In Enslaved, players take on the role of Monkey, a strong and brutish loner, and his AI partner Trip, a technologically savvy but sheltered young woman from a peaceful community. Both become captured by a mysterious slave ship, which are rumored to harvest people and take them out west never to return. As they each attempt to escape, Trip realizes quickly that Monkey, with his raw strength and power, is the only hope she has of making the perilous journey back home. She hacks into a slave headband to enslave Monkey and link them together - if she dies, he dies. Her journey has now become his. Players must make sure both Monkey and Trip work together as they skillfully navigate through the world and survive against the dangerous enemy obstacles that lie in wait. Monkey will deftly wield his trusty staff weapon to attack and defend against enemies, using a combination of melee attacks, blocks and counters. He will also be able to perform spectacular takedown moves, allowing him to rip an enemy apart piece by piece, take its weapon for his own use or destroy it in one final blow. It's easy to overlook the technical problems of Enslaved, simply because everything else is so damn compelling. This is not a checklist of what makes a game great, but taken as a whole, it IS a great game.

It might be too simple to call Enslaved: Odyssey to the West a melee-centric Uncharted, but it is not that far off and it is certainly not a bad thing.

This game has a good story and a unique setting. The emotional bond between Monkey and Trip is pretty good and the gameplay is a bit basic, but fast and nice to play. If you like good stories in games with easy gameplay and overall a great adventure, than Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is your game.

Another dark post-apocalyptic action-adventure? Nope. Enslaved introduces gamers to a gorgeous and detailed world, full of mechanical quirkiness. If you can look past his flaws, you'll be rewarded with one of the best sci-fi games of the year. Give it a try, you wont regret it!

It's a well-produced effort that makes itself easy to get invested in and is worth considering for anyone who enjoys a solid dozen-hour-long, story-driven action game. It doesn't do everything right all the time, but some grander and higher-profile games could stand to learn a lesson or two from this one.

Enslaved is sci-fi road adventure featuring a captivating story that spans the fears of a world gone crazy with technology. Despite some mediocre gameplay elements, this game is hard to put down, and you will want to play it all the way through to see how it ends.

Small victories aside, though, Ninja Theory still has a long way to go before it makes a game whose quality matches its ambitions. Reassessing its gender politics would be a good place to start.

You will want to play it. You will want to discover the rest of the story, you will want to live in the beautiful and deadly world the guys at Ninja Theory have painstakingly created. The characters are deep and well done with perfect voice and mition acting. Get this game, ignore the haters... its great! Expand

I can't say enough good things about this game, from the voice acting to Serkis's Monkey movements and environments. Highly recommended. Expand

The characters have great chemistry and the dialogue is fantastic. But with little to do in the replayability category its mark gets bumped down 1. The combat can also get a tad repetitive after awhile. The DLC while adding a few more hours still isn't nearly enough. Expand

    Enslaved Odyssey to the west
    A grind that pays off
Enslaved tells the story of trip and monkey.
The game starts out with the 2 of them escaping a slave ship, when they land, monkey finds that trip has put a device on his head to enslave or control him.
If she dies, he dies, she wants help getting back to her home and feels this is the only way she can guarantee monkey will help her.
So they set off on a post apocalyptical adventure to take trip home
This game is a platform adventure game,
A very prince of Persia feel to it,
You spend most of the game traversing walls, and hopping across bars
with the occasional combat with mechs
The combat system is fairly simple with block, heavy attacks, light attacks, and blasters.
You can stun and shoot enemies, or just go hand to hand,
But again, combat is very few and far between,
This is mostly climbing and solving puzzles by communicating back and forth with Trip
The gameplay is pretty fun and addictive most of the way through the game,
I love the adventure as much as I loved the fluent and responsive platforming that never got too complex…
But it slowly becomes repetitive and the final 3rd of the game just becomes a flat out drag
The world goes from colorful and mysterious to gray, brown, and boring..
The only thing that kept me going was the story of Trip and Monkey, and I was so happy I followed through.
Its just a shame I felt like I had to force myself through the final hours.
If you love story you’ll love Enslaved, if you’re here for the gameplay, look elsewhere.
I give Enslaved Odyssey to The West

I don't mind its linearity, but I found its combat system a bit unappealing (I barely used some of the moves I unlocked through the game, except in the sections that required to do so) and its plot borderline between shallow and intriguing. It's not one of those games that spoon feed every plot element and it requires you to keep attention to details, every once in a while, but this is not a problem. The problem is that the ending comes and goes at light speed. I understand that maybe the developers wanted to leave it open to interpretation (or they expected to make a sequel), but the game ends almost abruptly after the final boss. And by the way, boss fights are VERY underwhelming and way too easy. The art direction is stellar, though. Awesome, lush environments and a lot of inventive.
Overall it's not a bad game, as I already mentioned, but it could have been better.

Unable to give their games mechanical depth, Ninja Theory hide the lack of quality in their games through well-acted (though poorly written) cutscenes and desperately hope they don't choke the console running them as bad as the gameplay does. The performance on PS3 is absolutely terrible, but fortunately there's nothing to the game, so outside of horrendously designed combat scenarios that cause the framerate to drop into single digits, you won't be in real danger, even when Monkey takes forever to respond to button presses. The story is also totally worthless; your suspension of disbelief will have been thoroughly shattered by the end of the tutorial section, then savagely beaten across the subsequent chapters. There is simply no compelling reason to buy this game. Expand
