Kirby Fighters 2 can be a nice introduction to fighting games, especially for children. But don’t get deceived: the first levels might be easy to beat, but the later ones will prove challenging even for those familiar with the genre.- The Games Machine

ARK is an ambitious project that, at the moment, lacks in optimisation: bugs, glitches and crashes happen too often and affect the gamer experience. The potential is enormous, but the devs should concentrate their work to solve all the issues and to fix what is already done, instead to produce new contents. Beware: the PvP servers are full of awful people, that's why you should buy the game if you are oriented to a PvE experience only.- The Games Machine

It might seem like a classic case of quantity overshadowing quality, but in reality Samurai Warriors 4 DX is a decent conversion of one of the most popular chapters among Musou fans, enhanced by a hefty dose of DLC. A highly atmospheric text adventure, with well-characterized characters despite some clichés and a plot that we can shape, one choice at a time. Cooper's development doesn't involve much furthermore, between rhythm and gameplay, there are several ups and downs which, together with the bugs, don't allow the game to shine like the neon lights of Terrahive.- The Games Machine

The Signifier is an ambitious game that is also aware of its limits. Unfortunately, that is not enough to elevate it among the greats. It offers a great, alienating and at times disturbing atmosphere, but its strongest suit is tackling issues that force the player out of his comfort zone. Unfortunately, mechanics are not as strong as the atmosphere, which makes the short duration (about six hours) a good choice. The ending is a bit fuzzy, however – and probably a setup for a sequel.- The Games Machine

Little Nightmares is just blowing smoke. A wonderful and charming smoke, since the mood and the aesthetics are awesome, both for style and inspiration, but the gameplay lacks depth and the game is nothing more than a far-too-simple and linear platformer with some stealth and puzzle elements.- The Games Machine

Journey to Foundation is a game that is greater than the sum of its parts: the absolute merit of the original work is set against the backdrop of mechanics and ideas that are limited and already seen, but when put together manage to function as pieces in the complex and fascinating mosaic that Foundation has always been. Clockwork Aquario is a miracle of preservation, but that doesn't make it a game for everyone. An ‘on the road’ adventure to rediscover the sense of belonging to a community, of living to share. Some will criticise Caravan SandWitch for the simplicity of its gameplay, the lack of a real challenge and some minor technical issues. The flaws of Metroid Prime: Federation Force become almost irrelevant if you play with friends, but are impossible to ignore if you play by yourself. Mixing games and movies is hard, and The Complex still hasn’t found the magic formula. At least, it doesn’t take the matter so seriously as Until Dawn, but it just delivers what it promised: 6-8 hours of an interactive movie, set in a direct-to-video sci-fi context. Ruffy and the Riverside is an adventure-platform that seems to have come straight out of the 64-bit golden age, but the “swap system” integrated into its gameplay manages to make it quite unique in its genre and to give life to truly unique and fun puzzle elements. Togges makes no secret of his sources of inspiration: Super Mario Galaxy above all, but also Katamari Damacy and Pikmin. While Togges does not have all the qualities of its benchmarks (particularly in controls and cleanliness in design), it knows its strength points and focuses on those: smooth, colourful graphics on which rests a relaxing, carefree gameplay. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Battle Destiny Remastered is an adaptation that, while remaining faithful to the original title's portable origins, offers a solid and exciting gaming experience for fans of the SEED saga. Fast and fluid gameplay, coupled with decent Mobile Suit customisation and a large roster of mechs, form the beating heart of a title capable of entertaining for hours. However, the meagre and fragmented narrative, aimed almost exclusively at long-time fans, and above all a frustrating and ill-calibrated lock-on system, severely hamper the game's potential. The good level of challenge is often unfairly constrained by unfortunate design choices, which make the experience less accessible to newcomers. Gatekeeper is an isometric roguelike that focuses on straightforwardness: no complex hubs, just choose a character and get started. Missions alternate between simple objectives such as escort, resistance, and activation, and spectacular, well-constructed boss fights. The power-up system is effective, with 10% bonuses that are cumulative and immediately noticeable. However, the progression system is immature: perks are unlocked with a slow “point collection” that does not enhance the character but only the assortment in the shops, and abandonment due to excessive grinding could come very soon.- The Games Machine

We are not at the mythical levels of the first episode, it is evident. Outcast – A New Beginning is a sequel without infamy and without praise, net of a nostalgia effect which inevitably has its weight but cannot justify every shortcoming. Strengths and weaknesses are almost equal when it's time to take stock, appreciating it or not depends a lot on how much importance you give to both. Bogos Binted? is a wacky party game based on card games between lazy aliens, where each turn players contribute to a shared sum without exceeding a random target number. Whoever goes over the limit activates a compressor connected to their skull, often with fatal consequences. The gameplay is immediate, just the right amount of mean, and supported by special cards capable of turning the tables at the last second. The bizarre look and super-budget price work in its favor, but the fact that only one of the four planned modes is present in the final release is a significant drawback. I tried to be objective, I swear. Little Big Adventure – Twinsen's Quest is good at respectfully transposing into the contemporary a French action-adventure that many of us keep in our memories, but it also has to deal with some limits that are partly inevitable since they are children of other times. The pragmatic desire to modernize the initial work trying not to overly distort it is pleasing even if it is not completely convincing in the result, especially if observed with eyes free of the beauty filter known as nostalgia. However, it remains a balsamic dive into the past to return to Twinsun and see old friends who seem rejuvenated, despite a technical sector that, due to a few too many flaws, does not fully do justice to the original masterpiece.- The Games Machine

Track design, off-road arcade driving and nice scenarios make V-Rally 4 a game worth trying; unfortunately, asphalt races, career and Buggy/Rally Cross are much less enjoyable.- The Games Machine

Emio - the Smiling Man has a good story to tell, held hostage by mechanics from the early days of Japanese interactive fiction that refuse to give way to fresher, more current game design ideas. It's a bit of a trial-and-error fairground and excessive verbiage, but if that doesn't scare you off (there's a demo to try out that might suit you) you'll be rewarded with an investigative tale of unquestionable value.- The Games Machine

Godfall is not a title without its charms. The combat system is solid and satisfying, and technically, the game is great proof of PlayStation 5’s potential. But cramming levels full of particles effects and shining lights does not necessarily make for good aesthetic design, and Godfall also suffers from a weak story and repetitive endgame.- The Games Machine

Lots of games, but not all stars among Pac-Man's birthday guests. The essential emulation gives a no-frills experience to the old glories in a context tailor-made for chasing the online leaderboards, but the absolute lack of extras is a great disappointment.- The Games Machine

Cobra Kai is an entertaining beat ‘em up, colorful and faithful to the original, and also incredibly rewarding in co-op. It does, however, suffer from some annoying technical issues.- The Games Machine

When it comes to porting triple A titles to the Switch, Panic Button is an experienced and capable developer, and Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch is an impressive technical feat. This time, however, the challenge might have been too great, and the compromises required of the player too excessive.- The Games Machine

Kirby Robobot relies on creativity and a "think out of the box" philosophy, adorned with jolly and light-hearted aesthetics. Unfortunately, it's almost too easy to complete the game, especially if you played your fair share of platformers. It's a game that will probably appeal the younger (and less experienced) player.- The Games Machine

Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac is a fun and light-hearted action platformer full of little surprises and mini-challenges that will delight fans of Namco's popular mascot. The excessive ease and speed with which the main adventure concludes are its most notable flaws, which could deter players looking for a real challenge.- The Games Machine

White Shadows does nothing to hide his sources of inspiration: Limbo and Inside. A dark and obscure location is the right place to set a dystopian, anthropomorphic future story which can be read as a hermetic social metaphor. Though fascinating, White Shadows does too little to explain to the players where they are or what exactly it is that they’re doing, and its very simple mechanics don’t help. At the same time though, you often feel like you just can’t leave, like when watching a Lynch movie.- The Games Machine

A fluid and dynamic action-platformer with great potential, flawed by a too rigid structure, limited longevity and some annoying bugs that spoil the experience. A metroidvania with these dynamics could give an eventual sequel the breathing room this project needed.- The Games Machine

Atelier Sophie represents a new identity for the series. A self-pilot episode, that tries to capture the interest of a new fanbase. Good, but we would have preferred a more challenging game.- The Games Machine

An action cop game that winks at Miami Vice, Hill Street and other historical detective series from the 80s. The game structure is interesting, the chases intense and challenging and the tasks to be performed quite varied, but in the long run repetitiveness makes itself felt and a few technical glitches break the magic. Technically we are close to average, but a few corrections are needed to put right the less than perfect fluidity and a few too many glitches.- The Games Machine

Secret World Legends simplifies and makes more accessible one of the most intriguing and captivating online worlds ever created. Unfortunately, graphics feel pretty old (which they are), and Funcom never managed to find a good balance between a story-driven experience and the MMO gameplay dynamics. Anyway, a good online action RPG that can be enjoyed with some friends.- The Games Machine

A.O.T.: Wings of Freedom raises the bar for the musou genre developed by Omega Force and Koei Tecmo. The game is interesting, albeit with some flaws, and has a unique identity that can be appreciated even if you're not a fan of the anime.- The Games Machine

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is all but infinite, with a skimpy roster and pretty dull aesthetics. Unless you love playing online, you'll miss a true captivating and lasting single player mode. It's not a bad game in itself, but at the same time we can't shake the feeling that it's a missed opportunity to create something really unique.- The Games Machine

This new DLC for the post-apocalyptic RPG from Bethesda had a lot of potential, more than it actually proved to have. It's not bad, it's simply a work well done, without anything that truly shines or makes it better than the original game.- The Games Machine

Monster Truck Championship finally does justice to the crazy world of monster trucks with a good game, genuine and fun, absolutely standard in its structure but made unique by a control system and physic engine apt for handling steel behemoths, maybe not always perfect but tasty for racing fans looking for different sensations. The freestyle mode is certainly the best part of Teyon's game, with a good number of arenas and a handful of tricks to be chained and controlled with skill. The rest should be played without too many expectations. Technically lackluster, but seeing those wheels spinning in the mud is spectacular.- The Games Machine

Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon improves over the predecessor in every possible way, from the more refined gameplay to a more inspired story and art direction. There are some technical issues, and the game is not available in the Italian language. Other than that, a pretty good RPG-musou.- The Games Machine

Sea of Thieves is a game with great potential, but it's undermined by a lack of variety and depth. Meditative alone, fascinating and epic in multiplayer, the navigation experience provided by Rare is truly unique and brilliant. On the other hand, the extreme freedom given to the player cannot be fulfilled because of clumsy boots on the ground mechanics and a quest structure that is far too repetitive.- The Games Machine

When I look at Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles I keep seeing the usual formula that Cyberconnect2 has been using for years of anime tie-in fighters. It’s still an enjoyable and fun fighting game, if you care enough to get into its more obscure mechanics, but it could have been much better with more emphasis on a proper training mode and a more fleshed out campaign. Nonetheless, it’s also one of the prettiest game ever developed by the software house that created .Hack and a proper celebration of the bombastic action sequences of the original animated series produced by world-known animation studio Ufotable.- The Games Machine
