The quality of the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on the Switch makes this a definitive way to play with the all-in-one convenience of what the console offers. And regardless of if you jump in now or at a price you like then you’re gonna have an awesome time with these games.

The touch screen options, the removal of PC's autosave feature and other adjustments, aside from playing it in gorgeous portable mode, make this Nintendo Switch version the best of all that have been released as a Remaster, and the most faithful to play the original versions, even if it had to make some sacrifices in the visual element.

With two fantastic games in one package, this latest re-release of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is very easy to recommend, with a few caveats. On Switch in particular, X-2 benefits from being suited to both long-play sessions on the TV and short bursts in handheld mode. Visually it looks very similar to the PS4 version, which is mostly great news, but it's upsetting to see the developers still haven't fixed character faces going from flat to high quality in cutscenes.

Well executed conversion of two of the most beloved JRPGs of the PS2-era.

In a lot of ways, Final Fantasy X-2 could be considered the superior title to Final Fantasy X. The battle system has more variety, the tone is more upbeat and fun, but without the context of the events that occur in the first game, the story just won’t make a lot of sense. I definitely recommend exploring Spira during what should be the eternal calm, but not until after you’ve actually defeated Sin.

The Switch version is definitely the best way to experience the game right now but it has a few issues that affect the release overall more than the port which is great.

Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster is still the timeless JRPG we all know and love, but the launch price and the lack of new content makes it hard to recommend this new version over the older ones.

The story has a dark, philosophical aspect I really liked, memories, dreams, death, life, friendship, connections,...I feel it's more mature, different compared to many other J-RPG.

The difficulty of the final boss, whilst not horrible, it's challenging, especially if you are not a perfectionist who will seek the strongest weapons and customizations :).

    ---

FF X-2 HD is, meh, not up to FF-X, story-wise it's really not a good epilogue for me. I feel it was more of an experimental J-RPG targeted at a whole different audience, I think a restricted character pool, an all-female cast was a bold idea and under the right circumstances it can be really a good idea, but the game is a bad execution of that idea. It's more fan service with people revisiting Spira and seeing character X or Y....but with far less depth compared to FF-X HD. FF-X ending set a tone also that I lost here, FF-X is violent, dark, sad,...I think the tone of FF X-2 disrespects FF-X lore and story.

I also found the game a tad easier. That bold "job" system, back in the time was also quite futuristic and broke the traditional systems.

I don't know, a J-RPG takes a lot of time to accomplish, maybe if you are a hardcore FF/J-RPG fan, and you have video-game time to spare, give FF X-2 a go, there's still some good ideas here and there, but not FF-X territory.

I have to say that on rare occasions I had some bugs in FF-X HD that forced me to restart the game...I was stuck in combat with no menu (prize or combat).

To sum up, considering the current price and the amount of time you will play FF-X alone,...I can only warmly recommend this J-RPG. FF X-2 is not a horrible game, just that it's compared to a masterpiece of PS2 RPGs :).

To be clear: I do like this game: Good Story, Solid gameplay, great design compared to prior titles.
I can pick up and play this game to ending as a comfortable RPG and on that alone I'd give this a 9-10.
What muddies this for me is the design decisions for the post-game content.
Superbosses where mastery of the game involves getting so much overgrinding that it'll match the playtime to just see credits does not a great post game makes.
Complete shenanigans for getting most of the Celestial Weapons that no one would want to invest so much time into when they can be reworked into more manageable values.
After spending too much time getting that stupid chocobo race done I expected to just plow thru for everyone elses weapons and power thru but I just couldnt.
Finishing that race -0.2 seconds time and getting the weapon for Tidus made feel like I was just wasting my time and the idea of dodging bolts, catching butterflies, and stubbing my toes for blitzball for the other weapons over the next 10+ hours just made me quit.
Knowing that doing all that chicanery to be met with still grinding for hours to either just what?
Kill Superbosses with auto revive/speed and quick hit strats that requires almost maxed out stats?
Anyone who goes that far to complete the game by doing the above: POWER TO YOU!
Though if this game had the following absolutely no-one would argue against:
Chocobo race 0-10 second time for sigil
    Lightning-Non-Consecutive given# of prizes
Blitzball-Have the same person who gave you weapon give sigil after winning tournament with Wakka on team and having all Overdrives unlocked (have his overdrives auto unlock with same conditions but not as top prize)
Butterflies: add 5-10 sec for each prize tier

It looks great but the dialogue and overall story is just really bad sometimes and there is no way to skip cutscenes. Poor game, with no gameplay. Random story with random combat and very poor levelup system.
