Nov 25, 2024Metro: Awakening is what happens when a now proven professional VR studio gets involved with triple-A game series. It delivers a truly next-level experience that is indispensable for Metro fans and VR enthusiasts who want to experience the tension and oppression of the legendary rotten post-apocalyptic metro system. More VR games of this caliber, please!

Nov 5, 2024Metro Awakening VR is an ambitious effort. Aside from the mura issue, which is PSVR 2 specific, the only other blemish is a restart bug. Whenever I died and the game restarted, it would often crash. Hopefully, this is a bug that can be quickly fixed with a patch. Aside from the PSVR 2 mura issue, this is a top-notch game that should not only appeal to VR Gamers but fans of the Metro series. The game has 12 chapters and each chapter should take you about an hour to play. That is if the mutants and spiders don’t creep you out and force you to rip off your headset.

Nov 11, 2024Metro Awakening is one of the best virtual reality video games of recent times, making use of a sensational setting - as terrifying as it is overwhelming - and a more than striking staging. Its development can sometimes be repetitive and monotonous, although the survival mechanics and weapon manipulation do the rest, despite feeling somewhat less precise than in other similar FPS. A great addition to an already successful saga that finds in VR a new space in which to expand its universe and that any shooter fan should experience.

Nov 5, 2024If you have a PlayStation VR2 sitting around collecting dust, now is the time to get it out. Metro Awakening is going to remind you why it's so special and, above all, different to play with one of these headsets and its futuristic controls. Vertigo Games played it safe with tried-and-true elements from any VR FPS, but it knew how to intrigue in a great way what makes the saga it's representing so special and beloved with a completely new title that adds to its intricate lore. Now, I couldn't tell you that this game is a reason to run out and buy Sony's device, but it is one that contributes to the small offer of titles it has, not to mention that we're talking about a new Metro, something that hasn't happened since 2019 with the sensational Metro Exodus.

Jan 17, 2025Overall, I think Metro Awakening VR is a worthy VR experience and a good Metro game, but it is not particularly groundbreaking on either front. I am thrilled to see more mainstream AAA titles getting VR releases that are more than just tacked-on afterthoughts. The quality that Metro Awakening manages to display is more than enough to justify other developers looking into making similar games and perhaps even a low-risk way to revive some other dormant franchises in VR (Resistance, please, I’m begging you). I hope to see more of this type of VR title in the future and am happy to see the medium continue to move forward.

Nov 6, 2024Metro Awakening is an admirable attempt at translating the post-apocalyptic shooter series into virtual reality, and at its best is a poignantly atmospheric marvel with great controls and an unrivalled sense of place. Yet it is also held back by poor checkpoints and combat, which quickly falls into a repetitive game of cat and mouse between very stupid enemies. It learns all the right lessons from masterpieces like Half-Life: Alyx without introducing enough new innovations of its own, and because of that, it suffers.
