The quality of the games in Tomb Raider IV - VI is nothing short of a mixed bag, but the remastering job is top notch. Fans won't probably need convincing to plump down the cash for this latest bundle, and The Last Revelation was always one of Lara's best outings. Despite their flaws, Chronicles and Angel of Darkness are worth dipping into, and the latter is in its best shape to date, warts and all.- PlayStation Universe

Two Point Museum manages to stand out among the crowd as a management simulator that actually feels good to play on a form-factor that traditionally makes them a true struggle. Beyond that - it’s a phenomenally layered and engaging game in its own right, with a brilliant balance of mechanical depth and humour that never felt like it wore thin or strayed into silliness. The two elements are married together in a way that’s incredibly moreish, and delightfully self-aware, despite some of the mechanics being a bit more random than I’d like for this game.- PlayStation Universe

Endlessly ambitious and full of detail, Monster Hunter: Wilds manages to deliver on everything that it sets out to do and then some. I have complete faith in Capcom to keep building off of this launch as one of their strongest foundations yet. Putting the game down genuinely seems like an impossibility with just how much there is to do. The wait has been long and tense, but Capcom haven't missed the mark with their latest and arguably, greatest.- PlayStation Universe

Tape 1 of Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is a solid prologue for what might hopefully "bloom" into a memorable story of reunion and reconnecting after decades apart. There are some bold new steps for the genre here, that are unfortunately held back by design choices that already felt archaic back when we first encountered them a decade ago. For now, I'm intrigued and interested to see what comes next, despite the obligatory wait.- PlayStation Universe

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is totally bonkers in places, but don't let that put you off; there's a surprising amount of heart in its narrative, and the game effortlessly captures the thrill and spirit of adventure. Ultimately, I enjoyed my time with Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip. The combination of writing and premise make this a funny game to waste away an afternoon with. The way the game puts things together and then subverts expectations is nothing short of special. For many like me, seeing Ninja Gaiden emboss a game basically guarantees a purchase. Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is no exception. On top of its stapled blisteringly challenging combat, the entire game receives a visual level of polish that makes it feel new again. That said, the problems still exist, like enemy projectiles flying through objects and still hitting you. Above all else, though, the camera issues remain the most frustrating element of the game. Still, there's enough fun, gore, and challenge that will outweigh the outdated traits, even for newcomers.- PlayStation Universe

Though not without some flaws inherited from the previous game, Warhorse Studios has nonetheless done it again with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. An eye-wateringly authentic, historical open world RPG that will utterly take over your life with its evocative depiction of Medieval Europe and frequently hilarious side quests, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is the single most immersive medieval power fantasy there is and the first essential RPG of the year.- PlayStation Universe

2025 is off to an excellent start with Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector; as it improves upon its predecessor in every capacity. Altogether, Sniper Elite: Resistance is a fine entry in the Sniper Elite franchise which gives us more insight into Harry Hawker, as well as a shiny protagonist spotlight for him to be recognized in. The meat and potatoes (or should that be bullets and bones?) of the Sniper Elite experience is all here and accounted for, and although there are various new locations to be in awe of, and navigational options to test out, Resistance fails to truly push the envelope in exciting directions despite shifting the focus onto a new hero and a new story.- PlayStation Universe

Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles has pleasantly survived times with this remaster. While it doesn’t alter too much from the original game it does enough to make sure it's not showing its age too much. To port a game as old as this and allow it to feel and look how nostalgia paints it in our minds is something very impressive. Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles may not rock your socks off if you don't have fond memories of the game, but if it was something you enjoyed in your youth, then it's definitely worth a punt.- PlayStation Universe

While Freedom Wars Remastered doesn’t offer many updates to the original game, the updates it does make enhance the experience for the better. A full English voice cast combined with updated controls and an improved upgrading system make this game a gear hunter’s delight. While the resolution increase to 4K helps a bit, the 60 frames-per-second refresh rate completely changes the game. For what it’s worth, you still play the same mission types over and over in the same handful of maps, leaving the original repetitive formula untouched. As long as you know what to expect from Freedom Wars Remastered, you will find a compelling IP “monster hunting” RPG that begs for a sequel.- PlayStation Universe

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana might not light the world on fire in a modern landscape, but still stands as a formidable remaster of a classic action-RPG that would have otherwise been lost to the sands of time. This entry cuts a lot of the complexities that have become synonymous with the genre and offers an easily understood romp that is a great palette cleanser after a glut of dense RPGs in the last year. While I found this to be a bit too simple in the long run, others may find this to be a compelling return to one of Ys' lesser recognised shores.- PlayStation Universe

Alien: Rogue Incursion has a lot for Alien fans to love and appreciate, with surprises that'll truly delight fans the way they delighted me. But repetitive gameplay that doesn't really evolve dulls down the tension and scare-factor significantly by the time you're wrapping up this initial part of the story, and far too much jank pulls you out of the atmosphere that is working overtime to immerse you in the Alien universe. And yet, for Alien fans, it's one of the better games to come since Isolation, but it's not the new number one.- PlayStation Universe

If you were hoping that The Thing Remastered would fix many of the issues of the original 2002 game, you will be semi-satisfied. The Thing Remastered preserves the twenty-year old PS2 game without tarnishing it, and improving some presentation aspects, as well as tidying up the formerly broken Infection System. Farewell North is a wonderfully introspective experience that truly feels like it nails the concept it sets out to achieve. Not once did I feel like being a dog was a gimmick or made for the sake of standing out - this truly feels like one of the first games to capture that unspoken and ironclad bond between a dog and its owner. As well as that, Farewell North is an incredibly beautiful game about saying goodbye and that's a universal problem that feels articulated smartly here. Skydance's Behemoth offers a huge amount of spectacle with the four giant creatures you'll take down over the course of your time with it, but spectacle is the majority of what's on offer. It's a shallow game with a combat system that never challenges you to evolve your tactics (even when/if it's working properly), a repetitive gameplay-loop, runtime bloating encounters and box-pushing puzzles, and a story that does nothing new with uninteresting characters. Traversing around with a grapple hook and climbing the giant beasts at least proved both consistently fun and an interesting gameplay experience in VR, and it has its fair share of visually striking moments, but that isn't enough to recommend it.- PlayStation Universe

With only two major games in the franchise starting at the end of the Fairy Tail story, Fairy Tail 2 seems like an odd choice. While it's perfect for franchise fans, people looking to jump in for the first time will lose out on many stories and content. The game features an intense combat system, even though it's a tad on the easy side and has plenty of worlds to explore. The Thaumaturge does so much right. From the voice work to the narrative to the customizability of combat, your time with Wiktor will be time well spent. Still, combat can feel like more work than it should in the first couple hours, and short-lived performance glitches tend to appear after most cutscenes. Finally, in some areas, the isometric angle of the game does not compensate for tall buildings in certain areas, making it hard to navigate in those places. Regardless, none of these things bring down the experience. Wiktor makes for a fantastic lead character in a strong combination of narrative and concepts. There is plenty to love about Darktide, and all the improvements made to the game in the two years since its release have solidified it as one of the better co-op exclusive shooters. Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is a truly singular game that demonstrates a distilled ambition for what the medium can achieve. It skillfully takes the foundation from its survival horror ancestry and manages to transition into something that transcends the screen and even the controller, to engage a player in a totally unique way. While this ambition to immerse isn't without wrinkles, I can't help but be staggered with how much is achieved here and the boundaries that are crossed in the process. In some ways, Lorelei demonstrates just how far the medium can be stretched and pushed to draw a player in, beyond the act alone of picking up a controller. You're invited to live this story, and that's precisely what you should do.- PlayStation Universe

SPRAWL has a few solid core features that work well, letting you string along enough good moments that you're actually having fun. But its shortcomings ultimately reveal how shallow it is, and the truth is that SPRAWL doesn't present a compelling case for why you should play it over other recently released boomer-shooters that are doing more interesting things in the genre. A charming presentation and solid foundation do precious little in light of a control scheme that's beyond frustrating for console players. The real challenge of a management simulator should always stem from having a clear hold of your surroundings and the ways that you can influence them, not the mere act of checking numbers and your progress. If you're a connoisseur of this particular brand of clunkiness, you might find something to enjoy in this new release, otherwise I would sincerely recommend checking out the game with a keyboard and mouse, if you're able.- PlayStation Universe

Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred brings some new content to the table, including the new playable class, a new zone, a new coop mode, and some new story. For a brand new IP that lagrely distances itself from its siblings, Metaphor: ReFantazio is a triumphant showcase of what the RPG genre can do and the way that stories can interact with our world. Every moving part is acutely designed to mesh together into a game that feels truly one-of-a-kind. Every line of dialogue feels perfectly attuend to its audience and deals with issues in a way that honestly floored me. The Archetype system is bold and inventive, building brilliantly on the foundations set by Persona, and it offers a completely unique style that far and away establishes itself as a worthy player in ATLUS' auspicious wheelhouse. Those who enjoyed the first game or even the movies of the same titles will surly find a lot of love here.- PlayStation Universe

Sonic X Shadow Generations is a high-speed thrills package that combines the best of 2D and 3D Sonic, with superb level design and great boss battles. The addition of Shadow's campaign is a great bonus, and despite some issues with stages proving a little unforgiving and delivering cheap deaths, the overall package is a must-have for Sonic fans.- PlayStation Universe

Though Killing Time: Resurrected can't really hang with other boomer shooters in 2024, let alone more contemporary fare from a fundamentals perspective, I'm still happy that Nightdive Studios has cemented its heroic status by remastering it to an extremely high standard anyway and its love for the source material is abundantly clear. In spite of its clunky and flawed fundamentals, Killing Time is indicative of a shooter that wasn't afraid to try new things in 1995 and if there's one thing that remains true even now, it's that more FPS efforts could certainly learn to take a risk or two.- PlayStation Universe

While Ys X: Nordics might not light the world on fire by itself - and certainly has some core issues that could do with refining - I found that most of these issues slid into the back of my mind as I kept on playing. The story of Adol, Karja and the Griegr is enough to keep the game moving forward and the character moments that flesh it out were good. Ys X manages to demosntrate the key strengths of the franchise but unfortunate balance and shaky new mechanics hold it back from being a homerun.- PlayStation Universe

Neva is a stunning game with incredible art and visuals that showcase a Nomada Studio team that's much more refined since it's last game, "Gris." The much-improved gameplay experience on offer in Neva paired with a deeply emotional story that's expressed in the art, the score, and the wonderfully detailed animations hit deep within you, charging you towards the credits until you're weeping while watching them roll. It's more simplistic puzzle-platforming and combat design do leave something to be desired, and a pacing deficiency dampens the mood, but those issues don't stop it from being a must-play game and one of the best indie's in 2024.- PlayStation Universe

EA Sports NHL 25 fails to deliver on the promises it sets in the new features that EA swears are improvements. It's another example of an entry into an annualized sports game series that doesn't feel like it's doing anything differently from the last year, but at least in this case last year's (and by default this years) game is fun to play.- PlayStation Universe

It may not be very long, but Dagon: Complete Edition does a fabulous job of depicting some of the stories that make the Lovecraft mythos so enticing. It's not much of a game either, and one of the DLCs feels a bit out of place. Still, the experience compels you to delve into the abyss, which is exactly what the source material does in the first place.- PlayStation Universe

Silent Hill 2 Remake is bleak, grotesque and utterly compelling in its retelling of a horror masterpiece, with superb visuals and performances, and an immersive narrative that is just as hard hitting as it was over 20 years ago. A couple of missteps here and there do not deter from Bloober Team's masterful remake of what is, for my money, the greatest horror game ever conceived.- PlayStation Universe

Much like the determined underdog facing the resplendent and almighty champion, Undisputed gets its licks in trying to carve its own legacy over the old Fight Night franchise, but ultimately suffers defeat due to a disappointingly crummy career mode, a decent if patchy roster, and some in-ring kinks. Still, Undisputed impresses with its blunt-force combos and its attempts to rock its competition with heavy unrelenting blows. The in-ring action of Undisputed is what shines through, and this is what you should savour the most, along with all those attractive venues and presentation qualities. Thankfully, the in-ring action here is satisfying enough to keep you engaged for a while. Undisputed is deserving of your attention and you'll be glad to give it a go if you miss the Fight Night games, just so long as you don't enter the fray believing it's championship material.- PlayStation Universe

The campaign certainly lacks in certain aspects, but there is high quality, action packed, creative cutscenes to enjoy regardless. Even though nearly a decade has passed since Until Dawn first spooked and tore its way onto PlayStation consoles, its keenly judged take on the teen slasher trope together with convincing voice actor performances and non-linear narrative still remain appealing - and arguably sit at the apex of anything developer Supermassive Games has created. Of course, if you were indifferent to Until Dawn when it originally released, this shiny new 2024 edition will do precious little to change your mind. For everyone else however, Until Dawn's PS5 outing represents the definitive version of one of the most effective horror titles released in the last console generation.- PlayStation Universe

There's no denying that Throne and Liberty is a visual treat and certainly one of the best looking MMORPGs to come along in some time. In more ways that one, Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit is a first for the series. A new direction and a return to the classic horror roots that began the series serves as a reminder that these games can actually be a tense experience if they want to be. Doing away with the fluff that has shifted the focus, I enjoyed my time exploring these dense environments, when I could do so without interruption. Despite the clear passion and direction here, the experience of playing the game was far clunkier than it should have been, with some downright tragic bugs plaguing the experience during the review process. While I can see a great survival horror experience under the hood, I have to take into the account the issues that I had with the game. I really hope the team can address these in the coming days.- PlayStation Universe

FC25 is an improvement on the previous entry, moving in a positive direction. Ultimate Team continues to be egregious, but Rush is refreshing and fun. Some decent changes help elevate NBA 2K25 from last year's release, such as a more consolidated experience in The City as well as even more gameplay animations to enhance the gameplay experience. Castlevania Dominus Collection almost flawlessly brings back a collection of games that were previously trapped on hardware that was tough to bring to new platforms. Extensive effort has gone into making sure that they suit the form factor of a home console and the effort is admirable to say the least. Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis retains the same commitment to bringing the original game to a new generation, but unfortunately ends up remaking the same mistakes that make this epilogue such a divisive experience for players across the board. There are some memorable character moments here for players looking to spend that little bit of extra time with the team, but I finished this DLC questioning if it was truly worth the tedium of the dungeon-crawling, even if the combat is fun and the production values are still off the charts. While Atlus' dedication to bringing the old game to a new audience is commendable, I think this epilogue deserved a little bit more of a rework than it got.- PlayStation Universe

Everything you enjoyed from Dead Rising is here and the flurry of meaningful enhancements to the core game make it the complete package. Sure, some lingering quibbles remain from the original game like the time-sensitive gameplay, the pop-in, and bosses that repeat the same predictable attack patterns, yet this remaster refines many of the drawbacks of the original game, and fine-tunes it for a game befitting of the year 2024. All told, Jot’s maiden adventure is a resounding success, a confident melding of mechanics, personality, and charm, all executed with a degree of confidence that few developers can match for a first release. Evotinction is a solid stealth adventure that explores what could happen if friendly AI assistants turned into deadly AI assailants. I certainly enjoyed my time with Wild Bastards. The blended Wild West and sci-fi settings, together with hybridised strategy and roguelike FPS approach, all make Wild Bastards feel a lot fresher than many of the shooters on the market right now. Sure, the nuts and bolts of its face-blasting might not rub shoulders with the genre's best in the purest sense and the visual presentation is lacking somewhat, but the level of design ingenuity and rough-shackle charm that is on display here ably makes up for such shortcomings.- PlayStation Universe

MARVEL vs, CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is exactly what it says on the front and so much more. This collection is a triumphant return for a selection of games that many thought lost to complicated industry red tape, and it comes back with some serious bite. The 6 fighting games in this collection are almost perfectly preserved for new hardware and modern audiences, with a suite of additional features to fill out the experience into both a preservation effort and a deep-dive into Capcom's history with Marvel. While it might take a bit of work for newcomers to get to grips with these classic games, the effort is well worth it for one of the most well-realised crossovers in gaming history.- PlayStation Universe

Despite some hefty flaws, the fact that Antstream Arcade has come on leaps and bounds since its debut in 2013 gives me hope that the service will continue to improve in the weeks, months and years after its PlayStation debut. I enjoyed my time with Akimbot. It is a charming and surprising lengthy game, with tight controls and a well voiced story. As a diehard Ratchet & Clank fan with no new Ratchet game on the horizon, it was nice to just relax and run around a colorful, platform-y world, and just shoot some bots.
