FIFA 14 is a fun game and will appeal to football fans as the classic style of gameplay, aside from the frenetic tempo of the matches, largely remain and snatching victory from the jaws of defeat still tastes as sweet as ever; it’s just a shame that it all feels so familiar.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is the high point of the series, simply because it polishes the Luigi's Mansion formula to a shine.

Activision has expanded on the original DJ Hero game and even though some parts have been streamlined, it does not limit the gameplay whatsoever. The empire mode is a fun way to learn the ropes of the game and it gives you some incentive to complete the game but best of all, the track listing is truly sensational and as they were more mainstream than the original, I enjoyed them quite more.

Ultimately, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an odd combination between Skyrim, Elden Ring, and Tears of the Kingdom that scratches a very unique itch. It might not be for everyone, but it’s certainly for someone, and it’ll be exciting to see what kind of DLC Capcom have planned for it.

Armored Core VI is a highly enjoyable game, especially for mecha heads and sci-fi fanatics. While I wish the story got a lot more attention, the game does a great job of reintroducing old fans while not alienating new players.

Although Activision doesn’t reinvent the wheel with Guitar Hero 5, it thankfully doesn’t try to be clever with the franchise, ensuring that old users will find enough in this program for a worthy purchase.

Mullet Madjack is a fast and furious roguelike FPS that scratches that just one more go itch perfectly. It’s tight time limits and hair trigger blasting are as exhilarating as they are challenging, while it’s retro sheen, cyberpunk aesthetics and gleeful anti capitalist message make it all the more charming.

The Taken King is a solid package offering several more hours of fun, engaging new gameplay.

The core gameplay loop is definitely not for everyone but the rewards for persisting are well worth pursuing here. The gunplay and movement feels absolutely divine and the “one more run” approach to the gameplay is certainly addictive and unique amongst larger budgeted titles.

Forza Motorsport 7 aims high and thankfully delivers one of the best racers for 2017. The content is exceptional, the gameplay mechanics almost perfect and the graphics are just a true treat for any gamer. Add in the insane amount of cars and tracks and Forza Motorsport 7 is worth every penny and is the game that keeps on giving.

Improvements have been made and it is still the biggest, most detailed football simulation out there. You will lose months of your life over it, cursing to yourself over trivial things such as substituting your left back too early. It is a beautiful game for the beautiful game.

Cyberpunk gets a lot of hate for it's development process. But it's truly a stellar game with some release bugs. It just needs a little spit and polish.

Xenoblade Chronicles is a game that ticks all the right boxes.

Cairn stands out as a gripping grounded climbing experience. It is demanding without feeling unfair striking without softening its edges and honest in its portrayal of a woman trying to outrun the life she left behind. Whether on PC or Steam Deck this is a climb that stays with you long after you return to base, particularly the metaphysical ending.

I expected more from the graphics upgrade after comparing Twilight Princess HD to 2013’s Wind Waker HD, but this version of the game stands to prove that even ten years on, the game holds up well.

F1 2021 is a continuation of simple, consistent and well oiled machine that it has done best. Falling short in the same areas it has always done, but scoring perfect points where it matters.

Cadence of Hyrule manages to elegantly combine Crypt of the Necrodancer’s unique rhythm-based combat and procedurally generated level design with The Legend of Zelda’s grandiose open world adventuring to create a remarkably unique experience. The combat may be difficult for some to grasp and the puzzles are a little lacking, but overall Cadence of Hyrule is a fun, compelling adventure that should not be missed.

Monster Hunter Generations successfully captures what made this series so great and then amplifies it on the 3DS!

The new style and direction of the Splinter Cell franchise may not thrill all the fans out there, but it's a fact, that this was a much needed bold fresh adrenaline jolt.

Come for the puzzles stay for the philosophy.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is an enjoyable classic RPG on the 3DS with a few 21st century mechanics thrown into the pot. I like how it has been ported to the 3DS as it works on all levels from not just the control system but how the game plays out. It’s the perfect title for this console as it allows you to get lost in this world for either quick or long gaming sessions. Fighting is a challenge, creating items is easy and all in all, it’s a game that has been tailored for lovers of role-playing games.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a special game and a rare beast in the current console generation. A traditional Japanese RPG with a deep and rewarding gameplay experience with a level of polish reserved for the biggest of franchises. Even if level grinding and monster catching is outside your comfort level, this game is worth checking out. Once you spend a few hours with Oliver, Mr. Drippy and his friends you will not be able to put Ni No Kuni down.

UFC 2010 Undisputed is easily one of the world's most realistic fighting games that offers great replay value, sturdy combat engine and an overall entertaining experience that is oozing with UFC references from start to finish!

It is an intuitive, beautiful and enjoyable experience and I would recommend this to all RTS players looking for something on the iPad.

I personally love the game, the aesthetic it presents and the quirks of the characters and the little things you can find throughout that inject a bit of humour. If you are a fan of Fallout then I highly recommend Wasteland 3.

In the end, The Sly Trilogy is a must have game for those that enjoyed this title on the PS2 or for those looking for a traditional arcade game without too much fluff.

In conclusion, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars is definitely one of the better fighting games on the Wii and even though it's old school, the old analogy of if it isn't broke, don't fix it works perfect with this title.

Master Lemon: The Quest for Iceland turns a deeply personal tribute into a meaningful adventure, where every new word shapes how you see and interact with the world.

If you’re looking for something to fill the gap between the inevitable current gen iteration of the Borderlands franchise, albeit with a much stronger focus on characterisation and story, then Tales from the Borderlands will more than satisfy your desire.

Super Mario Bros Wonder was a return to greatness on the OG Switch and with its performance tweaks and incorporation of new multiplayer excitement thanks to Meetup in Bellabel Park, this is a must have game if you missed it the first time around.

A charming, modern take on a classic style of Zelda. Zelda is able to carry the weight of main character like the strong Princess she is. Now it's Link's turn to be the damsel!

Would I recommend Gorn… absolutely… but don’t blame me for any damages!… seriously… be very careful!

This isn’t rocket science… it’s not a deep thinking game or even strictly all that imaginative… but it is a lot of stupid fun! The thumping beat that has been added to modernize it certainly helps there and does it’s part in building the excitement.

An occasionally subtle, but nevertheless substantial upgrade to the original Horizon Zero Dawn that, while I don't necessarily think it's an upgrade that needed to be made, I'm glad it was.

Brutal combat, irreverent humour, and a smorgasbord of content make Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut one of the best launch titles on the Switch 2, and also the best way to play one of the best entries in the long-running series. If you haven’t visited the weird and wonderful world of Yakuza before, and a need to play something on it other than Mario Kart World, you have no excuse.

Even though the 3D can be frustrating at times, it does add a new element to one of the best fighter franchises in the world

If you’ve been tempted to try Helldivers 2, regardless of whether you opt for the new Xbox version or not. Now is a great time to dive in. Player counts are way up, and there are tons of players, both new and old, to team up with and drive back the enemies of managed democracy. It certainly needs to rein in the paid content, or, at the very least, make it easier to obtain for players who don’t have more than $100 to drop on extra gear, but at its core, there’s still a fantastic cooperative experience full of satisfying firefights and huge explosions. Did I mention the explosions?

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age is great. It was great in 2017 on the PS4. It’s greater now on the Switch. It looks amazing and the frame rate is consistent in the dock and in handheld. The price point is an issue. A port of a game more than a decade old should not cost the same as a full price Triple A new release title. There are indie games on the Nintendo Shop that are amazing for only a fraction of the price. Hell the original PS4 version of the Zodiac Age can be found in most stores of $25 and it is ostensibly the same game. If you can find a copy on sale, it is an essential title to add to your Switch library.

For 2013, Bravely Default is easily the best RPG of the year that will keep fans of this genre extremely happy as they join these characters in their fight for freedom.

As a Star Wars game, Survivor has some very big boots to fill and given the lore contained in this universe and fan expectations, I can safely report that it successfully expands on the first game and on the PlayStation 5 delivers a true next-gen experience. Sure there are a few slight gameplay glitches here and there, however as a whole it is a very polished game from its fine-tuned gaming mechanics, Star Wars inspired graphics, wonderful narrative and characters, including the music, sound effects and voice acting, In the end, Respawn Entertainment efficaciously draw you into the character of Cal Kestis as you fight the good fight to keep the “dark side” at bay. As a long-time Star Wars fan, this is the droid game you’re looking for… and yes Jedi mind tricks are totally part of the game!

Doom is back on next-gen consoles and it's definitely a worthy reboot in every sense!

In conclusion, this is not your father’s real-time strategy but provides an interesting twist to the genre without the complexities of micromanagement.

Battlefield 3 is not that greatest game but rather, it's a very good game and although the single player campaign is a little dull in terms of story, there are some stellar moments in it to help get you through to the finish line and actually make you crave more. This is where the multiplayer aspect comes into play, especially with its realistic warzones and elements of Hollywood to make it bigger than life. With co-op missions, leaderboards and some great vehicles, Battlefield 3 is a definite must have for any first person shooter fan!

If you’ve enjoyed adventure games before then you will enjoy this… if you haven’t really given adventure games a go, this is a great one to see just how well they can be made. There are quite a lot of laughs and the production quality is high… for the price you really can’t go wrong. Stick a balloon to your head or grab a 90’s metal band wig and get ready to drop some beats… go play Paradigm!

With next generation graphics, brilliant gameplay and a story that actually makes you care, Red Faction: Guerrilla is an almost perfect game that takes us back to those classic games of the 90’s, however with modern soul and essence.

It's a game of stats; it's a game of numbers, and lots of information. It also gives history and quotes from players and baseball personalities throughout the history of the game. If you have a passing interest in the game of baseball this series may not be for you. For those baseball fans, those real baseball fans, if you have not discovered this franchise yet, then you are in for a real treat indeed.

Unlike many of its siblings, Final Fantasy XV is not really about empires or kings. It isn’t about magic or monsters—or even really about people. Final Fantasy XV is about four friends, the bond they share, and the power that such friendships have to improve the world.

Granted the story is shallow at times, and the characters are the standard stereo types, the game on the other hand visually looks spectacular. The good things far outweigh the bad here.

If you missed this game on the previous consoles, now is the perfect time to buy as it contains everything plus RTX and more importantly, it is a fantastic story that draws you in and drives you on. If you are a fan of The X-Files or similar genre shows, material… I have no doubt you will enjoy this. An exceptional job from the whole team!

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a curious beast. A remaster masquerading as a remake. The updated graphics and change of perspective help the underlying game continue to shine, but you can’t help wondering what the point of it is. Even more so when you consider that Konami released a port of Snake Eater for modern consoles just under two years ago. In many ways, it feels like a test for the other remakes that may inevitably follow. The original Metal Gear Solid will no doubt take a lot more work to bring it up to date than Snake Eater. A game that still holds up spectacularly despite its age, because it was very much ahead of its time.

Frostpunk 2 is a fantastic sequel to the original game. The shift to a wider focus rather than staying at the macro level might not be to everyone’s tastes, but I rather enjoyed the push to bigger and more expansive lands.

Ultimately, RoadCraft succeeds by doing something rare in today’s crowded gaming market—it delivers a unique, heartfelt experience grounded in tactile realism and purposeful gameplay. It offers a refreshing break from high-octane shooters and competitive multiplayer arenas, asking instead: “What will you build, and how will you get there?” Whether you’re a fan of simulation games, a lover of heavy machinery, or someone simply looking for a unique and immersive co-op experience, RoadCraft delivers in spades. It may not be flashy or fast-paced, but it’s thoughtful, deeply rewarding, and unlike anything else currently available on Xbox Series X.

Horizon is possibly one of the best open world racers available.

Origins successfully adds to the franchise of Assassin’s Creed by delivering something fresh yet similar. It plays like a treat on the Xbox One X and thanks to the 4K graphics is easily one of the most immersive titles as you explore Ancient Egypt and its connecting lands.

Batman: Arkham Shadow is a real achievement for the team at Camouflaj and a milestone in VR superhero games. With a reach story, challenging yet seamlessly coordinated combat, and decent stealth scenarios, Batman: Arkham Shadow is the perfect place to feel truly in the cape crusader’s cowls.

Final Fantasy IX is an easy recommend for fans of classic JRPGs and should prove to serve as a reminder that, despite the pitfalls the series has navigated through the years, there was a reason why Final Fantasy was once the undisputed king of roleplaying games.

The game is a bit pricey (when I just checked it was around $114AU) but it is a fantastic story that draws you in and drives you on. If you are a fan of The X-Files or similar genre shows, material… I have no doubt you will enjoy this. An exceptional job from the whole team!

Fun, cheap and it'll last you hours, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge Special Edition is worth the outlay.

Assassin's Creed 3 is a carefully crafted game that does border on perfect in terms of this franchise. The new protagonists are interesting and more importantly, the story and gameplay flows together perfectly. For some reason, the story in AC3 is easily the most compelling of the lot and even when you're finished, you could easily play the game again. Add in a sturdy multiplayer mode and Assassin's Creed 3 is a must have game to get you through to Christmas.

Capcom digs into their past to pave the way for their future, taking the tight gameplay experiences of their PS2 era games with a fresh new hook.

Mario, Link, Pikachu, Pac-Man, Sonic, Kirby and more come together in a game where they all beat each other up.

Definitely one of the better casual games of 2009!

All in all, a package that includes one of the PS2’s best games and a high point in the Final Fantasy franchise with the bonus of its pleasantly solid sequel is one that shouldn’t be missed.

PES 2017 is rewarding, intriguing and exhilarating. Quite simply, the beautiful game has never been more beautiful.

The Outer Worlds is one of the most enjoyable games of 2019 and if you love RPG’s, this game ticks all the right boxes. Excellent gameplay, albeit slightly repetitive, brilliant world-building and graphics/audio to die for, The Outer Worlds should definitely be on your gaming radar!

The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood is an amazing visual novel that will leave you with some existential questions to ponder.

It might not reinvent the wheel, but as a successor to an already near-perfect Advance Wars-like, did it ever really need to?

Death Howl blends tactical grid combat with deep deck customization inside a myth soaked world shaped by loss. Each encounter feels like a carefully constructed puzzle where preparation and positioning matter as much as raw power. It is demanding and deliberate, but for those willing to engage with its systems, it delivers a striking and emotionally grounded strategy experience.

CrossWorlds crashes onto Switch 2 with a version capable of challenging Mario's karting crown.

If there is only one game you buy all year than Oceanhorn should be it, especially if you love those classic Nintendo adventure games.

While obviously not without its flaws, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is one of the stronger, albeit more obscure, JRPG offerings to hit the PS4 this year.

Nioh 2 is an fast, frantic and fluid action-RPG experience that will appeal to fans of Code Vein, Dark Souls and Sekiro for its intricate combat and role-playing systems, extensive character customisation and striking historic fantasy Japanese setting. While the storytelling for the main narrative mostly falls flat and is confusing to follow, the rest of the package more than holds up against its predecessor. The game presents a great challenge for those willing to put in the time to master its numerous playstyles it caters, so it might not be a great fit for those seeking a more casual adventure – but it’s definitely recommended for fans of the first game looking for greater refinement and newbies looking for their next great RPG.

Witcher 3 for the Switch is a technological masterpiece but at a serious graphical cost. Still, the ability to play a solid, portable version of one of the best games of the modern era is worth the sacrifice.

My only gripe is the absolute bare bones quality of this release; sure, you get two pretty awesome, albeit relatively short, titles for a bargain basement price, but it would have been nice to have had a few extra bones thrown in for fans to gnaw on… Hell, I’d have even accepted the inclusion of the cheesy as Chester Cheetah’s balls ‘Bayonetta’ anime but, alas, there’s nothing of the sort. Still, this bundle is a pretty easy recommend for fans of Japanese action games and is a good way for fans of PlatinumGames’ more recent work to get a little bit of insight into the early days of the studio.

While never straying very far from the ideas of its predecessor, Octopath Traveler II improves upon every aspect of that already great game and ends up being one of the best JRPGs I’ve ever played.

TellTale Games hits it again with interactive story gaming.

I would say that Far Cry 2 is a well put together game that will be giving players hours of gaming fun for along while.

The graphics are beautiful, with a familiar 1950s sci-fi look to all the ships and the limited sound effects and music complement this feel. There are loads of levels of alien blasting fun, several satellites and enemies to discover, brilliant cuts scenes – It's just a whole lot of ludicrous amusement and at just a few dollars, this is one game that I would gladly recommend.

For a modern warfare game, Bulge sacrifices rule complexity for accessibility. This means it can be mastered after a few games.

Yakuza 0 starts 2017 with a very enjoyable gaming experience that takes elements from a variety of genres and then blends them together like some Iron Chef of gaming!

Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is a true achievement for Nintendo’s new Switch 2 that will pave the path for more next-gen AAA titles on this console. The game not only looks great but plays exceptionally well and being able to play Cyberpunk 2077 on the go is worth the admission price of Night City!

A much more cohesive experience overall this time around, Destiny 2 may not be all that big of an evolution over the core elements of the first game but Bungie have trimmed the fat and refined the foundation in order to give its target demographic exactly what they want.

A delightful mashup that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Even though Nintendo have used this formula for their latest Mario Kart game, they have added enough changes and tweaks plus the inclusion of 3D to truly make this title stand out from its predecessors. Gaming mechanics are strong and the controls work perfectly on the 3DS, although the gyroscope is a little iffy.

Halo the Master Chief Collection is the definitive version of this amazing series that plays and looks amazingly on the XBox One.

I was asked recently if I thought someone should but the game or wait for a sale. It’s somewhat a tough choice because the story is definitely worth it… if it was a movie I would say add it to your collection without hesitation (and this episode has some stunning use of lighting that really revs up that cinema feel).

Play Assault Android Cactus and revel in its satisfying action, adorable characters, and somehow exciting-yet-calming soundtrack.

For newcomers to the series, Darksiders II provides a satisfying gaming experience on the Nintendo Wii U. With fun gameplay and lots of challenges to be found along the way, the only thing holding back the title is the frame rate and loading times that can sometimes be an issue. However most of these can be forgiven, especially when you are finding new weapons and powers as you search the land for a way to vindicate your brother.
