Long a center of naval commerce, the people of the isles struggled throughout history for dominion over her shores. Finally there rose a man to put an end to this conflict: Dorgalua Oberyth. But history would know him as the "Dynast-King." King Dorgalua strove to stamp out the hatred among the people of the isles, and for fully half a century, Valeria knew prosperity. Yet upon the king's death, civil war erupted anew as three factions vied for control: the Bakram, who comprised much of Valeria's nobility; the Galgastani, whose people made up the majority of the isles' population; and the Walister, who numbered but few. The isles were soon divided between the Bakram and Galgastani, and an uneasy peace settled across the land. Yet none believed the calm would last... Expand

Tactics Ogre: Reborn on PC is an essential for tactical RPG fans with its deep gameplay, tons of customization, superlative soundtrack, and with how amazing it feels on Steam Deck. It took Square Enix a long time to bring Tactics Ogre back, and I'm glad we got such a great version of it.

One of the more timeless tactical role-playing games from the SNES library, Tactics Ogre: Reborn enriches its storyline with full voiceover and streamlines some of the repetitive elements. As such, only the battlefield sprites reveal Reborn’s age.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn is a thoughtfully updated port of a 2010 remake of a 1995 game. Contemporary tweaks let the strategy-RPG's story and gameplay shine.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn is largely an excellent modern version of the classic strategy RPG. There are a myriad of improvements and enhancements to make it the most user-friendly version yet without compromising its difficulty. It is sometimes a delightfully brutal experience that pushed me to think carefully about my every move, though a lot of the gameplay alterations introduced in Tactics Ogre: Reborn didn’t jive with me for the most part. The primary suspects are the universally inflated stat values across the board and the new temporary stat increase cards among other nitpicks. Everything that I love about Tactics Ogre outside of its battle system remains intact with the branching narrative system, the ways you can recruit characters, and the overall presentation of one of the most interesting narratives in video game history.

With improved presentation and various quality of life changes, Tactics Ogre Reborn is a worthy remaster in all areas except for one. However, that one ends up being one of the most important as with poor balancing of difficulty with union levels and an overly inflated HP pool, it became an absolute chore to play early on in the experience and never quite recovered.

It has come a long wayThe first quintessential tactics game with superb quality of life improvements to gameplay, graphics, audio, and UI. It has come a long way from it's original in 1995 on Super Famicom. This is the spiritual progenitor of Final Fantasy Tactics. If you enjoy mastering complex systems and tactics games in general, then this is the game for you. There have been some simplifications from the PSP version for the better that keep you engaged in battles and their objectives. The crafting system from the PSP version has had a huge overhaul and is not as tedious as it used to be. You can mass craft items all at once up to 999 per item instead of the constant button spam one had to do in the PSP version, crafting one item at a time. This is only the cream on the surface.

I can only hope SE will do the same level of polish for the rest of the series: Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen, Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber, and Tactics Ogre: The Knights of Lodis.

    Bravo and enjoy!

This game has nothing new... A big waste of time and money, not innovative or unique.
