After Marsupilami The Secret of the Sarcophagus in 2021, the Ocellus studio is now tackling the Smurfs license, at the request of Microids of course. After taking inspiration from Donkey Kong Country 3 years ago, it was a certain Super Mario 3D World that served as the basis for this epic of dreams, and once again, the result is satisfactory. Whether visually or in its gameplay, everything is done with care and a certain quality. There are even some flashes of brilliance in certain passages, such as the mirror level, the free fall in Tetris mode and the infiltration mission, not to mention these huge bosses to face who are also not lacking in game design ideas. No, really, it's clean and square as they say, even if deep down, it lacks risk-taking and diversity. In the meantime, this Smurfs: Epic Dreams does its job very well and does what is asked of it: a platform game suitable for young and old, playable in cooperation to mix generations, and therefore have a good time.- JeuxActu

The GRID series goes arcade with this new game. A ruthless and less exigent gameplay are proof that GRID 2 places itself between Gran Turismo and Need For Speed, leaning towards the arcade style of EA's title. In spite of a moderately interesting solo mode, mostly ruined by a criminal IA, the games scores back with a very fun multiplayer very old school inspired. The lack of real link between the two modes is actually a strength as one don't need to hit the solo to unlocks stuff in multiplayer. GRID 2 still carries the original's DNA but it focuses on arcade in order to seduce amateurs of racing games that want to avoir the tech malarkey.- JeuxActu

Before you go and buy Dead Rising 3 ask yourself what you expect from the game. If you seek a fun sequel to Dead Rising 2, with some new things, then the game is for you, no hesitations. Still as fun as before and populated with a large number of zombies, it delivers a good dose of action. On the other hand, if you're hoping that this launch title stuns you with it's graphics or revolutionizes the franchise, you will be disappointed because it simply is not the case. If the fun is present, the "wow, that's unseen" effect is clearly missing.- JeuxActu

The only actual problems with Styx come from the fact that it's not a big budget game. Sometimes, we can clearly feel it. But fortunately, the price tag balanced this little glitch and we can honestly say that the quality of the game is not questionable. Open world and very straightforward at the same time, Styx urges us to try different ways, to play the missions several times to discover all of its secrets.- JeuxActu

Unsurprisingly, Lightning Returns : Final Fantasy XIII is like the trilogy it ends: full of appeal but ruined by flaws you can't help to notice. We're speaking about the technical aspect that the ip has stacked since its arrival on PS3 and Xbox 360, which still harms the game and our eyes. We're even more disappointed to see that it ruins the good artistic direction of the game. We also have to mention the difficulty, set on extremely hard in a hope to increase the life of the game. But Lightning returns also has some great features, the 13 days left to Lightning to achieve its mission, and the quests to be achieved give a good rhythm to the title, while the costume system give a true strategic dimention to the fights. Don't miss it and hang on tight.- JeuxActu

Far from being a simple clone of XCOM on which we would have added a Marvel skin, Midnight Suns is a different tactical. Forgetting about XCOM's game mechanics for an interesting card system sets Firaxis apart from other games. And then the fights benefit from rather pretty visual effects, and different interactions with the environment which add a small additional tactical layer.- JeuxActu

Now that we’ve finished Lost Soul Aside, it’s clear that the game is far from the disaster many claimed on social media. After more than twenty hours of play, it’s obvious that Yang Bing’s project (started as a student hobby and later turned into an industrial-scale production with Sony’s support) retains all its passion and identity in its gameplay, even if some peripheral aspects aren’t as polished. At the heart of the game lies its dynamic combat system, rich in possibilities. The four weapons (longsword, greatsword, double spear, and scythe) each offer distinct approaches, which can be combined into fluid, spectacular combos, made accessible through mechanics like perfect parries and the assist system that activates after multiple deaths. The draconic companion Arena adds another strategic and visually impressive dimension, turning battles into true aerial ballets. Yet, the game is not without flaws. The graphics, while generally basic, feel like a previous-generation title, suffering from an uneven and sometimes questionable art direction, as well as occasionally repetitive environments. The storytelling and character charisma are limited, and platforming sections can be frustrating due to the hero’s slightly floaty physics. The English voice acting is also disappointing, making it strongly recommended to stick to the Chinese original or the Japanese voices, which are much better executed. Despite these shortcomings, Lost Soul Aside succeeds where many modern action games fail: it delivers immediate, pure fun, with a gratifying combat system and combos that grow richer as you progress. For fans of fast-paced hack-and-slash, it’s an experience not to be underestimated. Perhaps not worth €70, but definitely closer to €40, let’s be honest.- JeuxActu

Mix between a Walking Simulator and a slightly more gameplay-oriented production, Martha is Dead is a narrative adventure reminiscent of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice for the psychiatric theme, What Remains of Edith Finch for the neat and engaging subject, and the many games horrifying to the gory scenes that we find everywhere. If you are looking for originality with this Assassin's Creed Mirage, you will be disappointed, the game only focusing on the nostalgic fiber and the roots of the license. Less RPG elements, smaller open world, 15/20 hours of gaming maximum, the return of the Middle East and gameplay centered on stealth mechanics, some players will appreciate the return of the old Assassin's Creed philosophy, others will not because the game is less complete, with old school stealth mechanics. Assassin's Creed Mirage is simply Assassin's Creed in the most basic way the formula has to offer. Whereas most of sport games are going next gen (FIFA, NBA 2K, NBA LIVE), others like WWE are aiming at current gen improvements. A nice initiative, and improvements have been made for this WWE 2K14 which display a crazy casting. With over 100 wrestlers in the game, there is material to play for quite some time with that game which also displays better animations. Those are not breathtaking but it has to be mentioned since it's in a transition title. On the graphics side, it's a disappointment, the wrestlers are badly made with ugly textures and a creepy public. Thankfully the ambiance around the ring is pretty neat and largely compensate for technical problems even if those bugs and dated gameplay would require an update. Now that 2K is in the business and has taken the IP, let's hope that next gen games will make this series shine again. It's worth it, and we would like it a lot.- JeuxActu

Forza Horizon is still a safer bet.- JeuxActu

Dragon Ball Z Xenoverse 2 feels more like a big update to the first game than a true sequel, and if the fights are worthy, the MMO side of things feels like a last minute add-on as the empty Cloud City shows.- JeuxActu

On PS5 and Xbox Series X, FIFA 21 enjoys a healthy bump in graphical quality, with a Forstbite engine that's impressive as ever. But outside of this visual improvement, the game hasn't changed, and the same problems are still there.- JeuxActu

If you're a mainstream gamer, we have no reason to recommend Telltale's Game of Throne as it's far from being the best game of the studio. On the other hand if you're a fanatic of R.R. Martin's books you won't regret your purchase as it's better than the HBO series.- JeuxActu

Pokémon Pokopia is a bold spin-off that flips the usual Pokémon formula on its head. No battles, no duels, just a world to rebuild, habitats to create, and Pokémon to hang out with. The game really shines in its creative freedom: you can terraform, build, decorate, and even use Pokémon abilities to shape the world however you like. It’s cozy, easy-going, and instantly fun, especially if you’re creative or younger, and the first few hours are a real blast. The downside? It gets repetitive pretty quickly. The same mechanics repeat from island to island, quests and habitats feel predictable, and there’s not much challenge to keep things exciting. On paper, it’s a refreshing change of pace, but the slow rhythm and repeated tasks can bore players who like a bit more action or progression. For us, the first 10-12 hours were fun, but after that, the next 15 hours started to feel a bit samey.- JeuxActu

More a party game than a real sports game, Nintendo Switch Sports naturally follows in the footsteps of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Club. And it's true that we have fun, as long as we have a few friends at hand and a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online. These two conditions are indeed necessary to have fun over the long term, because the absence of any scripted mode means that solo play has almost no interest.- JeuxActu

The Hong Kong Massacre is a somewhat generic top-down shooter game that's aimed at scoring, as the narrative is pretty bleak, while the action is very repetitive. The only defining feature are the bullet-t-ime and dives that the hero can perform.- JeuxActu

DOOM Eternal still feels great on the go in its Switch version, but of course, you'll have to be ready to make do with sub-par visuals. Thankfully, Panic Button defined the 30 fps framerate as a top priority, which guarantees a playable game at all times, even if the resolution has to dip very low at some times to keep the frames coming. It's blurry, but it's fast.- JeuxActu

Artistically, it is certain that Compulsion Games offers us its finest copy, with a game that constantly flirts with the beautiful and sometimes the sublime, all cradled by a soundtrack as captivating as it is enriching. But if the coating is more than successful, the gameplay proposition is much less so, since South of Midnight languishes in a rather staggering classicism. With its limited and repetitive gameplay loop, the structure of its levels that is far too linear and conventional, disappointing bosses and a bestiary of distressing poverty (there are 6 different enemies during the 15 hours of adventure), we realize that Compulsion Games has favored form over substance. Be careful, it is far from being catastrophic, but there is nothing exciting either, and it is all the more regrettable that certain mechanics, although conventional, manage to work at times. South of Midnight is clearly a game built for Game Pass: it plays well when it's part of the subscription.- JeuxActu

It's not a bad idea to bring some new stuff into the tactical genre. Above all, when it's done by such a talented studio that Intelligent Systems. However, gameplay here is far too irregular to be a new standard. As all their productions, Codename S.T.E.A.M. requires a high level of focus and anticipation to master the battlefield. But we can only regret the lack of attention towards writing, background and visuals.- JeuxActu

Six years after the last LittleBigPlanet, the IP comes back as Sackboy A Big Adventure, but the game isn't as good as its legacy would lead us to believe. While being full of good features and clever ideas, Elite Dangerous feels like its release has been rushed in order to get ahead of Star Citizen. The games lack player interactions and the happenings have very little impact on the gameplay, maybe the humongous 400 billion systems map should have been scaled to the numbers of players. As a DC Comics crossover game, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is quiet fun to play like the previous title of the IP developed by TT Games. Even if the usual weaknesses remain, the title brings interesting features like full dialogues that offer a pleasant experience in the series, sometimes to the detriment of humor. Finally, the open-world universe lets players discover Gotham City, LEGO-style, despite some problems with camera positions and characters that happen to be stuck into walls.- JeuxActu

Casual players won't clearly be amazed by the graphics offered by Game of Thrones. As regards the RPG players, the ones that could spend entire nights playing, they will be happy to find intuitive game mechanics. The tactical aspects of fight sequences are also really enjoyable to learn and the players' choice are well-embedded in the story, faithful to the saga. This is what truly matters.- JeuxActu
