FoxyLand does not try to reach new heights, it's a simple platformer that's not afraid to present itself as such and it's a competent game at what it does. While it may please those looking for a quick experience, its lack of depth, short lifespan and simplistic nature makes it less enjoyable on a longer term basis and those looking for a more involving experience should take their expectations elsewhere.

The Wii U’s version of 99 Seconds brings some improvements compared to its predecessor but overall, this remains a very simple and short game. The differences do not make it a significantly outstanding game and the result is an average work which is challenging enough, given its difficulty level, but far from setting a new benchmark in the genre.

While there are some improvements over the original, and including an online multiplayer is worthy of praise, too little was made to bring the game to our day and age. As such, there are many elements that clearly belong to the day of the original release, as well as to another format and which don't fit with the expectations of players, namely its controls and performance.

Color Symphony 2 tries to stand out amongst the Wii U's eShop platformers with a concept that goes beyond similar games but the result ends up being a repetitive game whose difficulty curve is way too steep for newcomers and veterans alike. While its art style is pleasant and the gameplay mechanics should be praised for pushing it beyond the usual, Color Symphony 2 takes it a bit too far and will fall out with both the casual audience and the more dedicated players.

Save me Mr. Tako! has all the elements to appeal to its target audience, namely those who are looking for an experience reminiscent of games made for the Game Boy. GODS Remastered does one job well: it recreates the experience of the original GODS. It also does one job less well: it recreates the experience of the original GODS…without gameplay improvements. After nearly thirty years, the gameplay has advanced very little and while the level design is commendable for its intricate and demanding nature, the gameplay makes this game more cumbersome than it should be, especially for less experienced players.

The Wardrobe is a point and click game that features a simple and pleasant visual style with a plot that will stand out for its peculiar humor. While its gameplay mechanics are simple and the game has no major flaws, it quickly starts becoming rather empty in its purpose. A blessing for bringing the original two games with the option of playing with the original art style, the soundtrack, plot and most aspects of its gameplay. Othello for Nintendo Switch is a digital version of the long-running board game also known as Reversi and is entirely faithful to the original, in the sense that it is simple to learn and perfectly enjoyable for short gaming sessions. FullBlast is a 2D shoot'em up that treads along some of the traditional clichés of the genre without taking any risks to go further or to stand above its peers. Similar enemy patterns, repetitive behaviour, plain visuals, FullBlast can deliver a fluid gameplay experience but not a varied, original one, with a small redemption coming from its local multiplayer element.

Henry the Hamster is a long and challenging game, which thanks to its effective control system and mitigating circumstances that prevent the feeling of repetitiveness ends up scoring well in the entertainment scale. Alas it's affected by an audio environment which needed some work, particularly as the sound is so important to let the player know how to act.

Heroes Trials draws heavily from some of the most iconic adventure game classics but despite its rather innovative plot and open world exploration, it doesn't really bring anything new to the panorama. Add to that a certain lack of challenge, an uninspired art style and a sub-par level design and the result is a passable effort that doesn't stand out in the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

AeternoBlade gets several points of the videogames textbook right but it doesn't go beyond that, almost as if the skeleton was enough to give a soul to a body. While technically competent, though far from impressive, this game offers very little to those already familiar with both action games and RPGs. Add to that a painstaking navigation through the off-play menus, and here's the formula for an overwhelmingly disappointing and frustrating experience.

While Discovery boasts an enormous map and plenty of available resources, it suffers from a lack of originality and pales next to Minecraft. The game is also affected by several technical flaws and the lack of an online mode makes it less appealing, despite a competent local co-op multiplayer and an overall good presentation.

From a game with this ambition, it's expected that the plot will be engaging and interesting but that's not the case with SELF. Rather, its soundtrack stands out the most and it's well worth listening to. Overall, SELF is a strange experience, one that may be worth a try but for which expectations shouldn't be too high.

The rollercoaster genre hasn't stood out in the last 9 years and it's not Coaster Creator 3D that will change the way things are looking. While the roller coaster editor is very varied and ambitious, the game is not properly constructed and all its (older) PC counterparts are still more attractive options for anyone looking to build and ride roller coasters.

Dementium Remastered has all the technical qualities to be a good remake...except being an outstanding game. While the visual and audio environments are competent and well implemented, the game loses most of its appeal compared to the original and ends up as a generic title that brings nothing significant to the 3DS library.

Monopoly for Nintendo Switch is an accurate representation of the famous board game and this version can be played either by just one or up to six players and even if it doesn't add anything new to the formula, it can still be make for an interesting time. Unfortunately an unexplainable error leads to enormous loading times which seriously harm the experience and for which there is no excuse on a game with this price.

Ritual: Crown of Horns is a twin stick shoot'em up with a zany plot, a decent gameplay mechanic and an exceedingly high difficulty level that will often have players trying over again and again. The frantic action pace somehow mitigates the game's sense of repetitiveness but a better looking visual environment would be very welcome in a production that is more likely to appeal to longtime fans of shoot'em ups than to the greater public.

Timber Tennis: Versus is not a tennis simulator to be taken seriously, instead it's a simple game of simple mechanics and with a simple price tag, where the little fun that is on offer is quickly overtaken by the shallow gameplay and dearth of content, not to mention the absence of other players in its online component.

99Moves offers a moderately appealing concept but it is overall lacking on content, even for a title of its price. This is aggravated by a graphical environment that is too simplistic and an annoying soundtrack, which don’t really help with a game that is already too limited in its experience.

If it does a good job at delivering a credible MSX experience, Bitlogic also falls behind when it comes to its low ambition, a concept that will hardly catch the attention of most players and a short longevity. While it's a good option for those who want to (re)live the days of the MSX, it's not a game made for a wider audience.

Asterix & Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir does a good job at capturing the classic spirit and humour of the comic book series, thanks to its fun dialogues and well polished visual environment, adding to that a marvelous vocal work. Where The Crystal Menhir does not live up to the highest standards is when it comes to its repetitive structure and mechanics, its drab plot and too simplistic gameplay. For players looking for a simple brawler and puzzler experience with the visual environment of the series, The Crystal Menhir is a good option, but for anyone looking for a more in-depth game, it's better to look elsewhere.

Runbow Pocket for the New 3DS is certainly full of content and its levels are fun and compelling, like they were on the Wii U original. Where Runbow Pocket doesn't stand out is when it comes to comparing itself to the original game, as this handheld version doesn't offer any major incentives to the players and the lack of a local multiplayer mode is very difficult to understand.

Seal the Deal does not revolutionize A Hat in Time and as a DLC, it's very short and its additional difficulty level doesn't always feel like it improves the experience. On the other hand, this DLC can be seen as a gift for Nintendo Switch players who so patiently waited for it, so on that note Seal the Deal is a welcome addition and should not be judged too harshly.
