The all-new Grudge Match System keeps track of the competitive history between teams and the introduction of SAPIEN Technology to the NHL franchise takes character likenesses to a whole other level. The addition of a revamped Franchise Mode experience, a brand-new WOC Live Events structure, HUT Wildcard Mode, and a simplified, single-path XP progression shared across HUT kicks Chel’s game modes up a notch. Check out all the new ways you can build your dream roster in Hockey Ultimate Team, including Wildcard Mode that brings unique rulesets to keep players on their toes and ready to adapt with each and every cycle. Plus, all of the XP earned in Squad Battles, Rivals, and Wild Card are now combined into a single progression path. [Electronic Arts] Expand

NHL 25 returns to form with impressive hockey. Satisfying changes to gameplay and updates to Franchise Mode including the addition of the Grudge Match breathe much-needed life into the series. ICE-Q works well and the changes to AI and being able to square up offensively against the goalie will create different results rather than just going through the motions in games and exploiting. There are still a few legacy issues here that are more personal annoyances including passing and a dated presentation model, but the move to current generation consoles has only allowed the team to create a significant upgrade to the series.

With NHL 25 EA Sports delivers another enjoyable ice hockeygame. Thanks to the solid presentation and overall fun gameplay, players will have a good time again. The NHL-franchise is stagnating and the lack of real innovation and the well-known pay-to-win-mechanics within Hockey Ultimate Team hurt the experience immensely.

Being the first sports game exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series, we should be more demanding with this one. Despite being solid technically, it´s not amazing, but it´s enough to satisfy hockey fans, although its lack of new functions.

NHL 25 makes some minor strides to improve on last year's game, but will mostly appeal to those interested in team management and being a superstar forward. As a franchise, it continues to wait for a top draft pick that can turn things around in a meaningful way.

NHL 25 is a good game when it focuses on hockey, it’s when microtransactions come into play that things become tacky.

NHL 25 is yet another addition to the series that feels familiar. While it serves as a relatively complete simulation of the popular sport of ice hockey, this title fails to introduce anything new or address the longstanding issues that have plagued the franchise for quite some time.

NHL 25 isn’t great. While there are welcome changes this time, almost all of them are cosmetic, or menu-oriented. Ultimately, that’s what this iteration amounts to: a hyper-fixation on presentational components. Where are the new game modes? Improvements to the controls? Sure the game looks great, but wouldn’t it be awesome if it played great as well?
