Persona 3 Reload - Episode Aigis: The Answer is the perfect epilogue to one of the best games of the year. The DLC offers an exceptional narrative about loss, grief, and moving on that brings the characters to a close, while also bringing more of the combat and exploration that make the game so special.

Episode Aigis is a necessary product to complete this remake of one of the cornerstones of JRPG history. Die-hard fans of the title will certainly be thrilled to return to the shoes of the SEES, but the repetitive dungeons and the limited number of activities offered risk quickly giving way to monotony. Fans of the turn-based gameplay of Persona 3 will however be happy to be able to enjoy a gaming experience without interruptions, strong in an accelerated progression and in the name of dungeon crawling.

Episode Aigis, the new DLC for Persona 3 Reload, offers a faithful recreation of The Answer from Persona 3 FES. While it explores profound themes like grief and trauma, its gameplay focuses heavily on combat, omitting many life-simulation elements that made the original game beloved. Although improved combat mechanics and character growth are satisfying, the repetitive procedural dungeons detract from the overall experience. However, the narrative depth, emotional closure, and connection to Persona 3 Reload make this content essential for fans who completed the main story despite its narrow focus and steep price point.

Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis retains the same commitment to bringing the original game to a new generation, but unfortunately ends up remaking the same mistakes that make this epilogue such a divisive experience for players across the board. There are some memorable character moments here for players looking to spend that little bit of extra time with the team, but I finished this DLC questioning if it was truly worth the tedium of the dungeon-crawling, even if the combat is fun and the production values are still off the charts. While Atlus' dedication to bringing the old game to a new audience is commendable, I think this epilogue deserved a little bit more of a rework than it got.

Adds more activity to a great game at a steep price, but doesn’t do much to justify another go-around. Ultimately left living in the base game’s shadow. [Issue#46, p.90]

Episode Aigis offers more than what Persona 3 Reload gave us. The social balance isn't present in this expansion, but the closure and narrative crumbs are appreciated in its 30 hours of gameplay.

Episode Aigis is one for the super fans. Its worthwhile story beats are rare and buried beneath a lot of all-too-familiar dungeon crawling, and it's undeniably expensive in terms of asking price. At best, it's an intriguing but flawed epilogue; at worst, it's a completely unnecessary addition to a fantastic game.
