Great RPG skirmishes, depth of gameplay, ideas that still seem fresh and varied gameplay make Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven irresistible, and not just for retro fans. However, some elements such as a certain lifelessness of the game world and repetitive sequences are no longer really up to date. Whether you appreciate unique features such as the generation change or reject them outright is certainly a matter of taste.- GAMES.CH

When a game has a title like Squirrel with a Gun you probably know what you are in for. It is very silly and absurd. That is the game's selling point. It completely delivers on that front. It however doesn’t really deliver when it comes to playing the game. While it’s easy to come to terms with the wonky physics, subpar technical aspects and not much content to dig into, the controls are what makes the game a chore to play. Still there is certainly fun to be had just based on the incredible premise itself.- GAMES.CH

The Patrick Star Game is just like its main character: chaotic, funny and sometimes a little uncouth. Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream is a double-edged sword, so to speak. On the one hand, it captures the fast-paced action of the anime hit excellently in the multiplayer battles. Starship Troopers: Extermination is a one trick pony whose one trick is almost perfectly creating the feeling of being overwhelmed by an unrelenting horde of alien bugs. While the package as a whole, especially the sparse selection of maps and modes and the laughably bad singleplayer, is nothing remarkable, when Starship Troopers: Extermination fires on all cylinders, it can be immensely entertaining to the right type of player. Let’s hope they can build out on that strength more than they did during Early Access.- GAMES.CH

Even 13 years later, Sonic Generations is still one thing above all else: pure and, most importantly, lightning-fast platforming fun! The great levels are packed with little details, the graphics and soundtrack are beautiful and Shadow's appearance makes the experience even better. The core gameplay loop is entertaining enough. The nonstop action feels fun and the pixel-art is gorgeous. Unfortunately the gameplay is brought down by the awkward feeling wall jump mechanic, too much repetition and boring bosses. Not every single game mode might be more than a nice bonus. But especially with the Jamboree Buddies system and some other creative inventions the core board game mode benefits a lot. Until Dawn remains a great adventure that feels like a teenie-slasher movie you can play yourself. Beside some technically issues it looks great within the new engine, but does not improve enough to make it a worth buy if you already played the PS4 original. The announcement of an official modding tool alone is likely to bring tears of joy to the eyes of "Frostpunk" fans. The setting remains attractive, the artwork and gameplay are equally clever, even if the novelty value has worn off a bit. But everything is now bigger, more complex and more impressive, and it is remarkable how smoothly 11 bit has interlocked the various elements and made them shine. There is always something to do in "Frostpunk 2", even if the feeling of a living game world, as one is used to from "Anno 1800", is missing here simply because of the thematic requirements. Anyone who wants an extraordinary experience and some real gaming challenges will feel at home in the eternal ice.- GAMES.CH

If you liked Dead Rising then you will love Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. It’s still just as much fun to take out hordes of zombies using a stack of CDs, a giant parasol or various gardening tools. Compared to the original “Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster” is a much smoother and painless experience. This might be a problem for the people who already adore that game. For everybody else it makes it simply much more enjoyable. Enotria: The Last Song tends to get lost in its own ambitions. While it breathes fresh air into the grim and hopeless apocalypses souls-likes tend to portray, the additions to the combat and character customization tend to weigh it down. While Akimbot doesn’t do much to iterate on the Ratchet and Clank formula, it does a good job at capturing the fluid movement and combat. Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 sets a new standards not only for games set in the 41st Millennia, but also for horde based shooters. Emio: The Smiling Man is not only a great example of Nintendo keeping a close eye on the wishes of its fan community, but also a really exciting detective story with several twists that we didn't see coming. In addition, like in a good novel by Agatha Christie and co., the developers manage to make us play games of thought as the story progresses about who the culprit is - only to discard them and replace them with others. The world design is fabulous and the creatures are lovely. The story is moving and topical and the characters have a lot of heart. Despite all of this Creatures of Ava becomes very repetitive very quickly. Puzzles and platforming aren’t especially exciting and the taming of the creatures can become frustrating due to an unwieldy camera. Bleak Faith: Forsaken is a game with a very strong vision. It puts players in a world almost comically oversized with no direction and just the sound of footsteps on metal floors. Later an impressive orchestral soundtrack paints a picture of a past long decayed while players are left alone, disoriented and lost. As a package Super Woden GP II is an absolute love letter to the last three decades of racing games. It offers smooth and fun racing as well as a ton of tracks and cars. It is old-school by design, with all its pros and cons. Unfortunately, "Cygni" didn't really convince us. Yes, the game looks incredibly good and conjures up a real fireworks display on the screen. And yes, the snappy bullet hell battles are fun. Nevertheless, we felt that the spark of genius that is necessary for a game of this genre was missing. The balance between the difficulty levels isn't really right. The pacing within the missions isn't right for our taste either: "Cygni" keeps us stuck at certain points too often, and far too often these snapshots drag on too much. Then the action game is almost boring despite all its qualities. And the upgrade system and its options could also be more intuitive. All in all, "Cygni: All Guns Blazing" turns out to be a solid action game with some clever approaches and a first-class presentation. Fate Seeker II is simply overwhelming in most aspects. With 20 fighting styles that each sport an enormous amount of attacks and combos, a plethora of side activities and a main story with more important characters than I could count it is just a lot. But a lot of this works surprisingly well despite all of this. The puzzles and investigations are especially great as is the main story and its cast once you start to see how everything and everyone is connected in one way or another. The Monster Hunter Stories Collection for PlayStation delivers around 70 to 80 hours of pleasant gameplay with fine round-based combat and a motivating character system. The remastered version of part 1 increases the experience by some nice visual improvements and benefits a lot from the totally new voiceover. It’s not on eye level with current productions, but that does not affect the atmosphere too much. The second part Wings of Ruin is still the better game with a richer world and a more complex combat system. But if you already played it on a PC or Switch, you do not experience much new. In total, the Monster Hunter Stories Collection is a rich compilation of two games, you should play if you like the Monster Hunter series and round based combat.- GAMES.CH

Both the jokes and puns as well as most of the puzzles can be enjoyed by people of almost all ages. Duck Detective: The Secret Salami offers a short narrative that doesn’t overstay its welcome and is for the most part very engaging for two to three hours. The English voicecast is fantastic but with the text only being available in English as well it’s unfortunately not accessible all around the world.- GAMES.CH

xDefiant presents itself as a very strong foundation of a game that is supposed to last for all the content to come and hopefully many years. It is currently plagued by some technical issues that can cause severe frustration but the developers are already aware of those problems so they will hopefully be fixed in time. The gunplay is more than solid and the base experience is fun and thrilling.- GAMES.CH

Not perfect, but still a great racing game: Codemasters delivers on the track and give players tons of amazing looking racing-action. The revamped career-mode brings in fresh ideas, but feels flooded with side-quests and numbers. Nonetheless, "F1 24" is a treat for every racing-fan.- GAMES.CH

System Shock is a masterful remake of an absolute classic. While much of the old essence is left largely unchanged, such as the intricate level design and the chilling atmosphere, the game has been enhanced subtly to highlight its strengths and adapt to a modern audience. System Shock shows that old and new can sometimes go hand in hand and blend together to a timeless masterpiece.- GAMES.CH

Sending your own superhero into the race is a brave move and, at least in terms of play, it really works here. There's plenty of scope to come up with your own solutions, and figuring out the best strategy makes the hours fly by. The fact that the ambitious story is not supported by a corresponding character design is regrettable, but in view of the undeniable gameplay qualities it is easy to get over.- GAMES.CH

Hauntii is certainly stunningly gorgeous and can make you feel incredibly smart whenever you find and solve one of its many puzzles. Unfortunately the game demands you to find and solve almost all of those puzzles which isn’t always easy to do. The map doesn’t offer a lot of help and it can lead to pointless and frustrating roaming around. The slower Twinstick-Shooter gameplay on the other hand is not too challenging but offers somewhat relaxing action moments.- GAMES.CH

INDIKA is a wild ride through an alternate Russia in the 19th century. The often philosophical story and the three fascinating main characters carry the game even in the moments where it’s getting dragged down by dull gameplay. Paired with an excellent soundtrack and extremely dark humor the developers show that they are capable of making incredible interactive entertainment.- GAMES.CH

More than just an expansion with interesting mechanics and wonderful additions to the sprawling lore of Total War: Warhammer 3, the newly released Thrones of Decay shows a willingness from Creative Assembly to listen to fans and learn from past mistakes. Another Crab’s Treasure proves to be a creative and playful entry in to the Soulslike genre. The colourful look makes it a stand out between all its dark and gloomy counterparts. Little Kitty, Big City has a lot of problems with its controls and other technical aspects. In the end those problems did not bother me too much though. Guiding the Kitty through the city, meeting cute little animal friends and just doing what cats are known to do was very pleasant and fun. The game is never too challenging or also never puts any animals at risk, which makes it perfect for a cute little romp over one or two play sessions.- GAMES.CH

Wildfrost manages to be one of those "easy to learn, hard to master" type of games, as the core mechanics are simple enough, yet the game ramps up the difficulty substantially, so a lot of runs will take a bad turn quickly. While the name change from Stellaris: Nexus to Nexus 5X may not have worked in the game’s favour, Nexus 5“ does deserve to stand in the spotlight. It manages to condense the dozens of ours of a traditional 4X game into 60-90 minutes while retaining much of the strategic maneuvering and political intrigue. While it may not appease those wanting to pour in hour after hour in single-player matches, those looking for faster, more accessible games or that focus on multiplayer should definitely give this one a look.- GAMES.CH

Although Tales of Kenzera: Zau cannot shine with outstanding gameplay innovations, it does offer rock-solid, well-balanced and very fluid Metroidvania gameplay. The two masks in particular fit perfectly into the beautifully staged African setting and considerably expand the agile Zau's range of abilities. It's also nice how fluidly and responsively everything can be controlled and how much passion went into the soundtrack, the voice acting and the story. There's also little to complain about in terms of level design, although the bottom line is that we would have liked even more variation in the enemy types.- GAMES.CH
