It's still hard to find anything bad to say about the game itself. Of course, re-releasing a title that already worked perfectly fine in first place is somewhat pointless. On the other hand, if the great source material gets a new audience this way, so be it. Especially first-time platforming fans, go shopping.

This definitive edition elevates a stellar platformer into a masterpiece through flawless 4K visuals and substantial content additions. New characters and the chaotic Belabel Park attractions significantly enhance the multiplayer suite, yet lackluster decoration rewards and restrictive online room requirements slightly dampen the brilliance of this otherwise essential expansion.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park is a great upgrade to the original game if you’re going to take advantage of the multiplayer modes, but it is far less essential if you’re mostly a solo player. There are some nice additions for the main campaign, but the £17 price point feels excessive without party play. Taken as a complete package, however, this makes the already fantastic game even more wonderful and addresses most of the issues that we had with it.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition enhances an already brilliant platformer with sharp 4K visuals, smoother performance and extra content that makes the experience feel fresh again. The core gameplay remains excellent, with creative level design, clever Badge mechanics and the charm that defines Nintendo’s best work. The new Belabel Park expansion and Rosalina’s addition bring fun new ways to play, especially in multiplayer, though some reused content makes the expansion feel less essential for returning players. Even so, for newcomers this is easily the definitive version of one of the best modern platformers.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder + Meetup in Bellabel Park remains a wonderful platformer. Its colorful playfulness bursts off the screen, and the levels remain remarkably inventive. It's a shame this expansion doesn't include more single-player content, but even if the minigames do nothing for you, there's still plenty to enjoy in Bellabel Park. Now it's time to wait for a truly new 2D Mario.

Meetup at Bellabel is a fantastic expansion to an otherwise fantastic game, the problems present tehmselves when some of the content is unavailable at all if you don't have friends to play co-op levels with or worse, have only one Switch console to play with.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is still one of the finest 2D platformers in recent memory, so there's still that going for this upgrade and pack, but at the same time, if you can save yourself close to £20 and simply buy the base game and leave it at that, I wouldn't discourage doing so, as Meetup in Bellabel Park and the Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade is simply not must-have content.
