The Long Reach is a fantastic debut from developer Painted Black Games in terms of presentation, but its lacking story (or explanation thereof) and technical hiccups hold it back. If you fancy a short horror experience with sleek, pixel art visuals and classic point and click elements, it's worth giving it a try.

Reed 2 is a tricky pixellated platformer which, while not all that long, does offer some discernible challenge. It’s a nice enough title to have tucked away on your Switch to tickle a platforming urge, but it’s not going to pull up any trees.

Jotun is a game of two halves, unfortunately, the half requiring exploration is an exercise in monotony. The true core of the game is found with the excellent Jotun battles, where you are truly challenged, whilst rewarded for your efforts.

Farabel offers a turn-based strategy experience that is just okay across the board. Even with a unique twist on the time travel trope, the lack of depth, empty environments, and one-trick-pony style to gameplay hurt this one.

D/Generation: The Original holds up well from its 1991 release, with entertaining and engaging puzzling. At £14.99, it's a little on the steep side price-wise, though.

Himno is not the gold standard for games offering relaxing, immersive gameplay, but if you’re looking for something peaceful, it might be just what you need.

Jump Gunners is a good title for short bursts with friends in a party situation, but there’s little reason to revisit the game months down the line. It suffers from a lack of personality in its visuals, but at least there’s a good range of things to do.

Despite its rough presentation, Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World is a complex town-building game that manages to incorporate different elements from the Atelier series into a satisfying experience.

Animated Jigsaws is fun enough to pass the time. Some tricky issues with managing so many pieces on the touch screen were always likely to exist, but at least it’s pretty enjoyable.

The thrill of conquering a rogue-like is found here in SKYHILL. It does rely on luck and randomisation a little too heavily, but it will still leave you saying “just one more run” before too long.

3,000th Duel doesn’t do a lot new for the Souls-like Metroidvania hybrid genre, but its satisfying combat and various customisation options make for an enjoyable experience which makes up for a lot of its familiarity.

While Trüberbrook suffers from a handful of technical issues and some occasionally sluggish gameplay, the story, atmosphere, and dry humour make for a largely enjoyable experience. However, if you don’t already love point-and-clicks, this one won’t change your mind.

Hyperbrawl Tournament is a game that has a solid concept but doesn’t quite stick the landing. With a game that would have benefitted from greater depth in the gameplay loop, it’s still a title that will result in isolated enjoyment.

Eternum EX is a solid arcade experience, but is unlikely to hold the attention for long. £12.99 seems steep for a game like this in this day and age.

Warborn is a very by-the-numbers tactical strategy game. And while there’s nothing inherently wrong with this fact, the game doesn’t do enough to separate it from the pack or make it appealing to genre veterans.

Creepy Tale is an atmospheric excursion that can be completed in under an hour, although it could take longer (but prove more frustrating) without the hints option activated. This is a bite-size adventure garnished with creepy charm.

Strange Brigade is a fun and exciting game that’s much better experienced with friends than alone. It does sacrifice graphics for performance and, although that’s not a bad thing, it would have been nice to have seen it not looking so dated.

If first-person puzzlers are your thing, then there’s a lot about Faraday Protocol that will suck you in. It shines most in its puzzles, using the Bia-Tool’s basic functions to great effect over 4–6 hours. Just don’t expect to be blown away.

PRINCESS MAKER -FAERY TALES COME TRUE- is a neat little simulation game, and a trip down nostalgia lane. The ultra-steep learning curve is frustrating, but it is worth it if you’re willing to put in the grind work. Sixty different endings will keep hardcore fans coming back for more.

Cosmic Top Secret is an enjoyable and surprisingly educational experience that tells an interesting story. However, it’s held back by the limited gameplay on offer.

Fantasy Strike offers an accessible, if not conflicted, take on the beloved fighting genre. Whilst it’s certainly not for those that cut their teeth on complex button inputs, the strategic elements found throughout have the potential to entice otherwise naysayers.

Mars Horizon is a simple yet addictive strategy sim that takes you to the very heart of space exploration itself. Take charge of your own space agency but be careful as one mistake can end in disaster!

Even though this Purrfect Edition is a revamped version of the original Hunter’s Legacy, it is still a bit far from being a true perfect material. Nevertheless, even with some rough edges here and there, Hunter’s Legacy still provides an enjoyable metroidvania experience, all thanks to a complex combat and wide upgrade options.

Creature in the Well is a clever and challenging original take on dungeon-crawl pinball. It might be too tricky at times, and irritating when you have to trek back to the point you died, but the action sure is fun.

Calico prides itself on being a game that ‘makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside’, and of that, it succeeds. Unfortunately, it’s currently let down by a lot of strange bugs and awkward controls.

Talisman is an efficient recreation of the board game, right down to the pricey expansion packs available separately. There is a rich variety of content for intrepid adventurers, if you can handle the moderately user-friendly menu system.

Spirit of the North wishes to take you on a physical and spiritual journey, and requires a slow pace and some patient thought. It is a rewarding tale in scenic surroundings, although this furry friend can occasionally frustrate.

Varion had the potential to outgun the competition, and, with a shift in tact to remove the overriding element of luck that permeates through the gameplay, its true potential could have been realised. Sadly, it underwhelms, even despite its extensive gameplay offerings.

Hero Hours Contract is an inclusive turn-based adventure that is moreish despite its flaws. It’s overtly political, perhaps surprisingly so for the aesthetic and genre, and this combined with its charming personality helps it to stand out from the crowd.

Super Destronaut: Land Wars takes some basic themes of the Space Invaders experience and twists them by adding first-person shooter gameplay. While the shooting mechanics are fun, the arcade structure feels a bit limiting and repetitive.

Harvest Moon: One World introduces the fun new mechanic of moving your farm around, and it’s made the controls quite smooth. However, the simplified story and static characters could have adult gamers losing interest quickly. A good game for younger audiences.

While a flat tyre performance and empty tank when it comes to DLC make it difficult to recommend over the already released PlayStation and Xbox versions, MX vs ATV All Out is a competent Switch port, with plenty of customisation options and gameplay variation.

Brawlhalla is a great, free alternative to Super Smash Bros., but just doesn’t have the same spark that makes it stand out beyond that. Still, if you love the grind and want something new to play with your friends without needing an online subscription, this is a good choice.

Warlocks 2: God Slayers is an action-platformer game that offers tons of replayability thanks to its customisable characters and RPG elements. It has some rough edges when it comes to its basic mechanics, but it can be enjoyable if you have a couple of friends to join on its local co-op modes.

With a revamped presentation, Knights of Pen & Paper 2 Deluxiest Edition delivers a simple but entertaining entry into the series. If you’ve played the first game, this is more of the same.

In Knight Swap, Chess is transformed into a puzzle game where you have to play with the possibilities and limitations of the Knight’s L movement. It is a bit too similar to its spiritual-brother Unlock the King, but offers more of the Chess-puzzle experience.

Bridge Builder Adventure isn’t quite the adventure it promises, and is a solid bridge-building puzzler only. You’ll probably need a keen interest in engineering to play it through and then take down a harder difficulty, though.

Time Carnage is tough, but has some irritatingly unprecise controls. It's certainly an enjoyable arcade shooter though.

Sigi - A Fart for Melusina is a fun, retro inspired platformer and whilst you probably won't be revisiting this flatulent little fella too often it's a lovingly inspired homage to some Nintendo greats.

Despite being labeled a remaster, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning shows signs of its age and rocky development history. It has enough qualities to appeal to fans of western RPGs, but only if you’ve already played the better options available.

Sleep Attack is a moreish tower defence with a unique mechanic that makes it feel different to those which we’ve played before. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it does insert the wheel into a genre where we’re not used to seeing it.

Definitely one for the kids, Qbics Paint is something that will provide some enjoyment for a younger audience - or simply those wanting a simple application to pass the time. The features included do the job to a decent standard, although other titles have managed to provide a more streamlined artistic toolkit in the past. There are perhaps better alternatives available for art-based games, although the premise behind Qbics does stand out as being its own identity, and this cetainly isn’t the worse purchase you could make.

An online leaderboard, a simple online one-on-one feature or some extra move sets with over-the-top special attacks would make this game reach new heights, but that’s not what Sky Scrappers is about and it’s not afraid to keep things painfully straightforward.

Overall, Revita is a fun and challenging twin-stick roguelite game that offers players some different and exciting gameplay features to learn and master. There are better roguelites out there, but why not try them all?

Soundfall might sound pretty great on paper, but the execution could have been better. It’s missing the creativity that could have elevated it to greater heights. What we’re left with is a promising shooter that falls into repetition disappointingly often.

Blair Witch, much like Layers of Fear, offers a take on horror which focuses on a descent into insanity. It’s quite short, clocking in at 6-7 hours, but it is atmospheric, and is at its best when you plug some headphones in.

Overall, Lonesome Village succeeds at what it sets out to do. It doesn’t do anything unique, and it isn’t without its flaws; if you’re looking for something that offers a relaxing, chilled experience, then this one is for you.

While intriguing, Dreamo’s mysterious narrative and environments don’t feel particularly connected to the core puzzle gameplay. Luckily, the well-designed challenges and puzzles alone make it worth checking out if you’re a fan of these sorts of relaxed, first-person puzzle games.

Primordia is a solid story with a point-and-click adventure built around it. A few unique mechanics keep things fresh throughout, whilst fantastic writing keeps frustration at bay when trying to solve the mostly logical puzzles.

Dungeons of Dreadrock doesn’t do anything substantially new but manages to feel interesting and unique because of the way each level has been hand-crafted, carefully considering the interactions between the few mechanics at your fingertips.

Formula Retro Racing is pleasingly accessible and will offer instant nostalgia to 90s arcade-dwellers. Yet its lack of depth, online options, and long-term replayability means that only the most dedicated petrolheads will persist for long.

With fun puzzle gameplay, Pokémon to catch and a decent serving of charm and polish, Pokémon Café Mix offers enough to satisfy the hunger of many a Pokémon fan, but it’s slow mechanics and lack of depth may cause others to shop elsewhere.

While performance and visual downgrades make it difficult to recommend the Switch version, Chronos: Before the Ashes is an intriguing and enjoyable rework of a once VR-exclusive title. Its unique ageing mechanic makes it worth looking into for souls fans.

Fun but flawed. Brilliant but bugged. Delightful yet disappointing. The list of opposing adjectives that can be used to describe PGA 2K21 is a long one. In short, it’s well worth a purchase if you can overlook the current performance issues.

Super Wiloo Demake is a very basic platformer that won’t set the world alight. It’s decent enough, though – but don’t expect as much fun as you’d have in a Super Mario Bros game.

OctaFight is easy to pick up and play, and needs little time to master. Bombing your opponents off the screen to win is great fun, but with no online multiplayer or single-player, make sure you have at least one friend to battle with.

There’s nothing quite as agonising as getting every penny in a house only to get hit by an enemy and leave with nothing. But The Swindle does feel good when it’s going well. It’s just very, very tricky.

What it lacks in depth, 10 Second Run Returns makes up for in sharp, fun levels. If you enjoy a good platforming romp then this will scratch a short-term itch. But it won’t go far beyond that.

Similar to other Minimol games, HexON is a relaxing puzzler that is perfect to be played in short bursts. Despite demanding some weird precision when it comes to controls, it works well as an unpretentious pastime.

Dininho Adventures is a short side-scrolling platformer that can be enjoyed by gamers of all ages. With a pleasant pixel-art style and solid gameplay, it may be a worthy option for a low budget adventurer.

Siegecraft Commander is a colourful, easily accessible take on the RTS genre that beautifully blends elements of Tower Defence titles. Unfortunately, variations in matches are few and far between, and awkward controls juxtapose the easily accessible nature that Blowfish Studios have managed to accomplish.

Some frustrating camera angles can make Monochrome World somewhat stressful, but getting to roll a cute round pink raindrop shaped like a raccoon makes it all okay. The price is right, so if you like action puzzle games consider this for your collection.

The Escapists 2 puts you in the shoes of a prisoner and tasks you with grabbing the dangling carrot of freedom. If you are a fan of the previous game or a fan of resource management and strategising then this game will be right up your alley. With the ability to play with others, this can end up being riotous fun. However, as a newcomer to the series, I found the mechanics to the game a little overwhelming and unwelcoming - which unfortunately detracted from my enjoyment of the game.

Enchanting Mahjong Match might be a repetitive title by design but even with the flaws it has the title still holds up as an engaging puzzler for the Nintendo Switch.

As an arcade alternative to FIFA, Legendary Eleven is fun enough. It has nowhere near the depth, though - and cutting out the crashes would help.

Thunder Force AC may not be the shining light of the SEGA AGES collection, but space shooter fans and high-score enthusiasts will certainly be able to enjoy the experience. It’s short, but decent enough arcade fun.

Reason – Casual Puzzle doesn’t do anything exciting or new. Instead, it offers a familiar Sokoban experience; a simple, but perfectly enjoyable pastime for puzzle fans on a budget.

Tinker Racers makes the act of racing across sinks, chairs, and printers every toy car fan’s delight. It lacks the polish seen in other miniature driving games, but trying to survive against foes is a joy in bite-sized bursts.

Sausage Sports Club is an enjoyable party title with bags of humour. It's a little silly, but you should get some enjoyment here.

With great presentation and an entertaining narrative, Poison Control is a weird mixture of dungeon crawler, visual novel and third-person shooter. It could have been the next great niche title, if not for its problematic shooting mechanics.

Rogue Company seems a little bit too bare-bones in this early stage to be considered the Switch’s next killer online experience. It’s worth keeping an eye out to see if any new modes are added, but it’s perhaps too early to give it a recommendation just yet.

Lyrica 2: Stars Align is an enjoyable rhythm game, regardless of whether you’re listening to its music or not. It isn’t groundbreaking, but the challenge provided with each level will keep you engaged throughout the main story and beyond.

A Street Cat’s Tale is a reasonable choice for the die-hard cat people out there, but the gameplay may be too straightforward to keep you engaged for hours on end. Playing in short bursts is key to enjoying this one.

Astrologaster is a light comedic take on Elizabethan England, with all of its nonsensical religious and social hang-ups exposed to ridicule. Occasional hints of more serious social commentary add some depth, but the astrology mechanism is under-utilised.

Despite delivering a good story with nice sounds and effects, Yuoni: Rises’ faux VR aspect is likely a lot more effective with a VR headset, and doesn’t translate all that well to the Switch. It’s worth it if you love Japanese urban legends, though.

While Nicole provides several hours of entertainment, you might need a guide and some positive RNG in order to get through it properly. The visual-novel mode option provides a nice alternative if the romance is all you’re really looking for.

Red Game Without a Great Name is a decent mobile, arcade-style game that shows the versatility of the Switch's hardware. At a good price it's hard to criticise what it achieves, although it makes me wonder whether it is worth picking up on this console, as it probably runs better on your phone.

Atomine is a gripping indie twin-stick shooter with plenty of level variation and unlockables to satisfy its players. Although it can often feel unfair, the gameplay is genuinely captivating and inspires players to become the ultimate hacking machine.

All in all, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments is full of delightful puzzles, multiple endings, and amazing voice acting. However, agonizing load times really hold the game back from achieving its full potential.

Creepy, disturbing, and just a little bit cheesy, Night Book is sure to provide a few fun evenings. If you’re a fan of choosing your own adventure, this game will get you playing and playing again to try and get the best ending.

Iro Hero takes solid idea and does some fun things with it but falls flat due to poor balance and a punishing difficulty.

Sam and Max Save The World brings the crime-solving duo back for a modern audience and its new lick of paint is very welcome. Annoying flaws are a shame, but it will have you laughing as you go.

What The Fall offers in story and atmosphere is a little let down by some clunky controls. It's an enjoyable exploration which will be lengthened by some difficult puzzles if you don't use a guide, so by all means go for it if you didn't try it on Wii U.

Connect the dots and you’ll find that One Line Coloring is an extremely simplistic puzzler. However, it’s hard to criticise a game that does exactly what it promises in a well-presented and pleasant package, that uses the Switch’s touch-screen functionality well.

Inspired by Super Mario Bros. 2, Onion Assault delivers an unusual platform experience that brings certain puzzle-like features to the linear levels. Unfortunately, the platforming gameplay isn’t as slick as these cool concepts.

Golf With Your Friends might not be the ultimate multiplayer golf experience but there is still enough variety here to have a good time. Even when playing single player the intricate courses will keep you entertained.

While the precision and jankiness can be more frustrating than it needs to be, Area 86 is a fun collection of physics-based escape room challenges that fans of the Portal universe may get a kick out of.

Raging Justice offers as-it-says-on-the-tin beat-em-up action, but irritating controls make it not quite the seamless experience it could be. Fortunately, co-op and leaderboards will keep you coming back.

Yuri’s unique premise, incredible soundtrack and beautifully crafted levels are not enough to detract from the poor platforming gameplay on offer here. With too many alternative eShop hits to mention, Yuri’s success is likely to remain a pipe dream.

Beautifully presented and very reasonably priced, Gardener’s Path is a puzzle game that steadily builds in its challenge to offer a satisfying excursion. Not wholly original, but nevertheless it’s a pleasant ramble if you keep off the cacti.

Neon Junctions yields solid – if unspectacular – puzzle-platforming, and never quite achieves the level of challenge or innovation that will make it stand out in your collection. Still, there are worse ways one could spend ninety minutes.

Apico has addictive elements and a gorgeous aesthetic, but it’s marred by slowdown, glitches, and a lack of real engagement with the bees. The right patch could make this an excellent, if limited life-sim.

There’s not much new to see here if you played the first game, but Gnomes Garden 3 is certainly fun, and comes at a budget price. It’s worth a look.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 does a decent job of bringing the game into 2021, however it falls short in a few unnecessary ways that might keep newcomers to the series from enjoying it.

Omno is a short experience that provides a lot of satisfaction to completionists and casual gamers alike. It has a wonderful soundtrack to accompany the astonishingly well realised world that you’ll explore and complete puzzles in over the course of a single afternoon.

Minecraft Legends takes a beloved and familiar IP and tries to extract something new from it. The results are arguably mixed, however, as an introduction to the Strategy genre, Legends provides enough fun to get by.

Battle Princess Madelyn seeks to emulate the likes of Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, to some success. The old-school gameplay may hinders the modern elements from its History mode, but the game still delivers a fun experience.

Short, but impactful. Interesting, but flawed. Umurangi Generation Special Edition is a photography-centered experience that is sometimes weird, sometimes contemplative, but thoroughly unique.
