In the end, Monster Train 2 is a ride that promises hellfire and havoc but mostly delivers a slot machine in disguise. Beneath the bold aesthetics, catchy animations, and endless streams of demonic jargon lies a game that seems more interested in flipping coins than rewarding planning or skill. Sure, there are moments when the cards line up, your units hold their ground, and the monster library gets a new dusty entry. Strategy might give you the illusion of control, but don’t be fooled, this train doesn’t run on tactics, it runs on dice rolls. Maybe that’s enough. Maybe the spectacle, the lore, and the familiar mechanics still hold some spark. But for newcomers like me, Monster Train 2 isn’t a calculated journey through the underworld.

Even as a newcomer to the series, I think SNK VS. CAPCOM: CARD FIGHTERS’ CLASH is a pretty solid game. Other than a few annoyances here and there, I can say I enjoyed this classic title. If you’re an SNK or Capcom fan, or a card trading game fanatic, I’d say this retro goodie is worth adding to your collection.

Overall, both Dragon Quest games are a blast to play. The remakes give both a visual upgrade with more characters and brilliant soundtracks. Both games have beautiful open worlds, while offering challenging fights. The first Dragon Quest is hindered a bit by not having a party system but is still fun to play. Both games also stumble in the story department but the exploration, combat and open world are too good to ignore. If you want to check out these classics, the remakes are the best way to do it right now.

While not without its flaws, it successfully captures the heart of the original while offering a polished, modern experience. Fans of the series and newcomers with an appreciation for retro-inspired games will likely find this remake a worthy addition. However, for those seeking a more action-packed or dynamically animated experience, the game may not fully meet expectations. With its rich legacy and careful modernization, this remake strikes a delicate balance between honouring the past and embracing the present.

A lot has changed in the roguelike genre since Shiren’s last adventure. Many of those evolutions in the genre make playing this game feel a little dated. I wish there were more to do in the hub world. I wish I could build my character in the dungeons rather than rely on items to survive. Despite not having those things, learning how the game works is still fun. For those looking for a challenging roguelike, Shiren The Wanderer offers a dungeon crawler that makes players think about how they move. While there is strategic depth, its clunky movement, unengaging combat, and generic fantasy plot keep this game from being a great roguelike.

While Dawnfolk may have stripped away too much in the pursuit of minimalism, it's still a fun and strangely absorbing mix of city-builder and puzzle game.

For me, Not Tonight 2 is a great bouncer simulator with a sprinkle of political issues that adds a little spice to the stew. If this sounds like your cup of tea, then give it a go, but don’t dive in expecting challenging politics. It’s witty, satirical, charming and maybe just a little food for thought.

If you fancy an evening of blood, madness and handsome anime men, give Virche Evermore a whirl. The lack of player input remains a sore spot for me, but this is an excellent example of the genre, especially if you're a lover of horror.

Death Howl will undoubtedly attract more players in the future and retain its positive reviews It's a fun, unique and somewhat addictive deckbuilder with appealing artwork, multiple different card combinations, along with some vibrant locations. Whilst the difficulty and constant grinding put me off of it, I still think there's a great game to be found amongst the enemies you'll constantly have to overcome to progress further.

Despite its shortcomings, FAR: Changing Tides is stunning and is an atmospheric triumph. I loved the developer’s vision for a doomed future, and the array of environments you explore.

The Lullaby of Life is a cozy, sound-based puzzle game tackling the complexities of creation and evolution with the simplest of gameplay.

Undeniably charming, with an interesting and inventive plot, even if the writing is a bit wonky at times. However, it poorly connects its plot and gameplay, leading to horrendous pacing that ends up dragging both sides down.

The latest installment of the Jurassic World Evolution series proved to be the best one yet, with the biggest roster of dinosaurs, a wide variety of attractions and buildings to place around the sites, along with some beautiful locations at the very heart of your parks.

Overall, Dragon Quest Treasures is a charming spin-off to the mainline series that satisfies the DQ itch but does leave me wanting more as the grand scope of the campaign isn’t quite there for me. That might be the point, a smaller, more intimate story, but it’s not my cup of tea. Hopefully, Monsters later this year is good, but I yearn for Dragon Quest XII but given the complete radio silence on that since 2017 I don’t expect much soon.

Symphony of War: The Nephilim Saga is a fabulously fun tactical RPG. The squad-based gameplay and management mechanics co-exist incredibly well, and there is a surprising amount of complexity in each of the systems. While the expanded lore has had a lot of thought put into it, the games narrative does feel rather rushed and uninteresting. If you’re a fan of management RPGs, and are looking for something that will scratch the Ogre Battle itch, then this is a game worth checking out.

Sumerian Six is a wonderfully weird blend of Nazi Germany and ancient Sumeria. Its characters are unique, if a little underbaked, and its gameplay rewards strategic thinking well. Its skills are a little much - and the AI is not enough - but it's a decent entry in the stealth-strategy genre.

Wonderfully pretty, with decent world and character design, Momodara: Moonlit Farewell is held back by some balance issues and genre specific bugbears.

A nice world, boss designs and mini-puzzles are drowned by sticky, one-note combat and blunted exploration mechanics.

Desktop Dungeons: Rewind, is an enjoyable game with a lot of puzzle-based gameplay and a variety of different modes. Unfortunately, the game has faults like the cheesy dialogue and the intrusive UI. However, the amazing character designs, amount of content, and great puzzle gameplay far outweigh the bad. Although the game can be frustratingly difficult, the game is still overall an entertaining experience. I recommend giving this game a chance if you are interested in trying out this unique hybrid of rouge-like and puzzle gameplay.

ZERO Sievert is an enjoyable game with its deep world-building, fun gameplay, and great presentation. However, it struggles with some aspects of its presentation and its teaching tools. Although, this game is still in early access and might have changes in the future that fix these problems. Overall, ZERO Sievert is still a very fun time. If you are a fan of the Survival genre of games I recommend giving it a go.

An ambitious RTS that attempts to shoulder the legacy of its predecessors. The skirmish combat remains fun and the campaign map has potential, but it's let down by wonky AI and a confusing difficulty curve.

Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy is a funny 2.5D puzzle platformer. What's more, it can be enjoyed alone or played with 2 friends. As such, you'll argue, scream, and laugh repeatedly. However, there is a serious lack of lore, and this disappointed me.

Pretty and full of interesting people, My Time At Sandrock is a jack of all trades, master of none. It has a lot to do but is quite thinly spread. Still, it won't fail to put a smile on your face.

ChromaGun 2 is a little overstuffed at times, but the central puzzle mechanic is good fun and mostly results in well-thought-out puzzles.

King Arthur: Knight's Tale is an interesting hybrid title that has some unusual elements. However, the bland level design and repetitive overworld hold it back. Had these layers been improved, this would have held my attention throughout. As it is, I recommend it as I know others will forgive these shortcomings.

Despite its shortcomings, Atelier Yumia still offers a fun and engaging experience, especially for fans of the series and alchemy mechanics. The story, UI, and animations are definite highlights, and the synthesis system remains a strong point. I will recommend this to anyone that wants to chill, gather, craft and switch off for a while. However, the poor world design, redundant mechanics, and unbalanced progression prevent it from reaching the heights of its predecessors.

In summary, Super Alloy Ranger is a short, yet passionate love letter to the Mega Man series. The gameplay, remaining simplistic in its approach, is unbelievably engaging and accessible. Although the narrative direction is mostly forgettable and lacklustre, the visual and audio departments more than make up for it through their superb presentation. I can easily recommend Super Alloy Ranger to retro 2D platforming fans, especially those who enjoyed Mega Man X, or the Metal Slug series.

Deadlink is a relentless arena-based FPS with rogue-lite elements. You must jump, dive, and shoot your way to victory. However, death is guaranteed, and failure is all but assured. Yet, this matters not as you become stronger, faster, and wiser with each passing playthrough.

Aliens: Dark Descent is a great strategy title with oodles of potential. However, game-breaking bugs and annoying sound bites hold it back. Yet, if the problems can be ironed out, you'll enjoy a tough and deep trip in to the Aliens world.

Overall, Universe for sale is a cute little narrative game that does a wonderful job of bringing you alongside its simple story, even if there are a few frustrations here and there.

Radiant Tale -Fanfare!- is a love letter to fans of the original game. I've some issues with the writing - and the lack of any gameplay is a continuous thorn in my side - but it explores some nice themes and is built on top of an intriguing world.

Spilled! is a calm and simple indie game. The rudimentary imagery and wholesome audio work particularly well. Furthermore, the gameplay is refined but fun. My only complaint is it isn't long enough.

While I went in with low expectations, Achilles Survivor was able to clear them with minimal effort. Dark Point Games have proven themselves in my eyes, and created a solid experience worth the attention of genre fans. Despite minor balancing flaws, it’s a more than serviceable time-waster, one that I plan to sink many more hours into.

Birdigo no doubt succeeded in being an enjoyable and addictive experience, on top of that it had some unique power-ups and it was a very calm and peaceful game. However, its difficulty and luck dependent system ruined the gameplay massively. It's no doubt one of the best word games I've ever played but at the same time the hardest and most annoying one too.

The Ruined King is varied enough that it kept me entertained throughout the majority of my playthrough, but combat fatigue eventually left me feeling a little exhausted by the end of it. While the story is fairly simplistic, the charming characters, mixed with the sublime art style, made it a fun jaunt overall. If you are a fan of League of Legends and turn-based RPGs, then this is the game for you. Otherwise, I’d recommend waiting until this goes on sale before picking it up for yourself.

The Gap is a brave and mostly effective stab at a deep, emotional story. The non-linear way the story is told is an effective use of the medium but its otherwise uninspired gameplay and short length do drag it down a touch.

Empire of the Ants is a strange blend of RPG and RTS action. However, it is the ultrarealistic world and the phenomenal audio that makes this shine. Though the camera angle was occasionally horrible, I enjoyed the variety of missions and the interesting but flawed story.

Overall, Ys X: Nordics balances the familiar and the new, delivering an enjoyable experience for fans despite a few missteps. The land-based combat and character interactions are a hit, while the naval exploration and combat could benefit from refinement. It’s a game that brings excitement for long-time Ys fans and offers a good starting point for newcomers, albeit with the caveat that it may not be the series’ best effort at sea.

Spirit Hunters: Death Mark II is a visual horror novel that delivers some stunning visuals but is an otherwise okay video game. While the story felt cliche at some moments, there were some bright spots in the 20 hours I spent with the game. While Suspensive Acts was my favorite part of the game, playing it sometimes felt frustrating because of the RNG nature. Fans of the franchise might be happy to see the original characters return. For fans of visual novels, there are better options for anyone looking for a horror visual novel game.

Yoshi’s Crafted World is a decent platformer that is fun to go through, despite its minor hiccups. How players can approach this game depends on either desiring to reach the end of it or collecting everything to completion. The game won’t raise the bar, but it will remind you that it is a harmless artsy platformer starring everyone’s favorite rideable green dinosaur.

Yomawari is a beautiful, unique game with a heavy atmosphere and a competent story, but it’s weighed down by too many gamplay issues to warrant paying the $40. Unless you are a pre-established Yomawari fan, or are just in love with this genre of horror, I would wait for a sale, or even scoop up the other games instead.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is a tale of two halves. On the story front, it might be one of the weaker stories for the MMO. Wuk Lamat is an overbearing main character who is illogical at times. None of the other new characters stand out, and fan favorites from previous expansions don’t significantly impact the story. On the other hand, the dungeons and trials are some of the most fun I’ve had in the game. Both new classes are a blast, and the graphics update adds a nice touch to the game. Fans of the story might be disappointed, especially after Endwalker and Shadowbringers. This expansion delivers on all fronts for players looking to grind new content.

The freedom to explore a gigantic, living world proves to be a bit of a double-edged sword. Exciting exploration, nice boss fights and the thrill of conquering a world spars against dry writing and a touch of repetition in the combat.

In short, Characters are forgettable, dialogue is sparse, the and world is lifeless. And the only good thing, the gameplay, is very repetitive.

Melee combat and parkour remain an entertaining pairing, but Dying Light is beginning to feel like it's just going through the motions.

SteamWorld Build is a fun and interesting city builder. Moreover, it remains faithful to the franchise. Additionally, the gameplay has a gentle learning curve and it is easy to play. However, the lack of difficulty and the short game length will disappoint some gamers.

As a visual novel, it’s serviceable at best. If you can ignore the poor translation, there’s a good story in there somewhere. I enjoyed the endings. Going through the whole game again wasn’t too much of a pain and there’s a relatively satisfying, not too depressing, conclusion. Unfortunately, The Hungry Lamb just makes too many slip-ups on the way. If you’re looking for a polished and thought-provoking piece, this lamb may just be a bit too overcooked.

The Devil's Playhouse is wonderfully funny and full of a lot of psychic-related puzzles. The writing's hilarious but the puzzles suffer a little, with a reliance on psychic toys and dialogue flags. Still, it kept a smile firmly on my face.

It is not a bad idea. It is just unfinished in spirit, like a proof of concept that made it out the door too early. With more time and clearer direction, this could have landed. As it stands, it just doesn’t.

Ultimately, Dead Rising: Deluxe Remaster strikes a delicate balance between maintaining the spirit of the original and introducing modern updates that make it more playable today. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the series, this remaster offers a thrilling and chaotic zombie-slaying experience that proves why Dead Rising remains a standout in Capcom’s catalogue.

If you want to discover everything that this game has to offer, prepare to sit through some particularly ‘draggy’ sections that’ll have your finger hovering over the skip-all button. This may set you back 50-60 hours depending on how fast you can read. Generally, I’m a fan of visual novels, but this one defeated me. A mix, I believe, of slow pace, bad writing and unnecessary sexual and misogynistic language that just made me groan. For some people, I’m sure that’ll be right up their alley, but personally, Tengoku Struggle really struggled to elicit any joy from me at all.

If you’re in it for the spectacle of giant robots and tactical combat, MechWarrior 5: Clans might just scratch that itch. Just be prepared to forgive its many missteps and focus on what truly matters—making things go boom.

Hatch Tales: A Heroic Hookshot Adventure looks fine, sounds fine, and plays fine. The game is not remarkable, but definitely worth your buck in terms of content and challenges.

Tormented Souls 2 does a good job emulating the survival horror greats that came before, ensuring that younger players are able to experience the older style of gameplay even as bigger brands continue in other directions. It certainly has a learning curve for newcomers, but those who persevere will discover why the genre was so popular during the 90s and 2000s.

An immensely charming roguelite in an interesting world, but the poor balance turns everything on its head.

Fitness Boxing Feat. Hatsune Miku is held back by a few practical problems that come with using Switch controllers, but it has enough charm to keep you off the sofa. Oddly fun, and a treat for anyone into Vocaloids.

If you have the money to spare or see the game on sale I would highly recommend experiencing what this title has to offer.

For players looking for something experimental and offbeat, Crazy HDC offers a glimpse of what could’ve been a great indie gem. But for anyone seeking depth, polish, or long-term replayability, it might leave you wandering the dungeon in search of more.

Rusted Moss is as beautiful as it is infuriating. An uncompromising metroidvania that looks and plays great. Its simplicity may lead to a few issues but it has a lot to give if you can break through its high difficulty.

NeoSprint is a stylish retro racing experience. Its top-down perspective felt comfortable and I adored the aggressive gameplay. Furthermore, there are loads of collectables to win. However, it may be too simple for some and this could disappoint.

Reus 2 is a fun god-like city builder where your giants rule the roost. Although it is a little grindy, it is enjoyable controlling every human and massive beast. If you've played the original, this will be familiar. However, if you are new to the franchise, some trial and error is needed.

Exo One is a tremendous title that stands out from its peers. Its easy controls and excellent aesthetics make it a joy to play. If the developers had added extra elements to the latter stages, then it would have been perfect.

Fading Afternoon tells the interesting story of Seiji Maruyama, an older Yakuza trying to re-establish himself in the newer world. There is a lot of interesting commentary on aging and reflections on the life you live, which I liked. To get to these moments, you have to battle through repetitive encounters. The game doesn’t give you much direction, so sometimes you aimlessly explore, hoping to trigger another cutscene on Seiji’s journey. If you can get through the repetitive combat, Fading Afternoon is worth checking out.

In the end, CyrpMaster is a completely unique and well-functioning game. However, if you are looking for a breathtaking story with good pacing, CryptMaster is not your light at the end of the tunnel.

Microtopia offers a fresh take on the factory-building genre. Its focus on efficient movement, worker lifespans, and creative logistics management makes it stand out from its peers. The challenge of creating optimized pathways without the reliance on traditional conveyor belts provides a unique gameplay experience that rewards careful planning and experimentation. While there are some rough edges, Microtopia is already a promising entry into the genre, and for those looking for a new challenge in automation and strategy, it’s well worth diving into. My main issue with Microtopia is the same as other games of the sort. every few hours I see my mistakes and either delete to rebuild, or start over.

Sophstar is a casual shmup that is addictive and fun. With 6 game modes and 6 difficulty settings, this will keep you busy. What's more, the never-ending bullet hell will test your patience and reactions.

Bore Blasters is an amazing 8bits ship exploring game. The game concept is simple to grasp. The gameplay is amazing and always attracts you to explore more. Although the game lacks a bit some feature and the environment's procedural generation might need a tweak or two. It still fit to be a game that offers something for players after a busy workday.

Kombinera is a fantastic minimalist puzzle title. Its bizarre story could have been better explained, but you'll love the action that unfolds, nonetheless. The problems are challenging, the graphics simple, and the audio surreal, and this makes it a basic but enjoyable experience.

It does have quite a bit of replayability which is always good for a game, I played through it twice and I absolutely would again just to see more of the scenery the beautiful Lake Garda, and Northern Italy has to offer.

Ultimately, Crazy Rocks makes a valiant attempt at evolving the formula but doesn’t quite stick the landing. If you want another game in the same vein as Papers, Please but with a little extra spice and an additional dimension then this is the absolutely game for you.

Discounty is a fun and relaxing title that falls in the life-sim genre. Though many of the core mechanics are familiar, the balance isn't quite right. Unfortunately, once you expand your shop, there are limited reasons to return.

Mario vs Donkey Kong is a delightful and captivating game that brings classic characters to life on the Nintendo Switch. With its captivating gameplay, charming graphics, and nostalgic appeal, it offers a fantastic experience for players of all ages.

If you’re like me and typically don’t gravitate toward this genre, this might be a great introduction to it. And if you are already an otome fan, you’ll likely appreciate the blend of fantasy, mystery, and romance that Genso Manège offers.

Demon’s Mirror certainly has its moments of intrigue and challenge, but as time goes on, the game’s repetitive nature and slow progression dampen the excitement. While it might appeal to those craving complexity and a bit of a mental workout, for most players, the frustration and lack of meaningful upgrades make it hard to recommend.

Lost Ruins is a 2D side-scrolling survival action game, where you play as a young girl that has awoken in a strange and foreign place without her memories. With the aid of weapons, spells and tonics, and the guidance of the magical and mysterious Beatrice, you will explore a dark and dangerous world, battle hideous monsters, and topple incredible bosses.

If you’re wondering I don’t recommend this game unless you’re already a fan of the series. And if you can get past most of its issues, your fine. If you’re anything like me, this will mostly come out to be a messy ride. I give this game a 5/10 a pretty fun game if you ignore the story, some characters, and the boring world.

If you are a fan of challenging platformers, and are in desire for a queer-friendly plot, Kitsune Tails is an excellent option to enjoy.

The Last Cube is a clean-cut but challenging puzzle platformer. You must tackle many problems and avoid obstacles as you overcome each puzzle. Deceptively easy at first, however, you'll soon be screaming at its brutality.

I truly think A Tale of Paper: Refolded is worth checking out on its presentation alone. The game oozes style, mystery and emotion through its beautiful visuals and enthralling sound design and score. The story itself tells a tale of purpose and determination and Line is an appealing character. It’s just a shame at times the gameplay can be frustrating and platforming can be tedious and generic. This edition doesn’t many more additions for previous owners of the game, bar a few tacked on extra levels. However, for newcomers, this game is certainly worth grabbing. A great example of creating an engaging and emotional story through high quality presentation. One word just keeps coming back to me for this game and that is simply- endearing.

Its super fun and smooth gameplay is never repetitive, although the level design could be better. Visually, it is an average ps4 game.

In summary, while “Hive Jump 2: Survivors” doesn’t reinvent the genre, it offers a solid, enjoyable experience for fans of bullet-hell roguelites. Its jetpack mechanic adds a unique touch to the action, and the upgrade system provides enough depth to keep players coming back for more. Norn9: Last Era is a large, good-looking second helping for fans of the series. It makes no attempts to convert outsiders, though, so if you have no investment then look elsewhere. The writing is a little iffy at times and the lack of gameplay is a shame, but the decision to further the character's stories is one to celebrate

Good ideas don’t always make good games, and sadly, No, I am not Human is a reminder of just that.

Opus: Echo of Starsong-Full bloom edition gives players a heartfelt adventure without asking for 40+ hours of their time. Since there is a heavy focus on music, players can expect to hear a beautiful soundtrack accompanied by Voice acting which was added to the Full bloom edition. The game runs well on the switch and is perfect for the on the go play but since players cannot save manually, it is important to dedicate time to playing the game.

It’s undeniably enjoyable, and playing with friends is excellent. However, it lacks depth and won’t challenge you.

Overall, “Horizon Chase” is an absolute joy to play. Its combination of stunning visuals, engaging music, and accessible yet challenging gameplay makes it a standout in the arcade racing genre. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick race or a longer session tackling the World Tour, the game is always ready to provide a good time. It’s the kind of game that you can easily pick up for a few minutes or lose yourself in for hours. With its variety of modes and multiplayer options, it’s a game that will keep you coming back for more.

Dripping with style and weird, mutated human entrails, Katanaut has a lot of promise in its great designs, but there's definite clunkiness in the combat.

Though I despise losing hours of hard work, there is a part of me that adores the high risk. The genre pushes you from start to end and Vagante will test you because of its solid and tough mechanics. It’s a gem of an indie title that stands out from the crowd. Disappointingly, its graphics weren’t as strong as I’d have liked, but this is a minor complaint.

Once again, I am not a fan of J-RPGs personally. However, I didn’t hate my time with Jack Move at all. I would credit this feeling mostly to the art and music. They were certainly excellent. The gameplay while staying true to the J-RPG roots, offers a bit of its own variety. I’m glad it’s a short game because if it were longer, it might’ve overstayed its welcome. I’d suggest Jack Move to anyone wanting to give a short to J-RPGs, since it could be too easy of a game for a fan of the genre.

Sam & Max: Beyond Space and Time tries to be too clever for its own good, expecting the player to follow long-winded and sometimes-incomprehensible logic of its puzzles, and with its dated references and cliched characters, although this entry might still be enjoyable, it is one of the less memorable Sam and Max entries.

The Plague Doctor of Wippra is a clever critique of the global pandemic that hasn’t quite gone away, told through the lens of late medieval Germany dealing with the bubonic plague. At its’s surface though, it’s a great point-and-click adventure game with interesting dialogue, raised stakes, alternate endings and enough puzzles to feel satisfying. Sadly, it is on the short side and can be completed within a couple of hours. But it’s a couple of hours well spent.

Asterigos: Curse of the stars: is a Souls-lite title that is fun, rewarding, and challenging. Furthermore, it has a fascinating story, and interesting characters, and is reasonably long. What's more, the atmospheric audio and fantastic environments make for a wonderful and fulfilling experience.
