    It’s been 22 years since The Thing’s first release, and during this time the horror genre and the video game industry as a whole has seen massive changes both in terms of visuals and gameplay mechanisms. The Thing Remastered falls short when compared to modern standards and can’t hold a candle to even mediocre horror games of modern times. However, if you fancy visiting the memory lane or want to see what older games have to offer, it might not be a bad idea to give The Thing a shot.

    The thing remastered is another great shot from nightdive studios. Shooting mechanics stop being dated and become smoother, while technical effects shine in a deep horror atmosphere. But don't wait too long: linearity can impact those looking for more variety, while AI flaws make some encounters frustrating.

    Nightdive has greatly improved on a lost gem from the turn of the century, with a massive visual overhaul that further enhances on an impeccable atmosphere, even if aiming still underwhelms.

    The Thing: Remastered feels more like a port than an actual update, offering nothing particularly new or noteworthy. It remains a game that will push your tension to the limit with its mechanics that were ahead of their time. Perhaps improved visuals and more polished mechanics could have enhanced the experience.

    If you were hoping that The Thing Remastered would fix many of the issues of the original 2002 game, you will be semi-satisfied. The Thing Remastered preserves the twenty-year old PS2 game without tarnishing it, and improving some presentation aspects, as well as tidying up the formerly broken Infection System. However, if you expected refinements to game's shooting mechanics or many of its old foibles then you'll be disappointed.

    Back in 2002, The Thing was a rough around the edges way to continue John Carpenter's brilliant film but in 2024 it just looks and feels so dated that no amount of remastering can fix it.
