a dead line or there wasn't enough passion behind it.
I really hope they realize how much potential they had here to make a truly great game, maybe if they give it one more shot with the time and care that was given to the other Dissidia games than hopefully the next Dissidia game will be the one that grabs everyones attention.
