As beautiful to play as the first Horizon Zero Dawn, as beautiful to look at as the latest Horizon Forbidden West. This is how you can sum up this Remastered, which keeps the gameplay of the original intact while increasing the graphic rendering thanks to the greater hardware resources available. In particular, Aloy and the other characters are now much more expressive and move in a world in which nature is lush and the anthropic structures stand out solemnly among volumetric effects with a realistic day/night cycle. Those who have recently played the original may not want to spend another forty hours on the Remastered, for newcomers it is one of the best ARPGs around.- The Games Machine

Yakuza 0 is still one of the best action games ever made, a game with a deep narrative, an exceptional cast, and a gameplay that is as multifaceted as few others. The Director’s Cut version for Switch 2 improves on the original in every single aspect, elevating its technical element and adding more “meat” around the bone with a new multiplayer mode.- The Games Machine

Overall, Pillars of Eternity on PlayStation 4 is a good porting of an excellent RPG, very complex and deep. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a good second chapter but those who expected a sequel better than the predecessor may be slightly disappointed. Unfortunately, in the face of many well-structured innovations related to the fighting styles and puzzles scattered in the game worlds, there are also some far from negligible smudges such as a plot all too devoted to fanservice and an excessive amount of secondary content. However, the one packaged by Respawn and Electronic Arts is a more than satisfactory action video game, with solid gameplay and a first-rate artistic / graphic sector.- The Games Machine

Starfield is for cautious and patient explorers, not for those who want it all at once. The incipit of the story is rather bland, the sense of estrangement at the highest levels. But as the fog thins out, all its potential and the free will left to the player are understood and appreciated, who really has a thousand things to do as he wants and when he prefers, perhaps leaving the continuation of a mission to better times (and stats). On the other hand, the slowness of the movements on the ground and the small design defects have their weight and, albeit reluctantly, they must be taken into account in the global assessment, which remains high in anticipation of future developments. Maybe a few more weeks of playtesting would help.- The Games Machine

Control: Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 5 is a real treat. Doom: The Dark Ages is an exciting evolution of the franchise, capable of impressing with its more structured narrative approach and gameplay innovations, without losing the brutal, metallic identity that has always distinguished the saga. The new multifunctional shield and the redesign of the fights give the combat considerable depth, while exploration is finally rewarded with huge areas overflowing with secrets. However, some of the more spectacular sections (such as those aboard the mecha) feel isolated and unimpressive, and the absence of a multiplayer mode - though perhaps justified - remains a missed opportunity to extend the longevity beyond the solid campaign.- The Games Machine

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales certainly does not reinvent the original work, but manages to tell a particularly intense story by introducing and deepening an extremely positive character with a compelling personality. More compact than Peter Parker's adventure, with an elegantly told political subtext and a warm family dimension that you’re going to want to protect at any cost, Insomniac’s game also showcases what PS5 has to offer from a technical point of view, with an impressive lighting system that benefits greatly from Ray Tracing and a world that loads in an instant thanks to the new and powerful SSD, which virtually eliminates pop-ups, while also allowing incredibly fluid action, a great sense of scale and an absolutely breathtaking overall visual impact. Some repetitive secondary missions and not particularly exciting environmental puzzles dampen the rhythm a bit here and there, but at the same time the game does not lack incredible scenes, both scenographically and emotionally. A very good stand alone episode, a must for those who loved the Marvel’s Spider-Man, and a great appetizer for a more than likely sequel.- The Games Machine

Solium Infernum is a turn-based strategy game dedicated to board game lovers, with a highly evocative setting that opens the door to epic battles between hordes of demons. Although there is no shortage of clashes, the lion's share of the action belongs to the managerial component, with very meticulous management of the diplomatic issues. Difficulty and duration of the matches are largely customizable, but always with a specific target of players in mind, which is certainly not the casual audience. One of the best representatives of its genre, whose only glaring flaw lies in the Archdemons' miniatures, which are really too amateurish.- The Games Machine

Out of Hands is imperfect and perfect at the same time, uncomfortable on purpose, but above all deeply fascinating. It is a narrative experiment disguised as a deck-builder, which finds in surreal exposition and dreamlike narration a very strong identity and, for this reason, is not suitable for everyone. It does not revolutionize the deck-builder game genre, but it can be unforgettable for those who love unique experiences that leave a strange feeling, like those disturbing dreams of which in the morning you only remember a few fragments.- The Games Machine

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is a valid sequel that shares its predecessor’s compelling setting and some of its characters, while also introducing new mechanics. Nioh 3 is a conscious and surprisingly ambitious evolution. Team Ninja chose not to abandon the identity built over time, preferring to refine and expand upon it with ideas that deeply impact the rhythm and structure of the experience. The new duality between samurai and ninja is a systemic addition that enriches the combat system like never before, making it freer, more creative, and more layered, without sacrificing the technical and punishing soul that has always distinguished the series. The open maps, while not groundbreaking, finally give breathing room to a progression that was more mechanical in the past, transforming grinding into exploration and repetition into discovery. Certainly, the recycling of assets and an activity structure that feels somewhat dated prevent the game from reaching truly memorable heights in terms of wonder and presentation, but these limitations weigh less than one might expect, thanks to a constant sense of growth and a consistently rewarding reward system. A title that demands a lot from the player in terms of attention, study, and dedication, but gives back just as much to those willing to embrace its complexity: undoubtedly the most complete, mature, and satisfying Nioh ever made.- The Games Machine

Stasis: Bone Totem is a point-and-click graphic adventure that exploits the classic mechanics of the genre in a modern and appealing technical setting, although the game was made almost entirely by only two people. Its strength lies in its horror-tinged sci-fi atmospheres and in its narrative which presents interesting reflections on ethics and corporations. Skate Story offers an original approach to skateboarding, using it as a tool for movement and combat rather than a purely athletic discipline. The physics are solid and accurately convey weight and inertia, while the controls are responsive and accessible, allowing players to chain together tricks and combos without excessive technical barriers. The boss fight system, based on speed and scoring, works well and enhances the gameplay. However, the level design remains cautious: the routes offer few opportunities for creative experimentation, board customization is superficial, and the quests, while clear in their objectives, sometimes feel like simple gameplay pretexts rather than genuine storytelling progressions.- The Games Machine

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster reintroduces the legendary mix of first person shooter, survival horror and role-playing game. It offers a large map to explore, full of interconnected paths and dangers to eliminate with weapons, psionic powers and hacking techniques. The research system adds tactical depth, allowing you to analyze enemies in order to increase their vulnerability. On the technical side, the remaster enhances the experience of the original with targeted refinements such as updated resolution, mod support, fifty achievements and cross-play co-op modes. The magic that made the game a cornerstone is still alive, even if some gameplay mechanics are starting to show their age.- The Games Machine

If you already devoted a conspicuous amount of time on the previous game in the series, you'll have to be patient, and wait for the real fun to begin, since all the new (and good) stuff is carefully handed out bit by bit. Therefore, we recommend Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon only if you skipped the previous two titles. Or if you have a bone to pick with Necrozma.- The Games Machine

Shin Megami Tensei V manages to improve on a supposedly perfect combat system by introducing new options that offer a welcome extra level of complexity. The storyline is a little less convoluted than usual, and the graphics engine struggles at times, but the end result is a truly impossible-to-drop RPG and one of the most successful exponents of the genre on Switch.- The Games Machine

Octopath Traveler 0 is not only an ambitious bridge between past and present, but Square Enix's most mature attempt to reconcile the mobile nature of the original project with the expectations of a JRPG for home consoles. Its monumental structure, the dark, melodramatic, and uncompromising narrative, and the richness of its strategic mechanics deliver an experience that, while stemming from a gacha title, manages to establish itself as an authentic and significant chapter in the series. It's a long, at times challenging journey that requires patience and dedication, but one that rewards with a sense of growth, community, and discovery that is rare even in the modern landscape of the genre. Octopath Traveler continues to represent one of the most consistent and passionate interpretations of the classic JRPG.- The Games Machine

F1 2021 incorporates (and improves) all the features of the previous F1 games developed by Codemasters. Driving is fun and can be adapted to suit both newbies and those looking for a sufficiently complex experience, although players who look for a full simulation might be slightly disappointed. Game modes are numerous, varied and well structured. Both those who love to run alone and those who prefer to compete with (or against) other players will find something that will keep them busy for months.- The Games Machine

The Journey and the Frostbite engine are the two big innovations of FIFA 17. The game is enjoyable in most of the offline modes; conversely, if you are a multiplayer gamer you should beware of the excessive use of skill moves and dribblings from other players, too often decisive in the economy of the matches.- The Games Machine

The Case of the Golden Idol is an excellent debut. Color Gray has learned the lesson of Return of the Obra Dinn and reinterpreted it with its own style. The cases to be solved are well thought out and to come to grips with puzzles that require deduction and intelligence rather than skill with the classic mechanics of the genre is quite satisfying. The Latvian developer duo in his first game shows they have personality, including in the graphic style that does not mind being disturbing and in the appropriate background music, all of which conveniently mystery-themed.- The Games Machine

It’s hard to say if What the Golf? is crazier or funnier. This game made by five guys from Denmark rebuilt the concept of golf using cows, furniture and gravity in a bunch of mini-levels that never stop to amaze. I really can’t remember a game leaving me in awe every 15 seconds, only thanks of the lovable absurdity of the ideas it introduces.- The Games Machine

Albeit some polishing issues and some questionable design choices, Salt and Sanctuary is a nice, bidimensional variation of the "souls-like" formula, with influences from Hidetaka Miyazaki and from the metroidvania genre. If you like a challenging, punishing yet rewarding experience, you should definitely give it a try.- The Games Machine

Like a Formula 1 car, Forza Motorsport has quite radically rethought its set-up to reduce the gap to its rivals. The new career introduces RPG components designed to increase the bond between the player and their vehicles: the fleet of vehicles is still large, but the focus has shifted to the customization of performances. The manual calibration of difficulty and aids makes it suitable for any type of player, offering in any case an intriguing challenge thanks to the AI of the drivatars. Visually it's impressive, but there's still something missing to match the realism of GT.- The Games Machine

The Castlevania Advance Collection is a fine piece of game preservation, collecting three good games and a half-assed dud thrown in for good measure. Joking aside, the games haven't aged as well as the NDS trilogy, but put together they make a must-have package for fans of the Belmont family.- The Games Machine

Blasphemous 2 is the maximum evolution of a video game that, in the past, mildly surprised the critics but entered the hearts of the players. If with the first chapter there was a lot, perhaps too much uncertainty, the second iteration of the franchise has instead totally evolved the entire play system, proposing a poignant story. With a pixel art that fills the screen, coloring it with vivacity, Blasphemous 2 is also a beautiful sight from an artistic point of view. What else to say about game design? Evolved, mature and concrete. In a hot, very hot summer in which video games are demonstrating ever higher standards, the second iteration of the most blasphemous franchise ever could not be missing from the appeal. Sin awaits you.- The Games Machine

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy gets back to the classic single-player formula, steering away from the hybrid attempt of Marvel’s Avengers and piecing together gameplay elements from Tomb Raider, Mass Effect and even Knights of the Old Republic to make a quite unique choral adventure. The player is asked to act like the team leader, taking decision and managing the resulting contrasts between the other members. The strength of differences is the big theme of the game, and Guardians of the galaxy is great in telling it both through narration and gameplay.- The Games Machine
