Spellforce 3: Reforced is a competent mix of strategy and RPG that even manages to tell an interesting story. With many ways different to play, from cooperative campaigns to competitive matches, this should have been an easy recommendation. Sadly, our extended test period was suffering from several progress-blocking bugs, some dating back all the way to the game’s original release. No matter how refreshing the game is when it works, the knowledge that the next broken quest and mission isn’t far away leaves a bitter taste in the end. We sincerely hope the developers can fix enough of the issues to let the game shine for the gem it can be.

The 16:9 format in anniversary mode provides a much better overview when playing, the performance is great, unlimited lives in anniversary mode prevent frustration for newcomers and the numerous extras such as the 60 challenge missions, the new intro and outro cutscenes, the mirror mode that can be unlocked and the museum mode fit in well. Sadly Tails' AI isn’t very reliable, a few features known from fan-remakes are missing (like a save-state function) and the two DLC packages leave a stale aftertaste. What remains is a not error-free, but nevertheless entertaining collection of Sonic hits.

While OlliOlli World Void Riders doesn’t innovate much, it offers a heap of new challenges, outfits and a fun, new gravity-defying gameplay mechanic. Fire Emblem Warrior: Three Hopes turns out to be an ambitious sequel to the previous game and is ahead of it in several aspects. However, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is not free of criticism. The automatic camera, for example, sometimes behaves a bit strangely in cramped situations, the mission design seems a bit repetitive after a dozen hours and the fact that the audio synchro is again not available in German could also annoy one or the other player.

The offered amount of playable characters, arenas and unique game modes could be better. But each match in Mario Strikers: Battle League Football plays differently, even against the AI. The game is easy to learn but difficult to master, why there is a natural long-term motivation, especially when you play it online. With The Quarry, Supermassive Games isn't reinventing the interactive story genre. Much is reminiscent of Until Dawn or The Dark Pictures Anthology. However, the developers have refined their storytelling again. So The Quarry offers more branches within the given story paths than the previous titles. Roller Champions delivers a high dynamic gameplay, that's easy to learn and hard to master. A great fun-sport game that's simple on the one hand and motivating skill-based on the other. It is sad Ubisoft uses a F2P system trying to fleece the gamers prone for that kind of business model. Because as a low-budget or mid-price title widely without that, it could have been close to a new Rocket League.

Your view of Sniper Elite 5 highly depends on what you expect of a good sequel. It delivers the same semi-open-world stealth shooting that its predecessor did so well. However it fails to add anything significant to the formula aside from a graphical update. In certain areas it even feels leaner than the 2017 Sniper Elite 4. It’s still an enjoyable experience and certain additions like the new invasion mode that combines PvP and PvE do offer new takes on the formula. The core gameplay however remains a little too far in the comfort zone for our taste.

Evil Dead: The Game gets enough things right to be enjoyable for a week or two, especially if you’re nostalgic for the franchise. However, it doesn’t offer enough content and variety, especially on the survivor’s side to entertain for a long time. The meager single player challenges hide some neat unlocks but are ultimately more tedious than fun and don’t even come close to make this a viable product for those looking for a purely offline experience. With its exciting story and characters, the next-gen worthy visuals and especially the great sense of humor we can warmly recommend Eidos Montreal's Guardians of the Galaxy not just for fans of the franchise. Just the fights are a little bit too chaotic for getting a strong feeling of control on the battlefields in sum.

A good sequel with high replay value for this kind of games and with some minor technical advantages for users on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. If you like the series, you need to play it. If not, House of Ashes won't change your mind about the series.

Anyone who loved "Left 4 Dead" and can accept that special zombies in co-op mode are not controlled by other online players will have a lot of fun with "Back 4 Blood". Difficulty spikes, the lack of a split-screen mode and problems with the bot AI do however lower our overall impression.

Metroid Dread is a dignified sequel to a sacred games series. The almost invincible E.M.M.I. can be annoying, but other than that, you get a fully-fleshed metroidvania that combines new mechanics with traditional Metroid gameplay in the best sense.

Far Cry 6 is going to be somewhat divisive. Those that enjoy the series for its sandbox and the ability to wreak havoc with a large assortment of weapons and vehicles may find this to be the best the series has ever been. Those, like me, who enjoyed the antagonists, and the more scripted main missions may be disappointed to see the new villain, played by the brilliant Giancarlo Espacito, almost completely wasted. He barely makes a presence and when he does, the series is too comfortable treading the same ground as past titles. Nonetheless, this is an excellent Open-World shooter that trades any surprises it may have for very solid, streamlined Ubisoft gameplay.

Of course Alan Wake Remastered does not outbid the visuals of the current gen references, but Remedy does a great job bringing the graphics into the year 2021. Everything looks much better, sharper and more detailed, without distorting the special and intense atmosphere of the 360 original. Beside that, Alan Wake remains a great mixture of horror story and action with tactical light use and a huge dose of kaboom. If you don't know Alan Wake yet, you need to play the Remastered right now. If you are a fan of the original, the remastered version is a great opportunity to revisit Bright Falls.

Combining the three best games in its series, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania offers great value for very little. While the game certainly primarily seeks the attention of a younger audience, core gamers might also enjoy it due to precise controls and a neat challenge mode.

In Sound Mind offers a varied and unique horror experience that aims to unsettle you without the reliance on gore or jumpscares. Instead, this deep delve into the human psyche offers creative puzzles, interesting monsters and story that you won’t want to put down. The game’s presentation does suffer from outdated textures, an occasionally choppy framerate and some odd lighting issues. But the experience as a whole far outweighs the mistakes made along the way.

Knockout Home Fitness is what it says on the box: A martial arts move training game. It is, in my opinion, not a full-fledged fitness program. Yes, there are daily sessions composed by an AI, but these mainly target the arm and torso muscles. But if you use Knockout Home Fitness as a daily reminder to stretch in your home office and improve circulation, it is perfect.

FIFA 22 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S is definitely the next big step for the series – thanks to its better graphics, overhauled gameplay and a more realistic approach to football. However, Electronic Arts still has to sort out some balancing-issues that come along with the next-gen-technology.

Blizzard certainly achieves its goal to remaster Diablo 2. With slick graphics and solid gamepad support Diablo 2: Resurrected is a more than enjoyable action-RPG. It, however, does show weaknesses in the inventory and user-guidance that come along with the 21 year old classic.

It’s hard to hold any of Tormented Souls’s flaws against the game since so many of them are by design. It’s very strict adherence to the classics of survival horror means you have a game that can easily frustrate, but also captivates with its struggle for survival like very few horror titles do these days. The story is cheese and the difficulty can feel arbitrary when we have to replay entire chapters of the game after dying to a hidden trap, just because the game refuses to include checkpoints. This is, however, a game that survival-horror fans have wanted for many years and it shows that fixed camera angles and limited saves can make for an incredibly intense horror experience even today.

Lost Judgment is a good sequel to an amazing predecessor. The fighting system is fun, the mission design is very diverse, and you can still put hours into entertaining optional stuff within the vast open world. There is just one thing that makes a huge difference. Takayuki Yagami's new case is not in the least as personal and captivating as his first one. That doesn't make Lost Judgment a bad game, but it makes it clearly stand behind the first part of the spin-off series.

As most of the former Arkane titles, Deathloop is far away from being a game off the rack. The unique setting with its great artstyle makes it stand out. The fast paced Dishonored-like gameplay is fun as well as if you choose the action or the stealth path. If there weren't some issues concerning balancing or the overall poor AI, Deathloop would be close to a masterpiece. As it is, it's just another great game from Arkane Lyon that's worth to play.

One of the most fun horde shooters since Left 4 Dead 2 thanks to an excellent progression system that motivates through several playthroughs of a surprisingly varied campaign featuring three unique enemy factions, as well as spectacular cross-faction battles. Especially on higher difficulties, this becomes tactical survival rather than a light-weight horde shooter, but thanks to in-depth weapon customization and class abilities the challenge never feels unfair.
