Cataclysm makes you feel like a medieval architect with performance anxiety: every mistake is set in stone and paid for in blood. It may not be a title for the masses and it has some areas that could be improved, but it can be rewarding and is certainly original.- The Games Machine

It might seem like a classic case of quantity overshadowing quality, but in reality Samurai Warriors 4 DX is a decent conversion of one of the most popular chapters among Musou fans, enhanced by a hefty dose of DLC. It’s difficult to improve a game which is already the best in its own genre, but SIE San Diego Studio achieved a good result with a few, but meaningful, changes. MLB The Show 18 offers an even more solid and consistent experience than its predecessor, although the devs cut off a couple of game modes. The new most important core element is the brand new progression system in the Road to the Show career, which offers the chance to live the tough dream of a mid- to late-round draft pick prospect.- The Games Machine

Chaotic, crazy, rich, explosive. Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is the best kart game outside the Nintendo universe and, in some ways, it is even more compelling than Mario Kart World. Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is an excellent sequel, improving almost everything over the predecessor, and with an art direction true to the Warhammer universe. Behind the appearance of an idle game with a weird palette lies a deeply strategic title, which requires a careful management of resources and the ability to foresee the moves of our hero in advance. Its simplicity makes it a game for everyone, while its complexity will make it a real challenge for veteran adventurers and RPG players. The camp management, the gathering of materials, the weapons and enemies statistics, the unlockable classes and the combinations of memory cards make Loop Hero one of the best strategy games of recent times.- The Games Machine

Konami’s Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars revives two beloved JRPG classics, preserving their deep storytelling and strategic gameplay. While the remaster improves visuals and adds quality-of-life updates, presentation leans heavily on HD aesthetics, which may divide longtime fans. The lack of a full retranslation and some dated mechanics hold it back from being a true definitive edition. Still, Suikoden II remains a masterpiece, and this collection is a welcome return for the franchise. Ninja Gaiden 4 is a powerful return, imperfect but full of character, capable of making us forget the years of silence with a combat system that borders on perfection in its fluidity and ferocity. The union between Team NINJA and PlatinumGames works: the action is brutal, visceral, and visually stunning, with an artistic direction that transforms Tokyo and its nightmares into a kabuki theater of soft lighting and blood. A clear limitation is the linearity of the maps and the repetition of enemies and bosses, which end up diluting the pace, making the second half of the adventure more tiring than exciting. Ninja Gaiden 4 has plenty of character and confirms itself as an aesthetically captivating game, but incapable of maintaining the tension it promises in its best moments. A convincing new beginning, even if it's not yet the masterpiece fans have been waiting too long for.- The Games Machine

Tales of Graces F Remastered is a shining example of how to revisit a beloved classic. With its refined combat system, deep character customization, and emotional narrative, it retains the charm of the original while adding meaningful quality-of-life updates. The transition from PS3 to modern platforms is commendable, despite minor technical flaws like Switch's capped 30 fps. The vibrant world, endearing characters, and intricate battle mechanics make it a must-play for Action JRPG fans. Marvel Cosmic Invasion once again confirms Tribute Games' ability to engage with a genre they know inside out, without sacrificing their own identity. It's a brilliant homage to the beat 'em ups of yore, finding fertile ground for ideas, pace, and character in Marvel's cosmic landscape. Some sporadic frame rate drops in the most intense situations and the natural loss of momentum when playing solo don't detract from its solidity, nor from the care that shines through in every aesthetic and mechanical choice. We weren't able to fully evaluate the online multiplayer, but its presence completes an already generous package. Children of the Sun is a puzzle game disguised as a first person shooter, in which it seems that the protagonist is The Girl when in fact it is The Bullet. The difficulty of the levels increases gently, without placing insurmountable barriers on the players, but it is unfair not to have a complete overview of the situation from the beginning, which usually happens in this genre of games. Exploding the heads of enemies in super slow motion guarantees double satisfaction, first of all because a kill is always a kill, secondly because it is proof that our strategy works. Otxo is violent and frenetic, but it is not a game where you simply have to pull the trigger, as bullet time management is crucial. The roguelike component is not very developed and the game could be better with a progression system, anyway it’s an absolutely recommended buy.- The Games Machine

Another League of Legends spin-off, another Action-RPG, but this time dominating the scene in this stylish Metroidvania is a fun mix of platforming and combat involving time manipulation. Well balanced, fun and fast-paced, even if you are not a fan of LOL you will probably love it.- The Games Machine

Daring missions with all odds stacked against us, that’s the exciting essence of Sumerian Six. The deveolper Artificer is not quite yet at the level of quality Mimimi Games got us used to, but I can already see a lot of good in this game.- The Games Machine

Back to the Dawn is a management RPG set in a prison populated by anthropomorphic animals, with strong survival elements. You have twenty-one days to organize an escape, keeping an eye on time, resources, social relationships, and skills. Every action consumes precious minutes and can influence future events. The turn-based combat system mirrors typical JRPG gameplay. Deep, branching, and challenging, it surprises with its wealth of options and narrative variety, despite its lackluster sound. A brilliant and strategic game, worth replaying several times to see as many endings as possible.- The Games Machine

Red Hook Studios refined the art of Darkest Dungeon in every sense, making it extremely difficult to find any defects. It’s a brutally challenging strategy games and it’s well suited to embrace the new roguelite form. Do yourself a favour and try it right now.- The Games Machine

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero may be the first chapter of the Budokai Tenkaichi series not to be called Budokai Tenkaichi, or the first not to indicate the “Z” with which the second part of the series is famously indicated. Yet it is in all respects a chapter 4 updated to 2024, with lots of lights (and incredible particles) and some shadows that in the end you can easily ignore.- The Games Machine

Marathon takes the Extraction Game philosophy and molds it into the Bungie style. It's not perfect—the UI is awful, and the missions lose their edge over time—but the gameplay loop is fun, and the shooter foundation is solid. And what a style, guys.- The Games Machine

Catherine: Full Body is a journey towards maturity that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but at the same time offers a good excuse for a bit of introspection. Neither a remaster nor a remake, this version manages to offer an even richer and more substantial experience than the original.- The Games Machine

It makes no sense to focus on minor flaws: Borderlands 3 is a great game, with charisma and great replayability, with four characters to look into, lots of sub-quests to deal with and a future DLC that could shine to the full.- The Games Machine

WWE 2K23 builds on the excellent foundation laid with the last edition of the game and moves forward a small step. The new features are limited, but they go a long way toward filling the gaps in WWE 2K22, for example with a significantly larger roster (nearly 200 wrestlers in total). The show stealer is undoubtedly the Showcase mode focused on John Cena and his (rare) defeats The experience overall is good, but the feeling is that little has been done to offer anything really new, merely tweaking the winning product of 22.. Like WWE’s TV shows, 2K wants to pleasure to everybody, but that’s simply non possible.- The Games Machine

The scars of a long and difficult development are clearly visible in the confusing plot and in the poor battle system. The game is spectacular and the open world area is well built, but it's not enough to bring FF XV to the top of JRPGs.- The Games Machine

Bravely Second is a top-notch J-RPG. The original formula hasn't changed a bit, and that's a good thing, but it's been expanded with tons of class, skills and tactics to accommodate the need of every strategy fan. Some balancing issues won't affect an overall great experience.- The Games Machine

Since no one else can take advantage of the official license, it's not like Frontier Development has to make its way among a thousand competitors, but in any case the developer has worked hard this year too. The innovations introduced in F1 Manager 2024 improve the gaming experience substantially, offering important innovations both during the actual races and in the more strictly managerial phases. Now that we know that the level of this management system stands at high quality levels, it would be appropriate to also focus on the performance, to make it less aseptic and more in line with the motorsport it simulates.- The Games Machine
