Mighty No. 9 is a masterpiece of old-school gameplay mechanics, and, one needs to look at it as a spiritual successor to Mega Man, instead of an outright sequel.

Mighty No. 9 has a strong gameplay core that isn’t better or worse than Mega Man—it’s just different. The further the game deviates from that core, however, the worse it becomes.

There are so many cool ideas scattered around the game that the sore aspects really stand out even more. Growing up such a huge fan of the Mega Man series has certainly left me starved in recent years, and Mighty No. 9 fills that void well. There is a great game buried in here, one that kept me coming back like the Mega Man titles I grew up with, but the rough edges really shine bright just when I start looking past them.

If you are feeling nostalgic for Mega Man, dust off your NES or Super Nintendo; Mighty No. 9 is not the spiritual successor we wanted. It may look and play like Mega Man, but Comcept’s robotic doppelganger doesn’t have the heart of Capcom’s Blue Bomber. A sparkless facsimile, Mighty No. 9 never captures the excitement or creativity of Mega Man’s classic exploits

If you've got a hankering for old-school platformers (albeit ones bastardised by a few modern conventions) Mighty No. 9 is a game for you. If you were going to pick it up on a whim because you fancied a taste of Capcom's golden age, you're better off looking elsewhere. Hardcore gamers eat your heart out, but don't expect to sleepwalk through this one.

Mighty No. 9 is an inoffensively average game sprung from the memories of the past, with little to show for its position in the present.

Mighty No. 9 contains the seeds of a good platforming franchise, but for now they're exactly that: Seeds. In its current state, Keiji Inafune's intended successor to the Mega Man series lacks creativity, joy, and character – not to mention several weeks' worth of polish.

In reality this game is probably a 7/10, but what do you expect from a $20 game? It's hard, it's fun, it's challenging and it looks pretty good.

Maybe all the 0's are coming from users who are use to having their hand held during a game and now they're frustrated that it actually takes several level play throughs to beat a boss at the end of a level...

Anyways as a megaman fan I recommend this because it's a fun game after all if you want a good platform with smooth 60fps then just buy it, it's cheap and challenging at some points.

I like it. I wish I could simply just write those 3 words and be done with it but I guess that wouldn't be much of a review.

    The Art Design
I like it. I wish I could simply just write those 3 words and be done with it but I guess that wouldn't be much of a review.

The Art Design is simplistic, and as many will point out the larger explosions are poor. But actual enemy design is good, cartoon-esque and fitting to a mega man spiritual successor.

Sound-design is very good. Until a 'human' character opens their mouth. Ironically the scientists that built beck are more robotic than their creations. But things 'pew' as I expect from a mega man game, and when you do defeat multiple enemies, that sounds are proper.

Game design is complicated. Let me get one thing clear: You will die, a lot. and often it will not be your fault. Instant death spikes and bosses with supposedly easily dodged K-O attacks are in no short supply. But it was never enough for me to throw my control. I just got angry I didn't give up. And as Ben
'Yahtzee' Croshaw put it, "Angry gets **** down." You quickly realize your dash is over-powered and can bypass certain sections with ease, and then you realize the developers realized this as well and placed the purple insta-death spikes where you'd dash into. Reset, gnash your teeth and go through the level properly. I know I sound down on it, but if you've played Mega Man 9 and 10 you know the frustration leads to immaculate pride upon succeeding.

There is love in this game, and events can occur that you might actually miss entirely. I had previously met characters show up in the middle of the levels to assist me, I found different paths to take with boosts and health, and for the most part I've enjoyed the personality behind each boss. No Shakespearean drama here but something light-hearted and child friendly that I don't necessarily mind.

For 20 bucks you can't complain too much about the game. Still, I'd wait for a sale.

Apparently they struggled between making it new and refreshing and not being too much of the same. It feels like leaderboards and speed runs are all this game was built on. Which is great if that's your thing. It's not mine so the game just felt like it had potential and failed on most aspects.

For what they are doing the graphics are fine. The English Voice acting is horrible. Worth the laugh if your drunk or something. Japanese voice acting, with English subtitles is better.

I was hoping co-op would make it better. But apparently you need to do something to unlock it. I haven't found anything to keep my interest enough to want to unlock it.

I left this game feeling the director got more credit than he deserved for the greatness of Mega Man. He might want to rehire his old idea guys. As they apparently know more about what makes Mega Man great than the guy who gets all the credit.

This was one of the biggest cases of false advertising and lies from a Kickstarter campaign that I've seen in awhile. The game suffered a massive texture and graphics downgrade from what was originally shown to us back around 2014 with character models and backgrounds looking uninspired and rushed out the door, something you would consider decent or passable back in 2008 on the 360. The voice acting is awful, the voice actors must have read the line once and called it a day because I really don't see any other way this could be considered acceptable. The gameplay is boring with an exciting "hold X to kill everything" sort of gameplay, and is finished being mutilated and beaten with a God-awful feature where you have to dash forward into enemies to "absorb" them and finish them off. Being related to Mega-Man, you would expect some excellent boss fights like the classic games, but the only thing you will find in the boss fights here is rinse and repeat "hold the X button while facing the enemy to shoot at them, dash at them when their health bar turns purple, then do it again until you win." The saddest thing about this game is how it had $4M dollars to work with and it still turned into a piece of mediocre garbage. There have been tons of Indie games with half or even less of a budget that have come on to become commercial successes, this game has no excuse to be in the state that it is, and anyone giving this game 8,9,10s are most likely people who gave money to this massive lie and can't admit they have buyers remorse for a terrible game. Do not waste $30 on this game when there are numerous other titles out at the moment that are ACTUAL 8,9,10s that are far more deserving of a $30-$60 price range, if you really want to experience this travesty for yourself, rent the game or wait for it to hit the garbage bin in GameStop or Target for $5.
