You'll ride camels across the deserts of Pastilla, venture deep into the snowy mountains of Salmiakki, and even visit a volcano near the cozy mountain town of Lebkuchen! Can you imagine a world without cabbage, tomatoes, or even carrots? Believe it or not, that's the world you'll find yourself in at the beginning of Harvest Moon: One World, as the Harvest Goddess, the queen of crops herself, has vanished... However, before the Harvest Goddess disappeared from this world, she imbued the tiny Harvest Wisps with the knowledge of various seeds, thus ensuring the various fruits and vegetables of the world would not be lost. Using the power given to these Harvest Wisps, you'll unlock various seeds as you progress through the game! But the Harvest Wisps can be tricky to find, as they all appear at different times and places. You'll need to use your noggin to make sure you seek out as many of them as you can. Expand

If you’ve always wanted to try out a Harvest Moon title, then Harvest Moon: One World is a great entry point. As I can attest, no prior knowledge of previous games is required. So go forth, farm, and save the world, one crop at a time.

Harvest Moon One World lives up to its name and lets players travel through a world with different climate zones and challenges. There are countless plants to grow, which creates the typical farming pull very well. It would be a good game if quest givers didn't just fade away and someone would put more effort into the graphics.

One World stays faithful to the series: once again you’ll need to slowly build up your farm and improve relationships with the neighbors. “Slowly” is the keyword here: the process is so monotonous, it takes a particular kind of gamer to enjoy Harvest Moon. [Issue#253, p.64]
  4. Harvest Moon: One World is a game that is weak against its rivals with its structure reminiscent of mobile games. It's not bad, but it's definitely not a $50 game either.

Harvest Moon: One World is the latest game in the Harvest Moon franchise. It can be relaxing but it feels like it’s stuck in the past. We would definitely recommend to wait for a discount.

While the changing biomes and surfaces are a nice idea, the core with its simplified farm labor is presented too lackluster and monotonous.

If you're looking for the next Stardew Valley, this doesn't even come close. Harvest Moon: One World is a poor imitation of what the series once was, and it feels more like a rushed mobile game than a full-fledged Switch game. These games have always been about chores, but this one feels like a chore to play. In our opinion, your money is better spent on something that respects you as a fan of the genre.

This game is getting too much unfair hate. People need to give it more of a chance before hating on it.

Let’s be honest, the bar was pretty low with Natsume’s recent handling of the Harvest Moon name. The graphics are bad aside from the marriage candidates, and there are some quality of life issues, but ultimately I found myself having a lot of fun. Do I think it’s going to compare to the new Story of Seasons or Rune Factory 5? No. But despite that, I still like One World and want to support Natsume continuing in this direction - because I *love* these types of games and want there to be as much competition as possible in the future.

For people who are on the fence about this game - if you enjoy these types of games, get it. It may be clunky, but it’s addicting and in my opinion gets the job done and satisfies that distinct farming game craving.

However, it leaves a lot to be desired.

    The Good:
New mechanics and exploring a different direction. You can move your farm! That's pretty cool and convenient to some extent. It certainly helped in getting the story done. Crop Hybrids. Still haven't figured out entirely how this works but essentially it seems to encourage risking growing a crop out of season or in a different field type for a hybrid. Can be annoying in some regards but I'll detail that in The Bad.

Quality of life improvements! Previous games often had you opening the inventory, finding the tool you wanted, equipping it, then using it. Or a sort scrolling quick menu. This has watered it down to basically pressing a single button to use the tool. It might be too simple for some but I frankly like it.

Better menu. Allows you to clearly see goals and requests. See the map easier. Can tell the friendship and likes/dislikes of people you meet. Calendar displays weather for up to 7 days in the area. Can warp to places as you unlock them.

    The Bad
Boring world: The walls of the game are literally just raised ground with assets in accessible areas but inaccessible. For something that seems like it's meant to feel more open, it also makes it feel empty.

Bland NPCs: So the bachelors and bachelorettes seem actually fantastic as far as design and personality. However, their dialog feels lacking along with the rest of the NPCs. Other NPCs that have actual names don't stand out at all, they have almost no personality, and just as lacking in dialog. To go another step further at how bland the NPCs are, most have names such as "Quiet Woman" or "Awkward Man." You definitely don't get any charm from them. To top it off, NPCs don't walk anywhere. They simply appear and disappear in certain areas when it's their time to show up/leave.

Useless feature among the new mechanic: You get seeds by finding Harvest Sprites. The menu allows you to search for seeds via Harvest Wisp so long as you've found it before. Initially this sounds useful. However, Wisps also only appear under certain conditions and times. The search feature does not list this. So even if you found the Wisp, you have to essentially be near it at the right time to actually see it. You can see the icon of the crop appear on the world map, but it doesn't indicate exactly where it is.

No indication of what field type it is: While some are quite obvious, I've run into some that the characters call "Mountain" but it looks about the same as the grasslands or I'm not entirely sure if it's different but there's a field near the beach area but it's also grass. I wasn't sure if because it's in the same unlocked area as the beach if it counted as beach but unless the crops growing mutations or dying is rng based and I've been incredibly lucky, it seems like it must also be grassland. I suppose the beach one is very limited then as I've only found one area for it.

Stuttering and Game closing: Stuttering didn't make it unplayable but the game closed due to an error and that's pretty concerning.

Stamina: Seems to go away from walking. Not too much an issue but certainly annoying especially with something as indirect as hearts gauge. Would much rather a bar or something more quantifiable. Makes playing in the desert and mountains rather annoying.

All in all I think Natsume took quite a few strides in the right direction as far as gameplay. However, they severely lacked as far as putting any depth into the game that gives it the charm that Story of Season or Stardew Vally or Rune Factory manages. I don't know that I could honestly recommend this game to anyone, but if they keep in this direction or make changes it might be worth it.

Possibly the worst HM game in recent memory...

    (1) The Graphics are pretty bad in general, with significant stuttering and pop-in while walking.
    (2) They attempted to "simply" things, by making everything function with a simple press of the "a" button. It feels generic and geared towards a very young audience (i.e. mobile gaming feel).
    (3) Walking reduces stamina, which is just insane given the size of the maps and the idea of an expanded "world".
    (4) Navigating the menus is trash.
    (5) The entire way you farm has completely changed. No longer are you buying seeds and creating a massive garden/business. Instead, seeds are nearly cost prohibitive and you randomly find seeds on the map from sprites. It's dumb and makes less sense given that you drain stamina while walking.
    (6) Time flows when you enter buildings, which can be annoying.
    (7) Not a fan of the farm migration and seed collection mechanics, which are untraditional and don't offer much engagement.
    (8) Game feels lazily made and lacks polish and charm.

The only reason I’m giving this game more than 0 is solely for the art. It’s about the only thing that makes me happy with this game.
The price they charge versus the gameplay we get is atrocious. I genuinely feel bad that my boyfriend bought me this game. I wish he could get his money back.
The game avatars aren’t bad, sort of similar to Pokemon shield, but the map is basically a sandbox filled with nothing. The towns don’t even have roads. No NPCs other than the romances have names and they all teleport in and out of existence depending on the time of day.
There’s absolutely zero effort put into the missions on this game. I finally started to get requests in the mail from Gabrielle and Doc & the very next day after completing them, I received the exact same requests again. And the requests don’t even pay you money but everything in the game that can help you is over 1,000.

The horses (THAT ARE ABSOLUTELY NEEDED) cost over 20,000$ and if you can’t afford that, guess what you’re walking.

Which wouldn’t be a problem, if everything wasn’t so spaced out and filled with absolutely nothing in between and if walking didn’t push your character to the point of passing out every-time.

I barely make it home without passing out after walking to the beach town.

I really wanted to like this, I really did. I’ve put in hours in an attempt to. But the loading times, the lack of...well ANY THING worth doing and the very clear lack of effort put into just about every bit of this game by the producer makes me want to delete this off my switch.

Save your money. It’s not worth it.
