Valkyria Chronicles is, simply, one of the best tactical games you’ll ever play. It’s serious, but doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s emotionally compelling while never losing sight of the fact it’s also a game. It’s a popular and well-regarded game that, for whatever reason, people simply don’t talk about it enough. Hopefully with this PlayStation 4 release that will change.

Valkyria Chronicles is a deeply satisfying game and one that I really only have a few minor gripes with. By the time the credits rolled I found myself completely wrapped up in a cast of like-able characters and excited to dig into the game’s New Game +. If, like me, you never gave Valkyria Chronicles a chance then there’s no better time to see what you’ve been missing out on.

Valkyria Chronicles received a lot of acclaim during its PS3 debut, and its praises must be sung again in this remastered port. Whatever Sega decides to do with the franchise from here on remains unclear, but at least fans new and old can enjoy one of their finest efforts in the last generation, not to mention one of the single best RPGs period.

This was and still is a very challenging turn based tactics gem with cleverly induced real-time elements and a beautiful, timeless art design.

Has aged remarkably well, and is polished enough to draw in curious newbies. Veterans should be well chuffed with all the DLC thrown in. [July 2016, p71]

Valkyria Chronicles Remaster is basically the PC version of the game, running on PlayStation 4. The cutscenes still have the big aliasing issue, but all the other scenes in the game run with gorgeous 1080p and 60fps graphics. The gameplay is still as solid and entertaining as always. If you own a PS4 but no PC or PS3, give this awesome strategic game a try.

While this is easily the best version of Valkyria Chronicles yet, it still doesn't quite live up to its potential.

Not only does it include all the DLC from the ps3 version, it also has a 60 fps and HD re-mastered quality of graphics making this game shine golden all over again. Never understood how some people skipped on this one or how very few found it boring or tiresome. This game truly innovates its genre of tactical RPGs with genuine and unique quality traits not found in any other game before it. I was impressed with this game way back when it came out on the ps3 so long ago, and I'm even more impressed that they brought it back and boosted it up to be an even better of a game then it was back then. Can't wait for the "sequel," or "spiritual successor" if you will, that will come most likely next year. If you are a fan of tactics ogre or final fantasy tactics, this is your game! Any fan of RPGs, especially tactical RPGs, will fall in love with this title. It has so much to offer and the story and plot, as well as combat system and gameplay, will leave you begging for more.

This Sega's strategic game it's simply a masterpiece, originally released on 2008 and remastered for PS4 at 1080p/60 fps.
The gameplay has interesting mechanics combining turn base strategy with manual control of the units to get more attached to them. You can also level up your units on a RPG system and buy them better equipment. Every member of your squad has also his pros and cons.

Story wise this game is more "local" than for example the 4th entry of the saga, fighting exclusively on your homeland to defend it from an Empires' invasion and uses static dialogs and cinematics that resemble an Anime made with the game engine.
The lore is really interesting emulating a 2th world war on a fictional and more medievalish Europa with some serious topics like political alliances and racial cleansing.
I also really liked the characters, specially Alicia a strong resourceful, brave woman that it's also sweet and feminine, IMO "modern" screenwriters could learn a lot about her and how to write female chars.

Graphically it looks less blurry than the original and the CANVAS engine still looks good, the only negative point is that the static background art images look aliased and weird on 4K screens.

It includes also all the DLC's and they are a fine add on as you can unlock powerful weapons for the main game and put yourself on the role of an imperial soldier under the command of Selvaria (an interesting enemy commander) humanizing the imperial army.

On the negative side I think that the rank system to reward you after a mission is broken as it only considers how many turns you needed to complete a level pushing you to do some "suicidal runs" to get the best ranks

In summary, one of the best strategy games you can play on a PS4, For Gallia!!

Welkin, the leader of your squad is a very likable character and most of them are likable once you learn their past and get past their shells. Highly recommended to fans of recent Fire Emblem games and anyone wanting a good story with likable characters. Expand

Very good story, the length of the game is adequate (around 40h and I didn't try the "expert" skirmishes). The DLC that comes for free in this edition is also very nice.

I'm not giving a 10 because you can just save at every action, which undermines any randomness in hits (why not just remove randomness then and have sure fires instead of saving/loading to get it right?). Of course, you can argue, well don't save. That's correct, but later battles can take a very long time and one misstep or **** landmine can have a great consequence. If you want the best experience, I'd say save from time to time, but don't abuse it.

Anyway, buy the game if you like strategy. I haven't played XCOM yet, but I guess this game is an easier version of it.
