The expectations for this game were high and it it meets none of them. Honestly, I don't understand how this is being sold for $20. There are plenty of better games for the money. It just doesn't deliver on the original promise and you're better off picking up other games and supporting other developers.

For 20 bucks you can't complain too much about the game. Still, I'd wait for a sale.

Apparently they struggled between making it new and refreshing and not being too much of the same. It feels like leaderboards and speed runs are all this game was built on. Which is great if that's your thing. It's not mine so the game just felt like it had potential and failed on most aspects. For

For what they are doing the graphics are fine. The English Voice acting is horrible. Worth the laugh if your drunk or something. Japanese voice acting, with English subtitles is better.

I was hoping co-op would make it better. But apparently you need to do something to unlock it. I haven't found anything to keep my interest enough to want to unlock it.

I left this game feeling the director got more credit than he deserved for the greatness of Mega Man. He might want to rehire his old idea guys. As they apparently know more about what makes Mega Man great than the guy who gets all the credit.

I like it. I wish I could simply just write those 3 words and be done with it but I guess that wouldn't be much of a review.

The Art Design is simplistic, and as many will point out the larger explosions are poor. But actual enemy design is good, cartoon-esque and fitting to a mega man spiritual successor. Sound-design is very good. Until a 'human' character opens their mouth.

Sound-design is very good. Until a 'human' character opens their mouth. Ironically the scientists that built beck are more robotic than their creations. But things 'pew' as I expect from a mega man game, and when you do defeat multiple enemies, that sounds are proper.

Game design is complicated. Let me get one thing clear: You will die, a lot. and often it will not be your fault. Instant death spikes and bosses with supposedly easily dodged K-O attacks are in no short supply. But it was never enough for me to throw my control. I just got angry I didn't give up. And as Ben
'Yahtzee' Croshaw put it, "Angry gets **** down." You quickly realize your dash is over-powered and can bypass certain sections with ease, and then you realize the developers realized this as well and placed the purple insta-death spikes where you'd dash into. Reset, gnash your teeth and go through the level properly. I know I sound down on it, but if you've played Mega Man 9 and 10 you know the frustration leads to immaculate pride upon succeeding.

There is love in this game, and events can occur that you might actually miss entirely. I had previously met characters show up in the middle of the levels to assist me, I found different paths to take with boosts and health, and for the most part I've enjoyed the personality behind each boss. No Shakespearean drama here but something light-hearted and child friendly that I don't necessarily mind.

Mighty No. 9 is filled with fun, quirky boss battles and Megaman-styled level designs. No, it doesn't bring anything new to the overall experience of past Mega Man games, but it does utilize a brand new mechanic - The AcXel Dash. Though this new ability takes some time to get used to, you'll find that properly controlling it is essential to the game.

Unfortunately, the game is also plagued by a pattern of difficulty spikes. It really doesn't bring the player's skill or confidence up in a natural way by challenging them with any seamlessly progressive levels.
Instead, you'll be coasting along having fun, when suddenly the level is going to take some serious determination and skill to wrap up.

Mighty No. 9 isn't exactly what anyone may have been expecting, and we've all waited long for it's arrival... But, for all the bad there's some fun to be had, the bosses are a blast to go toe to toe with and learn their patterns. This game is for anyone willing to sit down and be forgiving of bad level pacing.

A frustrating, joyless platformer that buries its few good ideas under apathetic nostalgia. [Sept 2016, p.77]

Mighty No. 9 is largely not fun, and irritating in many ways: controls, voice acting, repetitive music. It is a hollow and empty experience. This is pretty much the kind of game you'll buy when it's on sale dirt cheap to see what all the fuss was about.

Mighty No. 9 fails to fill the shiny blue, metallic, oversized boots of its predecessor. The game manages to capture the essentials of the previous titles without capturing the essence.
