Void Terrarium 2 with a well-designed dungeon crawler section could have been a great game. Unfortunately, the roguelike is far too simple and the new features added to the first chapter are really few, and mostly concentrated in crafting, making the gap with the rest of the game even clearer: you will really have to love Toriko like a daughter in order not to give too much weight to the shortcomings of everything that is not found inside the Terrarium.- The Games Machine

For the time being, No Man's Sky on PC runs slightly better than the console versions, the control system doesn't work very well with the mouse + keyboard combo, and that's about the only differences worthy of being mentioned. There's no denying that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a fighting game with a lot of content, charismatic characters, and tons of special moves and skills. Nintendo cares about our health and to prove it brings us a new chapter of the Fitness Boxing series, urging us to get off the couch and follow the workout routines of inflexible virtual trainers. The playful streak of titles like Ring Fit Adventure and Boxing Fist of the North Star disappears in favour of more serious training based on the fundamentals of boxing. Bithell Games, what should we do with you? What is this game? As an action game, it is not very in-depth, it is not stimulating. As a narrative, the story is appreciable but does not leave any freedom to the player. Did you look for linearity so as not to alienate those who wanted to fight? Fine, but then you should have developed that part more. And instead the final result remains in a sort of limbo, far from being an excellence in the various souls that compose it. For those who see the glass half full, it remains a well-written story in a super fascinating narrative universe.- The Games Machine

God of War: Sons of Sparta attempts to delve into Kratos' past with a promising narrative, but ends up betraying much of the power expected from a title in the saga. The idea of exploring the trauma and nascent fury of the Ghost of Sparta was intriguing, and Deimos is a successful human counterpoint, but the game fails to transform this potential into a memorable experience. The predominant feeling is that of a timid title, almost fearful of its own heritage: the combat lacks bite, the two-dimensional graphics appear uninspired and lacking in character, and the mechanics — although functional — are uninspiring and constantly feel like something we've seen before. Sons of Sparta does not leave its mark, does not surprise, does not embody the epicness and brutality that made Kratos an icon; interesting for the most curious fans, but disappointing for those who expect the fury and emotional impact typical of the saga.- The Games Machine

After hours spent in the world of Age of Empires - Definitive Edition, we still don't have the answer to the real question: why should we play this remake? Gameplay-wise, the genre has seen a lot of improvements over the years, and the developers weren't bold enough to give a fresh start to the original title. Days of Doom tries to do something new by fusing together turn-based strategy and roguelite. The end result, however, can only be said to be partially successful. Both the battles and the growth are characterized by slow times that end up diluting the fun: in the short run you have fun, but the risk of getting tired soon is real. The art direction is nice, though derivative at times. Overall a good pastime, but one that risks slipping away without leaving a trace.- The Games Machine

Terrifier: The ARTcade Game is a side-scrolling beat 'em up inspired by the Double Dragon arcade cabinet, featuring four playable characters from Damien Leone's horror franchise. It offers good pixel art, a chiptune soundtrack, convincing CRT/VHS filters, and six modes, including Arcade, Story, and Boss Rush. The combat system is basic, based on two attacks and a special move, with gory finishers and collectible weapons. However, imprecise hitboxes, chaotic priorities, and broken pacing detract from the experience, making the title appealing only to the most die-hard fans.- The Games Machine

At first it is exciting to unleash the destructive fury of the Red Demon on the unfortunate enemies in the realms of the Wyrd, the first clashes are brutal and pyrotechnic to the point of predicting great things. The truth is that one punch at a time the enthusiasm wanes until it shows, under the skin of a stylish aesthetic that adheres to the original, a roguelite structure that is not very courageous and a gameplay that fails to convince.- The Games Machine

Layers of Fear 2 retains many of the features of its predecessor while varying the setting greatly. Death by Scrolling is a top-down roguelite by Ron Gilbert that combines instant action with ongoing progression: each run makes your character a little stronger, pushing you toward the classic "last playthrough." The simple yet tactical gameplay offers automatic combat and limited equipment options, with procedurally generated environments and a constant wall of flames hounding you. However, it suffers from a lack of variety, a sometimes unclear level design, and an often unfair difficulty. It's fun for short sessions, but far from the brilliance of the best casual roguelites.- The Games Machine

Hello Games created something truly new and unique: No Man's Sky manages to be the best videogaming experience in the recent years, and at the same time a huge disappointment for what it could have been. The first hours are simply amazing, and will probably be stuck in your memory for the rest of your life. Berzerk is a timeless classic whose gameplay has aged well, in fact it is even more popular now than it was at the time, thanks to progress in hardware. This Recharged edition reintroduces the spirit of the original in a modern guise, but fails to turn it into a more full-fledged game than just a casual score attack. WWE Battlegrounds is an excellent idea lost inside way too much repetitiveness. 2K wrestling games needed a fresh new style and approach, but Saber’s game got lost due to an oversimplified fighting system and an excessive use of microtransactions. A video game that would have deserved more care and attention from a technical point of view. The Many Pieces of Mr. Coo could have been much more and with more content. Such a pity.- The Games Machine

This fifth installment of the Mario & Sonic series is a nice multi-event sports title, although a little too easy for an experienced gamer. It's pretty clear that the targeted audience is younger gamers, and they'll have a lot of fun, thanks to the eye-candy graphics, the local multiplayer (not online, though) and a roster of well-known and loved characters.- The Games Machine

Diluvion is a wonderful-to-see boring-to-play game, which squanders the chance to emerge from the depths because of its repetition.- The Games Machine

Tales of the Neon Sea makes the cyberpunk arguments of Blade Runner its own, embedding them in a valuable work in pixel art, and managing to give us back some of that sound old 1980s science fiction that, for one reason or another, continues to fascinate us. The gameplay, however, is plagued by repetitive mechanics and some puzzles suffer from a bad translation from Chinese into English.- The Games Machine

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is not a bad game but it is disappointing, a metroidvania all too anchored in the past that doesn't really add anything new to the genre that Koji Igarashi himself contributed. Beyond the bland execution and the continuous plagiarism of Symphony of the Night and Aria of Sorrow, Bloodstained is plagued by too many problems, especially in terms of combat and the hitbox system, preventing an enjoyable gaming experience. It hurts to say this, but there are too many better alternatives to Bloodstained on the market. We expected a lot more than this from Igarashi-san.- The Games Machine

Accel World VS Sword Art Online has a decent and enjoyable combat system, but everything else is definitely sub-par: the graphics seems to be coming from the previous PlayStation, and the world is dull and pretty anonymous. Probably slightly more interesting if you're a fan of the series.- The Games Machine

Yomawari: Midnight Shadows is a pretty basic horror title, with a creepy and disturbing atmosphere, and an interesting bestiary. The game is not too difficult, the super-deformed art direction is a little bit anticlimactic, but overall it's a good scary ride.- The Games Machine

Vader Immortal: a Star Wars VR Series is practically a video game amusement park attraction, and I mean that in terms of length as well. But it’s still an enjoyable experience that will delight every fan of Lucas' opera omnia for a couple of hours.- The Games Machine

Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada is not the best musou ever created, but if you're looking for something simple and fun, this new offering from Koei Tecmo might be a good choice. Unless, of course, you have a peculiar dislike for the genre.- The Games Machine

Adventures of Mana is a low-budget title that will appease all the fans of vintage RPGs. For a game that should have celebrated the 25th anniversary of Mystic Quest (Game Boy), it could have been much, much better.- The Games Machine

The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is the Dark-Soulest of all Soulslikes. The idea of using lore as a game mechanic is interesting, but in the end maybe too easily applied on the experience. Overall Nostalgaia is a Dark Souls child with no regrets about it, but with some over-simplification and some battle-related issues.- The Games Machine

What a pity! Impact Winter could have been a great survival game, but it's affected by so many issues that it's impossible to reward Mojo Bones' work with more than a generous sixty-five. Anyhow, you should keep an eye on it: the future patches could fix at least the major bugs and transform a caterpillar in a wonderful butterfly.- The Games Machine

A lazy job. The game is quite fun, despite the obvious repetition of the genre, but the porting presents the same problems of the original version. Tons of content is not enough to let the game get more than a modest appreciation.- The Games Machine

No empathy and no rhythm are just two of the issues that prevent Before the Storm to reach our hearts in the same way Life is Strange did, two years ago. Let's wait for Episode 2 and let's hope for a deeper friendship between Rachel and Chloe, disconnected from sexual logic only.- The Games Machine

Freedom Wars Remastered is an operation that fails to restore luster to its former glory. Already narratively it was not something never seen before that could be defined as seminal and, even today, unfortunately the absence of a charismatic character is felt throughout. Not helping are the technical problems, such as a slowdown in the pace due to excessively long loads and an unstimulating work from a gameplay point of view, really old.- The Games Machine

Unto The End is able to build an entire universe using almost no words. Every gameplay element is part of its narrative of a wild, brutal and unfair world. Sadly, its combat system feels (and probably is) unfair, making the entire experience sometime unbearable.- The Games Machine

Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance is a double-edged sword. The setting and the characters are sure to appeal to an R. A. Salvatore fan, and there are hints of a fun, entertaining game here and there. But they are often overshadowed by the many issues, such as extremely poor enemy AI and questionable design choices.- The Games Machine

Lost Soul Aside is one of those titles that, once you've played it, makes you realize the difference between knowing a video game series well and developing one. There are several elements worth saving, but they're not helped at all by the context in which they were inserted. And the idea of launching everything at a premium price also lowers the appeal of the offering.- The Games Machine
