Max is a hyperkinetic rabbity-thing with a taste for mayhem. Together, they're the Freelance Police - an irreverent comedy duo whose esoteric crime-fighting style has been entertaining comic book and video game fans for more than thirty years.

In this five-episode collection of interconnected cases, Sam & Max are back on the crime beat in a showdown with Santa Claus, a race to subdue a giant volcano, and a face-off with a Eurotrash vampire. And then things get even weirder.

Is paranoid shopkeeper Bosco on to something with his talk of a grand conspiracy? Is diner proprietress Stinky hiding the truth about what happened to her grandfather (also named Stinky)? Will flaky neighbor Sybil Pandemik ever find true love? Did someone say... BIRTHDAY?!

Hop into the DeSoto for a hilarious outing that won IGN's Adventure Game of the Year award the first time around and now looks and sounds better than ever, with gorgeous HD graphics, overhauled lighting and lip-sync, finessed cinematography, remastered audio, and eight all-new musical tracks featuring live jazz musicians.

Continuing in its triumph of comedic storytelling, Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space succeeds in almost every way. The writing is still on point with the majority of characters and the tales that Beyond Time and Space tell are quite enjoyable. However, most of the new additions to the cast don't hit the mark compared to the returning cast members. Other than that we still have head scratching puzzles, fun minigames, and the game looks and sounds brilliant thanks to the enhanced features.

Sam & Max make a largely triumphant return, with a reminder of just how special and stupid a series it can be. Save the World benefits the most from the overhaul, but Beyond Time and Space remains the peak of this former Telltale Games series.

Sam and Max Beyond Time and Space is a direct continuation of the first season of the freelance police’s antics and does not let up on the humour and standards set from before. Lovingly remastered by Skunkape games for the modern age, this is a great followup to the original season and the high-quality remains consistent throughout. If you loved Save the World then there is no reason not to get this, but you’ll be lost if you try Beyond Time and Space first.

Other than the puzzle conundrum, the second season offers more of what made the series a hit. Fans of the first season will greatly enjoy this second run. While it isn't necessary to play the first one to jump on this wagon, it is highly recommended, as there are plenty of returning characters and in-game jokes and references that you might miss if you have not played the first one yet.

More fantastical situations are a plus, but its lofty ambitions get in the way, feeling less tight than the first game. Worth playing, but you’ll have a tougher time. [Issue#20, p.79]

Sam & Max: Beyond Space and Time tries to be too clever for its own good, expecting the player to follow long-winded and sometimes-incomprehensible logic of its puzzles, and with its dated references and cliched characters, although this entry might still be enjoyable, it is one of the less memorable Sam and Max entries.
