This is one of my favourite games of the year and it's one I'd encourage any previous Final Fantasy fan to consider. Besides the brilliant nods to the series past — adorable retro touches like pixel art character menus and classic game soundtracks you can buy in servos and listen to in the Regalia — this is a game that's doing something new and great with what's come before. It's the fondest I've felt about the series since VIII.

Final Fantasy XV hides a convoluted, 10 year-long development behind every corner and desperately struggles with its own identity. Fans of the franchise might find the new open world structure a bit disappointing especially because it hurts a narrative that finds some coherence in the second half of the game and goes straight to an emotional and very divisive ending.

While it occasionally buckles under its own ambition and the game falters somewhat as the plot ramps up, overall Final Fantasy XV is a beautiful, exciting game that I dearly loved. It may not be the best game I've played this year, but it is almost certainly my favorite, and Square Enix has built an incredible, extremely unique open-world.

There is so much good here, so much heart - especially in the relationships between Noctis and his sworn brothers. It just comes with some changes and compromises that were, at times, difficult for this long-time Final Fantasy fan to come to grips with.

Final Fantasy XV is a unique offering, both for the franchise and RPGs in general. Placing the onus on the relationships of your party, rather than the narrative, has meant that this is a game that strikes not just an emotional chord, but a personal one. While Final Fantasy stalwarts will likely balk at the action-heavy combat, the spirit of the franchise remains, and is better served here than it has been in many years.

This isn't probably the Final Fantasy you were expecting, nevertheless it's one worth your time. it is far from being a perfect game, mainly because of a terrible second half, but it succeeds where other Final Fantasy have failed: bringing the saga into the modern era.

Final Fantasy XV is definitely a memorable tale told with impressive production values. However, it's plagued by gameplay that basically plays itself, insufferable wait times, and a story that fails to establish itself before thrusting you into its world.

I personally prefer turn base combat in my final fantasy bt maybe I''m just old and a hater and need to go back to the old peoples home at the ripe old age of 27. But I do like the combat system very simple and intuitive but problems come when you need to block and the camera feels like showing you a bush rather than the threat coming in to rip off your crown jewels. But besides this very enjoyable only major complaints are side quests can get very repetitive and to the point of mind numbing and some loading screens taking ages also the frequency of them. But even after I got bored of the side quests half way through I enjoyed the main quest enjoyable and interesting enough to play to story end after story completion and about a third of side quests completed clocked up about 40 hours.

The good- I enjoyed the characters and a battle system where I don't just press auto to win
The bad- Whats killing me? Oh the giant bee I could not see as the camera has suddenly decided it's a peeping tom that wants to watch you from behind a hedge.
The ugly- The loading screens. Oh dam it wake up the game is starting. And those really short chapters like those books for stupid people "I read 5 chapters today" And they only read 5 pages
Final Verdict: 8/10 Dam good game
Despite my criticism I did enjoy my time with the game and will probably return mid 2017 to polish off the dlc if it interests me.

It has lot's of fun elements, but on the other side, it is choked by game design disturbances and by a story that was obviously hacked apart to generate more money via DLCs.

One of the questionable decisions was giving the player obvious cheat equipment right from the start. This is even worse with the Royal Edition. Those items can not be removed and permanently clog your inventory. The menus are no fun to navigate and the worst is, you are expected to utilize something like 8 different weapon and 4 magic categories and only have 4 usable slots available. So adapting to different encounters requires pausing the game and navigating through cumbersome menu screens. And then the gind ... seriously, at one point you would be expected to grind something like 24 hours, for 2 items you don't need, by WATCHING, not playing, a totally mind numbing betting "game" over and over ...

Graphically it's nice, the warping in fights and generally the first 2/3 of the game offer many missions and challenges. Especially the dungeons are full of nice little dialogues. But 2 of your 3 "friends" have an annoying Know_it_all attitude, wheres the main protagonist hardly does anything else then sulk.

The story is plain confusing and does not make much sense and character development hardly exists. Not even the main atagonist is really explained. A lot of this is because of the ripped content. It's ok for the open world part, but against the end it really spirales down into a depressing and quite unsatisfying end. And then there is the issue of total overleveling and that just by daring to do a few side missions. Ofcourse I did all I could before the end. In result, for the last third of the game I was about at double the levels I should have been ... nihilating any kind of challenge in an already far to easy game.

I liked the game for many hours, but the end chapters, due to the destroyed story, just killed it for me.

While I will admit that the graphics are good and the combat is fun the game suffers in too many areas to be considered a good Final Fantasy game. The endgame hunts are good but the fact you can only have one at a time is stupid. Traveling in the car ,especially while flying, is terrible and they should setup landmarks like Skyrim where, if you've been to a checkpoint, you can fast travel. The endgame dungeons are horrid. Fight the same four or five enemies in different quantities for 3+ hours without being able to save till you get to the boss.
The game just feels unfinished. The story has huge gaps in it.
Why was the empire even in the game?
What happened to that immortal guy in the first dungeon.
Why do you get reported dead by the empire than stroll around like nothing happened. No one notices that the DEAD PRINCE is walking around.
The character development picks up at the end but 75% of the game you don't care about your friends and I never cared about Lunafreya. They are supposed to have this bond. They met for ONE DAY twelve years ago, but they were pen pals? They have cell phones in the world. The difficulty is way too low. It is almost impossible to die, with items you could probably beat the game at level 25. Skipping cutscenes maybe 15 hours to beat if rushed.
I know it seems brutal, but I did beat it and get max Lvl. I think if they had used the combat system with a well fleshed out story and characters it could have been really great. It seems like they spend a lot of time on the battle system and not enough on pacing and storytelling. fetch quests are all the side missions and none have depth except the chocobo line. If i had to rate the recent FF games it would be as listed below
It can give an insight into what i value in games. RPGS are about stories and worlds, not the best graphics and battle system.

Never have I been let down so hard. Go look up the Final Fantasy XV E3 2013 trailer. Not a SINGLE second of that trailer made it into the final game. They completely neutered this game in order to sell their movie (which bombed), and Tabata went on record saying he dumbed down the gameplay so people his age could still play it. They completely wasted all the characters like Ravus, and Luna is probably the single worst heroine in Final Fantasy history. It is very, very sad. Expand
