Crystal Dynamics listened and proceeded to make a game that softens the problems its predecessor had. It’s a satisfying adventure with plenty of content, some spectacular sequences and survival elements that fit a bit more in the mix. Unfortunately, while being very good, it’s not a masterpiece due to some not-so-great shooting, some technical bugs, and a narrative that, while making more sense than that of its predecessor, still has some weak and ridiculous moments. We do understand that action sells, but dampening it a bit to recapture some of the spirit of the originals would have been a great idea.

At the end of the story, many of the faces encountered during this adventure will be kept somewhere, deep in your heart. Beyond: Two Souls is able to keep your emotions extremely high from the beginning to the ending(s). Unfortunately, David Cage didn't prove that it's possible to tell such a good story without sacrificing the gameplay.

Tim Shafer is back (in Black!) with an original action-adventure game that finds its strength in an awesome art direction and an innovative gameplay that mixes pure action into real time strategy. The result is a funny rollercoaster ride between over the top characters and beautiful environments. On the other hand, controls are sometimes frustrating, A.I. is disappointing, and the overall lasting appeal of the game suffers from a short single player campaign. Nonetheless, if you're looking for an old-style funny adventure, a post-modern fairytale, or the work of artists of the art direction, this is the game to buy this fall.

Resident Evil Requiem is a chapter destined to divide the fan base. Its almost obsessive reliance on fan service derails what could have been an incredibly powerful narrative, resulting in a convoluted script reminiscent of the series’ CGI films. It’s a real shame, because nearly every other aspect of the production reaches remarkably high standards, occasionally brushing against excellence. The gameplay is varied and rock-solid, supported by some of the best level and game design the franchise has ever delivered, Ultimately, however, its excess of ambition prevents it from matching the brilliance of the recent remakes or the strongest canonical installments.

My Steam library is full of Warhammer 40,000-themed titles; very few are passable, a handful are good games, and the circle of excellent ones is very small. Space Marine 2 now joins as well—and it is a feast for the eyes and a faithful reproduction of the universe created by Games Workshop, a dream come true for those who grew up with this saga. The gameplay is a refined version of that third-person shooter and action mix we already appreciated in the first chapter, with a combat system that is much more technical and complex compared to its predecessor. It’s not a perfect game, mainly due to a lackluster AI and overly chaotic moments, with messy situations that lead the player to inevitable button mashing, but it’s the best video game adaptation of Games Workshop’s grimdark universe.
