Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes is outrageous. The game is uncompromisingly zany: full of smart design, fluid combat, and laugh out loud personality front to back. While some may be turned off by its low budget feel and disjointed design, those who can look past these rough edges will find a hack-and-slash so quirky that it’ll be tough not to fall in love. This title stands as a shining beacon of bold creativity and anyone who values risk-taking in games owes it to themself to give Travis Strikes Again a shot.

Suda Goichi pays homage to some of the best indie games with Travis Strikes Again. We found lots of pop culture references, a unique sense of humor and some unique mechanics, although some elements such as camera and jump controls are not polished, and combat becomes repetitive.

Thankfully, even if it’s a little weird and limited in some respects, Travis Strikes Again is a fun game that makes me excited for the future of the series.

Playing Travis Strikes Again is an experience I'm glad I had, even if I wouldn't recommend it as a fun game. As a biting reflection of the ridiculousness of hardcore video game fans it's less successful than previous games, and its smaller scale makes the still-repetitive fighting even more dull. But the weirdness remains, and the Kafkaesque story of the Death Drive console paired with Suda51's signature takes on Japanese and American culture — plus the frequently enjoyable mish-mash of retro aesthetics — makes for a satisfyingly eccentric game unlike many others.

Travis is back, but it tries to stretch out its low budget too much and ends up becoming quite simplistic and repetitive. It’s great for NMH and Suda51 fans, but it would’ve been nice having a shorter game with deeper and more diverse gameplay.

If you’re willing to play a decent brawler that’s regularly interrupted by junky D-grade platforming to get to the madness, you’ll get a lot out of it. If you’re looking for a gameplay tour-de-force instead of a weird trip, you should probably look elsewhere.

The disappointment is up to the punk, idiotic and meta fun that the first two No More Heroes provided. Admiring the independent scene that has revolutionized the video game in recent years, Suda51 gives the impression of having missed the hype train with this new, painful game.

Not once was I expecting a No More Heros 3, or anything of that nature.i looked at reviews, and did my research prior to purchasing the game. As for the comment stating that Suda blackmailed anyone into buying this is absolute trash.

Welcome to the real world where a dev team of less than 100 need to see the demand so they can then decide if they want to supply.

With that being said this is a nice side story to accompany the NMH canon. The gameplay feels like a traditional NMH game, but the style used to approach the game is different. I dont think anyone who hasn't played no more heroes will be as inclined to press on through the game, or be as pleased with the games end results. I feel that it was made for those who love NMH and were needing something to fill the void. On sale this game is well worth the purchase, especially now with the announcement of NMH 3.

Disclaimer: Almost everything about this game is surrounded by misinformation or just a total lack of understanding of what this game wasDisclaimer: Almost everything about this game is surrounded by misinformation or just a total lack of understanding of what this game was meant to be when it was presented. This review is divided in two parts: The first being an analysis of the game itself and the second a response to the misinformed people, who spreaded that misinformation, if you are only interested on the latter, feel free to skip to that part. Also, this is a total spoiler-free review.

    FIRST PART:
This game is a narrative experience, wich serves as a bridge between the first two entries and NMH3, in fact, this game delivers the most personal and beautiful story in the whole the franchise so far, this game delivers the principal game: Travis Strikes Again, with the gameplay area being in a 4:3 aspect ratio, and the rest of it being the interface, I understand some people don't like it, but I actually like it, and I take it for what it is: a deliberate creative decision to make reference to old games, but at the same time leveraging the ''lost'' space. Tha core gameplay is in fact pretty smooth, it can turn repetitive if you play several consecutive hours, but the power ups and pasive habilities give an interesting depth and variety to the combat. TSA is perfeclty playable and fun in solo, but it's obviously meant to be a co-op experience and the bosses probablly have the best desings in the whole series, in terms of being interesting characters, some are on a par with the ones in the first game, same goes to Bad Man, the co protagonist on this entry (and second player). who climbed quickly to gain a place in the fan's hearts. The other half of the game is called Travis Strikes Back, a visual novel-like story, and hear me out, this game have a lot of text, just like most of Suda's previous work, and I can see that being a problem for some of you, wich is totally respectable, but believe me, Suda is a GREAT writter. This game contains a ton of references not only to games in general, but also Suda's previous works in particular, so it can be confusing sometimes if you didn't played his previous games. Taking all this in count, TSA is a fun, deep and personal experience, but my advice is to get into Suda's previous work to fully understand not only the references, but his writting philosophy and themes.

    PART TWO:
Oh jeez, well, hee we go.
When this game was announced, Suda's translator did some weird translation, not making too clear what the game was about. What was clear was Suda needed this game to perform decently in sales to make No More Heroes 3- and that's it. THAT. IS. THE. ''BLACKMAIL'', dude needed the game to sell to make the next part, last time I checked that's how most of the audiovisual market works, it's not like he tried to people buy a bad game. TSA is a GREAT game, with everything that made NMH good in first place, only superficial people who couldn't read the subtext of the first game thinks of this game as some sort of scam, because it is not only a good spin off, but a good game overall and is extremely important in the franchise's lore and character development, but as there are people thinking NMH was all about some sort of violence glorification, they managed to deflect their baby rage's to the game, another misconception was that this was sort of a minigame compilation, wich is also misinformation, but this time by the media, who repeatedly took a single inteview with Suda51 in wich he mentioned minigames in TSA, referencing a twist in the mechanics depending of what Death Drive (a fictional console on TSA ) game you were playing, this game is good by all the means, your wrong conceptions should not be relevant to a review.
