    When alls said and done VC4 is a behemoth of a game with insane replay value, and a great cast of characters. Here’s hoping the next entry can wow us all over again.

    Although it's essentially an extension of the first installment (right down to the presentation and mechanics), Valkyria Chronicles 4 is still an absolute must-have for VC fans, as well as SRPG enthusiasts who don't mind a little light-hearted character development.

    A true sequel for the franchise. It’s not a huge evolution, but it is good and very respectful and we’re sure fans will appreciate that.

    Strategic war games don't get much more engaging than Valkyria Chronicles 4. Its memorable world, satisfying gameplay, and oodles of content will delight any fan of the genre for dozens of hours.

    Valkyria Chronicles 4 can feel like a clone at times, but a small iterative change makes a meaningful difference to an otherwise identical experience. I felt like I was playing a game preserved in time, which was semi-refreshing after a decade of absence, but my thoughts might change if Valkyria Chronicles doesn’t eventually.

    Valkyria Chronicles 4 brings the series back to its roots and polishes that experience to a shine. It’s a return to form for the decade-old tactical RPG series and its best entry to date, albeit playing it extremely safe. While it does iron out some of the kinks that plagued its predecessors, it does little else.

    After playing Valkyria Chronicles for ps3 which I loved btw I didn't think any other Valkyria could exceed expectations.     Great tactical RPG that can be very challenging. Story is great and makes you want to do another mission after another. Great addition to the series.

    Perfect, like the first one but more complex plot and better graphics. Finally we get another awesome Valkyria Chronicles.

Pacing is a notable strength to this story, as its plot progresses at a digestible and logical rate. If the story seems to go too briskly, however, the player is able to engage optional breather missions. The story's smart pacing ultimately serves to highlight its cast of memorable characters' strengths, motivations, and purposes. Main characters are commonly featured in well created cutscenes to demonstrate their personalities. Even side characters can be better understood through unlockable side missions that highlight their backstories, inclinations, ties, struggles, and hopes. Solid voice acting additionally helps bring these characters to life with added flare and individuality.

    By blending turn-based and real-time combat, Valkyria Chronicles 4's gameplay offers a new and enjoyable approach to strategy. Although it took me a while to learn how to maximize the movement system and fully read the overworld map, I enjoyed the game more deeply once I understood these systems. Once learned, I could more strategically plan ahead, utilize units, and complete win conditions. These win conditions offer a classic risk-reward component: faster completion times earn greater rewards and ranks. This simple system thus motivates the player to more fully embrace the game's tactical nature to win quickly. Controlling the powerful tank unit is also a signature joy, despite its difficulty with maneuvering corners. These strange issues, be it lack of technical polish or enemies' frustrating plot armor, slightly reduce the game's overall quality.

    Overall, Valkyria Chronicles 4 offers a fun character-driven story with distinct and enjoyable gameplay. It is a strong addition for any strategy game lover.

    That being said while it IS a good game there is one important flaw that I need to address: the story. The story feels more or less like the devs came up in a bit of rush, then stretched it thin using many micro fillers. It's not bad by any means, but I can't say that it's good either. The first one in the series had a much better story I'm afraid.

    Don't let my review disappoint you too much though, you'll still enjoy it, just don't expect it to be quite as epic as the first one.    … Expand
