The remaster works and looks really good. Still a really fun game aged really well with an exception to blitzball wish they could have done something to enhance it a bit. Overall great game.

Excellent RPG game, the story is ok and can be a little cheesy sometimes. At some point I felt I was watching a movie because of how the story develops and the events that happen. Cinematics are dope every time!I loved this game, and although grinding is required at some point, it was worth it.

FF X HD is a masterpiece, I found the lack of level, replaced with the grid system quite "avant-gardiste". The story has a dark, philosophical aspect I really liked, memories, dreams, death, life, friendship, connections,...I feel it's more mature, different compared to many other J-RPG.

The difficulty of the final boss, whilst not horrible, it's challenging, especially if you are not a perfectionist who will seek the strongest weapons and customizations :).

    ---

FF X-2 HD is, meh, not up to FF-X, story-wise it's really not a good epilogue for me. I feel it was more of an experimental J-RPG targeted at a whole different audience, I think a restricted character pool, an all-female cast was a bold idea and under the right circumstances it can be really a good idea, but the game is a bad execution of that idea. It's more fan service with people revisiting Spira and seeing character X or Y....but with far less depth compared to FF-X HD. FF-X ending set a tone also that I lost here, FF-X is violent, dark, sad,...I think the tone of FF X-2 disrespects FF-X lore and story.

I also found the game a tad easier. That bold "job" system, back in the time was also quite futuristic and broke the traditional systems.

I don't know, a J-RPG takes a lot of time to accomplish, maybe if you are a hardcore FF/J-RPG fan, and you have video-game time to spare, give FF X-2 a go, there's still some good ideas here and there, but not FF-X territory.

I have to say that on rare occasions I had some bugs in FF-X HD that forced me to restart the game...I was stuck in combat with no menu (prize or combat).

To sum up, considering the current price and the amount of time you will play FF-X alone,...I can only warmly recommend this J-RPG. FF X-2 is not a horrible game, just that it's compared to a masterpiece of PS2 RPGs :).

Final Fantasy X is a very good game with a great story. The encounters can be very annoying, but I quite enjoyed the boss fights and extra content. This is the full experience on the go right here, containing all of the content from the international versions of the game, and a video drama that leads into the plot of Final Fantasy X-2.

At the time of writing this I have not finished X-2, but I am enjoying it so far. The combat is great, side quests are fun, but the story is eh.

Over all I would definitely recommend this collection to anyone who likes Final Fantasy games and even to newcomers to the franchise.

PS. god damn that chocobo mini game in X.

Absolute masterpiece. I gave a 10 for the Vita version years ago, and I wish I could award 11/10 here because this version is everything the Vita and PS4 versions are, combined. The last Sakaguchi Final Fantasy and one of the greatest video games of all time. An unquestionable must-have.

FFX as a game is a masterpiece. I love that there is a plethora of characters to choose from, that switching them out is seamless in battle, and that doing so adds some variety and provokes thought in a non-traditional for a Final Fantasy game kind of way. The music is great and fits the mood of what's going on in the story. The story is a bit linear but very enjoyable. Leveling up system was creative and while it makes it harder to do different things with the characters it also follows with a RPG logically. So-and-so is a mage, got it. BTW Blitzball is addicting; I spent far too much time playing that mini-game.

FFX-2... Coming off finishing FFX this game is starkly different and doesn't make sense. It catches you off guard and makes you wonder if it's a joke. The theme of FFX is pretty dark and this is bubbly. Considering what happened at the end of FFX I would not expect such a happy mood. I wondered if the beginning was the team being undercover to get a mission done and I wondered if the game will change after the opening but it doesn't. Other cons...FFX-2 only has 3 playable characters which after having many characters feels disappointing. Also the battle system is lacking. I literally hold down the confirm button through battles except for when I need to heal; there's no thought involved in combat. I don't like the music, especially considering it feels out of place with the mood of the FFX/FFX-2 story. There kind of is but there really isn't a story in this game either; you're playing missions essentially.

TLDR: FFX is a masterpiece and the price is worth FFX alone but don't bother with FFX-2.

Not being able to skips cut scenes can be very annoying. I understand if it was overlooked on the ps2 but it could of been implemented on the remastered.

Final Fantasy X was the first Final Fantasy game I ever experienced. After spending roughly 35 hours in this world, I cannot wait to continue to experience more.

You play as Tidus, a professional Blitzball player, who joins a crusade to stop the powerful SIN. Tidus is very winy, always the first to complain and never wanting to actually do much of anything any way but his. Luckily, there is a group around him that sometimes keeps him in check, but mostly they are enough to keep you sane and not wanting Tidus to walk off into the sunset forever never to return.
Or maybe just set off to play Blitzball forever. Because Blitzball is not fun. Like at all.

Final Fantasy X thrives on it's world and characters. Different landscapes fill out the large world, from rolling deserts to Dark yet vibrant forests. The cast around you are interesting and compelling, all growing in so many different ways throughout. All have a different combat style too, keeping each character feeling like their own even inside combat. Each character as well can be built pretty much however you want. The unique sphere grid leveling system, which seems like a lot at first but you get down quickly, allows full customization of each person.

The boss fights are epic, and not just in scale. Every conquered boss leaves you feeling accomplished. The difficulty spike on some bosses took some time to adjust to, but nothing felt unbeatable. Standard mobs throughout the world consisted of different types of similar enemies, while each zone had their share of rare mob types you could encounter. Combat never felt like a chore, it was almost always welcomed. One thing that consistently gave me pause was the magic weaknesses. As is normal, Fire is strong against ice while Lightning is strong against water. But then they decide to flip it on its head. Ice is strong against fire and water is strong against lighting. Trying to override my basic video game knowledge took some time for that one.

Final Fantasy X is beautiful, engaging, and rewarding. The few issues persist throughout the whole game and never really get better, but there are so little actual issues that it almost never hindered my experience. I could not have asked for a better introduction to such a storied franchise.

    Final Fantasy X:
The story is simply fantastic and slightly complicated. You just need to know that it takes place in Spira and you're on a pilgrimage with a summoner and guardians, overcoming hardships and challenges to defeat the villain of the game, Sin. Especially the ending, the end will make you cry! The gameplay completely feels like a traditional JRPG turn-based combat, and instead of experience to level up, you have the sphere grid, which can increase your stats and learn new moves after you've gained some AP. The graphics look slightly better than the original PS2 graphics, although I prefer the original anyways. The music is very great, composed by Masashi Hamauzu, and Suteki Da Ne (which translates to "Isn't It Wonderful?") is a really beautiful song. The characters are quite memorable and the minigames are quite tedious themselves.

    Final Fantasy X-2:
Although some people say that the story is kinda bad or mediocre, I would say the story is really good! Despite the story being technically a downgrade from FFX, at least the story is simpler to understand than in FFX. It sucks that the game doesn't tell you that there are multiple endings (there are six), so you have to search up how to get the good ending. Well, the good ending is actually the normal ending but it added an emotional ending cutscene which might make you cry. The gameplay doesn't use the traditional game mechanics that FFX had, but they brought back the active battle system with additions to it! There's a new game mechanic called Dresspheres, which basically you change your character's classes. FFX-2 is now actually a mission-based game, but you have the freedom to explore anywhere in Spira. The visuals look very great in FFX-2, but I don't know if PS2 graphics are better though. There are many music pieces in FFX-2, a few are great lyrical songs, so the music is really great.

FFX Eternal Calm is a long cutscene that acts as a short prequel to FFX-2, basically not a game.

FFX-2 Last Mission isn't enjoyable because the gameplay is quite similar to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, technically a ripoff. I only play it for around ten minutes or more, the gameplay feels hard to me and although not knowing the story, it feels kinda generic and highly linear.

FFX Will is a really long (cutscene) movie which is basically incomprehensible or what I've heard from critics. I don't know what FFX Will is about but it's definitely recommended to NOT watch it at all if you don't want your experience of FFX and FFX-2 to be absolutely ruined. It's THAT bad!

Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster is a great remaster itself while the new story additions were mediocre. Final Fantasy X was my first Final Fantasy game while X-2 is my second, I guess it's recommended to JUST playing ONLY X and X-2. It was really nice to cry at a video game again, the experience was unforgettable and beautiful. I'm truly blessed to play Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy X is truly one of the best JRPGs I've ever played. Now, the score is... 9.6! (10)

While instantly aesthetically displeasing and having bad writing and bad voice acting [really campy b-movie level], it really did seem like it was an 8/10 early on. As the game goes on it becomes more and more abrasive for many reasons.

-The random encounters are all rock paper scissors fights where you hit really heavy and so do they, so you have to manually heal your party after every single battle

-They hype up this big sports game in the story, then when you finally get to play it, it is a rigged match made for you loose badly in, and then instead of that mattering for the story like they hyped it to, the game disappears into the menu at save spots as an optional minigame

-there are very annoying puzzles with unnecessary menus that pop up anytime you want to do something

-There are very few enemy types, they get reused often and in the same exact combinations

-There are very very cheap enemies that can wipe out your entire party before you even have a turn later on, making them harder than bosses

    -the protagonist is exceedingly dumb

-a sex scene happens completely out of no where with no lead up romance

-there is a race of people who speak a different language, and you find books that teach you one letter each, and you never piece it together. You are supposed to combine the letters your friends have found on the same game system by combining the save files. So you go through the game watching all this dialogue in a different language annoyed that you can't understand it and are missing parts of the story.

-the airship in this game is unusable

-they didn't bother to lip-sync the characters to the english audio

-an entire level where you have to constantly be on edge for lighting to hit you

    -and you can't skip cutscenes

This last point brings me to where I quit. After a 5 minute long cutscene, I was faced with a boss that killed one of my party members before I even had a turn, and then later killed them all in one hit. When you get a game over, it doesn't offer to reload from the start of the fight or the cutscene OR your last save file. It goes back to loading the main menu. You have to click through to prevent the opening movie to play, load your game, walk back to where you were, and sit through the same poorly written, poorly acted cutscene again, only to face the same poorly designed boss.

I truly do not know why this game is highly regarded, I am more disappointed in the community than the game.

    FFX-2

At first it seemed pretty cool. I could play through as a giant crab if i wanted to. The job system is cool. I love their goth friend. The way they tease each other is funny and lighthearted. But the more I played, the more sloppy the design became. I went to a place with a mission, it didn't tell me where that mission was, eventually I encountered a red "go there!" arrow on my mini-map, and when i went where it told me, there was nothing to do there. So I tried another mission and it involved going through an entire level you already went through in FFX just to have someone run away so you have to backtrack through that entire same level again, all with random encounters. This is a sloppy mess.

There are menus that you literally cannot access while in docked mode. For whatever reason when the countless tutorials pop up to explain it, it specifies you must use the touch screen to pull them up. There is no way to do it if docked. Camera angles gave borderline headaches from how rapidly they jump and nonsensical they were. Most of the time, when you finally get out of cutscenes, the overworld is dull and boring. Such basic rpg elements are missing such as gear stats, character levels, and is instead replaced with a unnecessary convoluted "sphere grid" as the only source of growth for your characters. Tutorials in this game are long and make things more complicated than they actually are. Blitzball is horrendous. A completely terrible overcomplicated required minigame. It is introduced with a 12 category tutorial of about 30minutes if that says anything. Animations have not aged well and sometimes characters appear to just sprint in cutscenes. Voice acting is alright, not anything great. Overall, disappointing experience I was hoping to be better. Individual reviews below:
FFX - Tl;dr : Great game with memorable bosses. Gameplay can get repetitive at times. If you value your sanity don't do the minigames without using a guide.
A port of FFX international edition, released only in Japan/Australia/Europe and features a lot of gameplay changes.
The story is servicable, if you are willing to suspend your disbelief and go with the flow it can be quite engaging. The villains are appropriately villanous and you get attached to the party members.

The moment to moment gameplay for 80% of the game is a loop of linear battle hallways followed by a temple puzzle section. In the third act, world travel opens up with access to a secret dungeon.

In combat you control 3 characters at a time with up to 4 characters in reserve. The game encourages you to switch characters on the fly to target enemy weaknesses which makes the combat really fun at first. However, the random encounter rate is quite high and the combat hallways will be tedious and repetitive. The bosses are where the combat system really shines.

Leveling is done via the sphere grid, where you advance your character on a board using sphere points you aquire by defeating enemies. It functions in the same linear fashion as normal level-ups and provides means of character customisation in the end game. Personnally i don't like it because it makes leveling up more tedious than it should be and i'm glad it didn't return after this game.

The one thing that made my experience miserable were the various minigames needed to obtain the end-game weapons. The stand out minigame is arguably blitzball. which takes hours of tedious and monotone gameplay to complete only to get one characters secret weapon. You have the choice to either torture yourself to get those weapons or grind like hell/use cheese to prevail against the more difficult bosses.

FFX-2 + Last mission - Tl;dr : Love the gameplay and character customisation. I'm a sucker for job systems. Story and general vibe is a huge departure from FFX and might be offputting to some people.

Again a port of the international edition including significant gameplay changes and an epilogue to the story called last mission. It was only available in Japan.
The story is more of a light-hearted adventure following Yuna, Rikku and Paine trying to get the FFX protagonist back. The story is corny and does not bring anything significant to the table.

The gameplay is where this game really shines. Instead of the sphere grid you get a combination of standard leveling and a job system. The job system makes use of dress-spheres (jobs) and sphere grids. You insert dress spheres inside various sphere grids that allow you to change jobs on the fly. The more you use a job the more skills you unlock for it. Each character also has access to a secondary class permitting use of a second jobs skills at any time, allowing you to build your characters how you want.

The side content is less tedious than FFX and allows you to mostly unlock sphere grids and dress-spheres. Ultimately the side content is unremarkable.

Last Mission is an epilogue to FFX-2. It's ok, personnally i didn't like it. Story wise it still brings nothing significant to the table.

Superbosses where mastery of the game involves getting so much overgrinding that it'll match the playtime to just see credits does not a great post game makes.
Complete shenanigans for getting most of the Celestial Weapons that no one would want to invest so much time into when they can be reworked into more manageable values.
After spending too much time getting that stupid chocobo race done I expected to just plow thru for everyone elses weapons and power thru but I just couldnt.
Finishing that race -0.2 seconds time and getting the weapon for Tidus made feel like I was just wasting my time and the idea of dodging bolts, catching butterflies, and stubbing my toes for blitzball for the other weapons over the next 10+ hours just made me quit.
Knowing that doing all that chicanery to be met with still grinding for hours to either just what?
Kill Superbosses with auto revive/speed and quick hit strats that requires almost maxed out stats?
Anyone who goes that far to complete the game by doing the above: POWER TO YOU!
Though if this game had the following absolutely no-one would argue against:
Chocobo race 0-10 second time for sigil
    Lightning-Non-Consecutive given# of prizes
Blitzball-Have the same person who gave you weapon give sigil after winning tournament with Wakka on team and having all Overdrives unlocked (have his overdrives auto unlock with same conditions but not as top prize)

Final Fantasy X | X-2 is both beautiful and bonkers, a beloved turning point for one of the greatest JRPG series in video games. Even with its notable shortcomings, it’s hard not to get swept up by its powerful emotions, while there’s plenty for the most ardent JRPG completionists to spend over 100 hours in Spira.

In a lot of ways, Final Fantasy X-2 could be considered the superior title to Final Fantasy X. The battle system has more variety, the tone is more upbeat and fun, but without the context of the events that occur in the first game, the story just won’t make a lot of sense. I definitely recommend exploring Spira during what should be the eternal calm, but not until after you’ve actually defeated Sin.
