Vermintide 2 steps on the known Left 4 Dead gameplay tropes and pushes the genre some significant steps further. The melee battle system feels rigid and organic and the various characters/ careers add some significant replay value. It respects its lore heritage, but bear in mind that it is aiming at hardcore players, who are ready to accept recurring failure and equipment/ xp grinding.

Kirby Star Allies is HAL Laboratory’s debut game on the Nintendo Switch and is definitely the perfect reminder of why the franchise has been loved over the course of years and why Kirby is an adored gaming icon. Even though the game does not reach the standards of successful Nintendo releases that have already been released on the Switch, it holds the promise of a brilliant future lying ahead. Overall, it is a fun and enjoyable journey that should be experienced with friends or members of the family.

A Way Out is an especially entertaining adventure with excellent pace, a nice variety of environments and constant introduction of new gameplay mechanics, which may be simplistic from time to time but, nevertheless, never outstay their welcome. In the end it’s a very rare example of a game designed specifically for a pure co-op experience.

The whole existence of Metal Gear Survive closely resembles this of the Wanderers – the game’s zombies. With the story, characters and wit ripped out completely off it’s body, what remains is a lifeless yet standing shell of Metal Gear Solid V. The decent (and borrowed) survival mechanics barely keep this husk walking around aimlessly with no purpose whatsoever. Survive may not be a bad survival game, but the merciless grind required and lack of respect for gamers’ time are inexcusable.

If you have played and enjoyed the first case in this detective story by Suda51, then The 25th Ward can be a good choice for a few more hours of visual novel/ noir gameplay.

After Wiley E. Coyote and Scrat, Chuchel becomes the new legend of the unsung hero fighting to gain his favorite treat. Spirited, welcoming, funny and wondrous, Chuchel is the ideal gateway game for a non gamer, an amazing family experience, a dreamy date night and a deviously inducing smile maker for the face of any gamer.

A could-be ideal indie which is, unfortunately, a big disappointment. A generally rushed game, with few of its mechanics working as they are intended to, gives the impression that it could do much more than what it actually delivers. With a battle system that often gets out of control, a gameplay that is hindered by its level design and by its own nature and with a recommended price tag that does not justify its problems, Castle of Heart is a game for the few brave in heart that can follow the stone knight to his sad journey.

Burnout Paradise was packed with action and extremely enjoyable arcade racing in its initial release, and this remastered version is equally exciting, if not more, due to the upgraded performance of the current generation of consoles.

The Royal Edition of Final Fantasy XV -due to its huge content- is targeted towards those who haven’t played the game in its initial release and for them it is a highly recommend game. On the other hand, the appreciable new content does not last long and as a result -for those who have played the original version- it can’t be a strong enough motivation to return to Eos.

An interesting and engaging game, The Raven has the same strengths and weaknesses today as it had them in its original release back in 2013. It is a bit frustrating to see how “basic” this “remaster” is, since many of the original bugs, glitches and sloppy animation remain as before, but for gamers that have not seen this 1960s detective adventure, it is certainly a nice addition to their gaming library.

Α lazy port of an already poorly envisioned Diablo contender even back in 2006. Titan Quest 2018 does a poor job in the fields of level design, interesting gameplay and overall challenge. The controller response on this console version is a total mystery and the sinuous U.I. leaves little hope for a smooth experience.

A quite praiseworthy videogame, especially considering it was developed mostly by a one-man team. The level design is of top quality and one of the best indicators of how talented Lionel Gallat is, and is accompanied by a rich lore, an extremely likeable protagonist and visuals that are probably the most beautiful ever produced for a 3D game with the use of Unity.

Level 5’s latest endeavor in the realm of JRPGs is a beautiful journey and an excellent choice for fans of Japanese role playing games. It comes with an interesting story, rich content and well written characters that reminded us of the golden age of the genre.

Attack on Titan 2 could easily have been a remaster of the first Attack on Titan, since most of the content is the same as the original title. There is virtually nothing here to justify a new purchase.

It seems that after a continuous flow of releases Supermassive Games has run out of juice. Bravo Team is more or less a “broken” game, an idea that really does not work on any degree and probably the worst 1st party game for the PSVR to date.

Subset Games returns with another utterly clever game, after the amazing FTL. Into the Breach will keep your interest for hours upon hours, thanks to its unique gameplay elements and enormous replayability.

TT Isle of Man is quite a niche racing game. Although it should be a must buy for the motorbikes aficionados it should also be mentioned that it’s hardcore difficulty level and limited content could discourage the less enthusiasts.

Shiny may be functional but ultimately it’s a rather unremarkable platformer with unremarkable challenge and unremarkable ideas.

Frantics is a charming and diverse party game and an excellent showcase for PS4’s PlayLink technology.

Even though the Definitive Edition is a beautiful reimagining of a classic and definite RTS it doesn’t go the extra step to modernize the gameplay or at least fix several issues existing in the 1997 version. The nostalgia factor can drive the experience so much before remembering ultimately the several limitations of this old pioneer.

A classic hero from an ever-popular franchise returns, revamped and better than ever on the Nintendo Switch. Players can experience the original game that was released two years ago with a new twist; a co-op multiplayer mode that is designed to offer hours of fun and entertainment among friends and family members as well.

Past Cure tries to do many things and ultimately fails in all of them.

3D Realms might not want to remake one of its old Duke Nukem masterpieces, but that doesn’t seem to stop them from publishing Interceptor Entertainment’s Rad Rodgers, a humble homage to the long lost era of DOS arcade platformers.

Many remakes and remasters fall short of reaching the success of their predecessors, but Perfect Chronology is not one of those. While the new content is mostly optional and the aesthetics virtually identical, the experience of the first Radiant Historia is preserved the way it should be, with the gameplay tweaks benefiting the overall experience.

Using songs to manipulate the environment is an interesting idea but unfortunately one that feels quite unexplored. Moreover, Fe may draw its inspiration from other acclaimed games, but this inspiration is far too prevalent for its own good.

Warhorse delivers a completely fresh experience, being the first time an open world RPG is set in a truly authentic and grounded medieval setting. The adventure of the likable Henry is filled with unique and expansive quests, with a truly commendable variety in both their objectives and approaching strategies, giving urgency and purpose to the beautifully vibrant and troubled world of Kingdom Come’s Bohemia.

This HD version of Secret of Man is a welcome release, especially for those who want to revisit the adventures of the three young protagonists. Newer gamers though may find the overall design to be dated.

The new Dissidia can be a good choice for those who seek to play with their favorite Final Fantasy characters in an online cooperative-fighting game.

The adventures of the sexy witch were superb when thye were first released on the Wii U and -even though there’s nothing really new to find in this edition- they remain superb on Nintendo’s newest console.

Although Omega Force tried to refresh the series with open world elements in this new entry, unfortunately they did not manage to change their mindset, as the changes are accompanied by all the unpleasant features we are familiar with.

A great choice for those who seek a 2D "anime" fighting game. Under Night in-Birth Exe contains both great content and excellent combat system.

Even though the core WWII game remains one of the better CoD installments the same cannot be said for the Resistance DLC pack. The genuine new content is disappointing in both numbers and quality.

Spellforce 3 mixes two beloved genres, RPGs and RTSs, and even though it does not excel in either gameplay branch it succeeds in delivering a solid, fresh and unique experience. Through a solid story and world building it gives the opportunity for our hero to actually take part in battles in contrast with traditional RPGs, where he is only a spectator.

A great game for newcomers and veteran fans of the franchise alike, that comes with a good learning curve and huge amount of content that includes new areas and monsters which will consume hundreds of hours of your gaming time.

The combination of the huge experience Arc Systems Works has in the genre with the wonderful art and world of Dragon Ball delivered a great 2D fighting game that is masterfully crafted for purists and casual gamers alike.

Sandberg should be proud for delivering such a complete metroidvania game on his own. It may be a bit rough around the edges, but this doesn’t stop it from having competent platforming mechanics but, more importantly, an engrossing story with characters oozing with personality, something of a rarity for the genre.

An artistic and gaming triumph! BluePoint Games has delivered a superb remake that is absolutely faithful to the original masterpiece by Ueda-san and his team. Even if you’ve played and finished the original game or the HD remake for the PS3, you should definitely consider playing this version as well as it is the most beautiful of all.

We were expecting much more from Supermassive Games, the guys behind the sleeper hit Until Dawn. Unfortunately, The Inpatient is a very slow and rather bland prequel to Until Dawn that immediately captivates players with its eerie atmosphere and superb graphics, but fails in almost every other aspect.

Even though Street Fighter V was in our opinion a great game, with this edition Capcom outdone it and took it to the next level. At this point Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is the richest and most complete 2D fighter on the market.

The beautiful platformer from Japan Studio hasn’t lost an ounce of its charm, and in PS4, with the enhanced resolution, it looks and feels better than ever.

Although the game remains virtually the same, the upgrade on the graphics and the fps deliver a better pace and, overall, a better game. If you are looking for a good JRPG, this edition of Star Ocean: The Last Hope is highly recommended.

If you are looking for an epic adventure that will take hours to complete, then Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a must-have! Despite some rather unjustified flaws, it is a game with a satisfying story and cast, wonderful level design, a memorable soundtrack and a deep -yet easy to pick- battle system. A must-have for all Switch owners and a glimpse of the Switch’s bright future ahead.

Those who look for a JRPG which includes a high difficulty challenge that emanates from the player's choices, will surely be satisfied from an all-time classic like Romancing Saga 2.

The spiritual successor of Road Rash, Road Redemption, offers tons of unadulterated fun. Many may find its driving too Arcady for their taste, but the rogue-like campaign experience and the tense off-road battles reward the player. The beautiful OST and a very nice old school oriented couch co-op give the game some extra lift.

Okami was a masterpiece of game design when it was first released, it was a masterpiece in its various remasters and it remains a gaming masterpiece in this edition for the PS4.

It’s quite perplexing that such a derivative dungeon crawler could be developed from the talented Frozenbyte, a studio that in the past brought the especially clever and charming Trine series. Nine parchments only retain the visual appeal (though not without repetition), in an otherwise unremarkable adventure filled with uninspired level design, lack of interesting enemies and an utterly problematic camera.

A game that could have been lots of things. It could have been a tribute to a great franchise that is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary. It could have been a place of reference for active multiplayer gaming that offers pure fun. Instead, it is a collection of mini-games that can be compared to a trip down the memory lane – an opportunity to relive good gaming moments, which is marked by lack of elements that can give this title its proper place into the Mario Party fandom.

At first glance Fallout VR impresses with its huge scale and sheer mass, and it does very well in the action/ shooting/ movement field, but it never manages to captivate a seasoned VR user due to its lack of actual virtual reality gameplay implementations and unintuitive and uncomfortable Pip-Boy controls. A game aspiring to lead the VR-gaming sector should be made for VR from the scratch.

After the release of Skyrim VR we were expecting something similar for Doom. Unfortunately what we got is a quite short spin-off that showcases the perks of VR, but fails to deliver the overall superb experience of the original (2016) Doom.

It is mind boggling how the team behind such a gem like the Book of Unwritten Tales, could take a great series like Black Mirror and release such a poorly designed game. Clunky controls, poor animation, short length, frustratingly many loading screens and an overall lack of polish make us wish the Black Mirror had remained buried underground were it belonged.

A Hat in Time proudly doesn’t shy from showing its inspirations from the 3D platform classics while radiating its own unique personality thanks to charmingly designed worlds (although we could do with a bit more of them!). It is unfortunate then that precise jumping is never as… precise as it should be. Even though it may not hinder the enjoyment by much it is nevertheless a shortcoming in an otherwise especially enjoyable experience.

Definitely not the Pokémon game that is set to include new, groundbreaking gameplay elements. However, it’s the Pokémon game that expands on the original story of the current generation, a game that is able to offer hours of gameplay to the extent that only the Pokémon series can do; but, most importantly, it is a beautiful farewell to the Alola region and to an era of Pokémon games in pure portable consoles. Looking forward to see the new heights Game Freak is going to reach with the upcoming Switch game.

Besides the immersion you get by playing this game in VR mode, there isn’t any real reason to visit the North of Tamriel again. But for those who haven’t experienced Skyrim before and are owners of a PSVR headset, this is probably the best edition to choose.

Sonic Forces has the power and the duration of fireworks. It is at points spectacularly beautiful and smooth, but it is extremely short, easy and offers little you have not seen before.

There are no actual improvements to the original game (besides the 4K resolution and some minor tweaks), but that’s perfectly fine with us. L.A. Noire is today as charming as it was when it originally came out and is probably the best depiction of a 40’s era L.A. in video games to date.

The sequel of Hand of Fate convinced us that its unique mix of card game and real-time combat could be more than a one-shot gimmick, though it still has a long road to achieve an even quality across all its areas. The card side of the game may be vastly improved, but the real-time combat is the part that is still quite underwhelming. Hopefully in the next iteration we'll see the combat receiving the same attention as the card side of the game.

Besides the nostalgia that can bring up to the ones that have played the original version, and a decent story, the remake/ remaster of Outcast is full of technical issues and a design that hasn’t aged well at all.

Rarely have we witnessed such a betrayal of a perfectly good game by the very company that owns it. Drawing the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, Battlefront 2’s progression system and Loot-fest extravaganza are downright hostile to the people who just want to enjoy the game. EA seems to have taken on the corrupted mantle of the Emperor and, despite the truly awe-inspiring Star Wars themed playground that DICE has faithfully built, Battlefront 2 has an unpleasant Anakin Skywalker vibe to it.

Even though some aspects of the game, like the visuals and the roster- have been much improved, this year’s WWE suffers from a shallow My Career mode some bugs and, of course, loot boxes.

Α good choice for those who are looking for a fast paced, easy to pick up action-RPG game with charming visuals.

Changing the setting was a wise choice, but that is not enough. In the end, the feeling you get from WWII is that of a good game, but it's something we've seen many times before - from the cliche World War II campaign and the repetitive zombies mode to the balanced multiplayer modes that later get filled with lootboxes containing stronger weapons.

So much talk around 2015’s reboot of the franchise, but still the Need for Speed series seems to be going nowhere specifically. For every step forward, Payback takes two steps back and it’s pretty obvious how. A mediocre story, poor customization choices, a controversial and completely out of place - at best – incorporation of Cards and Loot mechanisms ruin a great racing game that hides underneath.

With some very well implemented graphical improvements, new and tougher enemies to fight and a new story that lasts about 15 hours, the Frozen Wilds expansion for Guerrilla's action-RPG is a great addition to the lore and ideal for those who enjoyed the original game.

Elex is the RPG game of the old era, made by the old guard for the old guard. It has a lot of charm and magic hidden inside its massive world but its clunky elements will probably prove to be a dealbreaker for newer gamers that didn’t grew up with the same issues that persist Piranha Bytes games since Gothic.

It’s an entirely safe option for younger children, which will surely enjoy it’s low difficulty and easy environmental riddles. Fans of the genre though will have to look elsewhere, unless they want to go through it in under 5 hours with 100% completion while being on “autopilot”.

Improving in almost every single aspect of the original game -and its stand alone expansion- The New Colossus takes many bold steps with its story narrative and delivers and unprecedented gaming experience for the genre that will be much talked about in the years to come.

AC Origins is definitely a back to the roots (story and gameplay wise) effort with a great setting, a well written script and amazing visual department. The action rpg elements, though well implemented, leave much to be desired and side quests are blunt and indifferent. However, the late Hellenistic Egypt is a vibrant world with much to do and many secrets to unveil.

Easily considered a “remastered” version of Spelunker World, Spelunker Party comes to Switch without its free-to-play features, but with the fun and gameplay intact and with a multiplayer version that adds more to the overall experience. Despite some minor issues, the game can be easily picked up by people of all ages and its addictive gameplay is an ideal suggestion to fans of handheld gaming who can play it on the go, alone or with their friends.

Ubisoft makes a good attempt to continue the legend of Obsidian, with some good gameplay improvements and nailing down the spirit of the show. The uneven pace of the story though, together with a half-baked crafting system and low quality filler type quests, keep the game from reaching the heights of its predecessor.

We wanted to explore the world of Hob from the first minute we set our foot in it, thanks to the attractive visuals and its precise gameplay controls that helped made platforming a joy. It’s too bad that combat seemed to be an afterthought, but nevertheless Runic crafted a beautiful, mythical environment.

In the genre of top-down action games there are far more competent choices. Ruiner seems to be over the top hard just for the sake of being hard, neglecting in the process to incorporate satisfying melee or shooting gameplay. Moreover, it may have the looks, thanks to the use of Unreal Engine 4, but its factory focused environments are extremely tiresome.

The impressive selection of different mechas and a solid gameplay base are just not enough to make this game stand out when you consider its severe lack of solo material, the loss of the splitscreen mode and the low budget simplicity of its design and its localization, or lack thereof.

A sequel that dares to go into the open world territory and do it right by creating a space that functions in its entirety in favor of the story, horror atmosphere and gameplay, without hindering its pace in the least. It may have its own share of caveats, but, nevertheless, The Evil Within 2 is a highly commendable sequel.

Gran Turismo Sport marks a new era for the series and its online system is now a benchmark for the racing genre. It looks great, it feels great and it provided us with some of the most intense and “clean” racing experiences of our lives.

Shadow of War is an inconsistent mess of repetitive gameplay, really bad implemented fighting system, gameplay exploits and an indifferent and lacking respect for the original material story. The presentation is reminiscent of the 360 era and hastiness is a common feature for every aspect of the game.

In its day Rogue Trooper was a solid and enjoyable third person shooter that was quite faithful to the original content of the comics. The same goes for this edition -of course- but in 2017, even in its “remastered” state, it looks dated and left behind by almost every other game in the genre.

Fire Emblem Warriors offers a great mix of the “warriors” gameplay and the interesting characters and beautiful art direction from the universe of the Fire Emblem series.

Unfortunately the adaptive A.I., which learns from our actions, is more of a gimmick than a true innovation. On top of that the basic stealth mechanics and the beautiful yet repetitive setting of the Palace can’t help but make us feel exhausted even in the somewhat short length of the game.

One of the most important Mario RPG games that was a hit for the GBA console makes a comeback that suits Nintendo 3DS better and gives the younger audience a chance to experience a great adventure. However, older gamers will not really find a good reason to return, as the script and the mechanics are the same as the previous game and Bowser’s mission will easily become a repetitive addition.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar is able to offer many pleasant afternoon gaming sessions. The depth of the lore, the strong characters and the decent presentation will keep dragging you back for a long time. Until repetition takes over, that is, along with the taxation brought by the unstable curve of difficulty. It may be, that you can finish it with pleasure or quit. Perhaps boredom will keep you away, perhaps the unique nature of its characters will leave you stranded on its mana-filled island. Whichever the case may be, you are assured to have a sweet fantasy gaming autumn, as long as you maintain a two-hour session every day.

An immersive gaming experience that will have you travelling through a plethora of kingdoms, with many secrets to discover and many opportunities to experience the unique features of the console. A game that is sure to make Miyamoto-san proud of the newer teams working on the Super Mario Universe.

Even though it has the charming concept of the magical girl games, Blue Reflection falls flat due to its continuous recycling of the same content over and over again.

An absolute masterpiece, an RPG game that people will be talking about for decades to come.

The new areas and new Yo-Kai creatures don’t justify the purchase of Psychic Specters for those who already have the previous versions, but for everyone else (especially for those who love the Pokemon games) the rich world and the improved battle system make this game a must-have.

This is probably the most complete and rich sports game that has ever been created with tons of content and amazing graphics. But that doesn’t mean it is free from flaws like the problematic A.I. and the toned down defense that actually creates many issues with the gameplay.

With almost real-life physics, a superb handling model and probably the best graphics in any racer of this generation, Forza Motorsport 7 is a serious contester for the title of racing game of the year.

Layton's Mystery Journey is the point of change for the popular adventure/ puzzle series. Even though Level-5 tried hard to retain the essence of the franchise we can’t overlook the unnecessary repetition of many puzzles and the fact that Kat is not as a charming character as her father was.

Ever since the first extremely small teaser from the E3 of 2014 we anticipated that Cuphead would be a unique platformer. StudioMDHR managed to deliver on its promise giving us a breadth of utterly enjoyable boss fights. Of course, it goes without saying that the unique and beautiful visuals are a selling point on their own.

By offering a new and quite likable cast, an interesting story and a big improvement on the mini-games, Danganronpa V3 will surely satisfy the fans of this unique visual novel series.

It’s a Capcom game so you know by definition that it will deliver great gameplay. Besides that, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite struggles to become Capcom’s Injustice, but fails due to its lack of content, poor graphics and overall low production values.

It still has a lot of miles to go -if Sony wants Knack to become something of a mascot- but we can’t deny that Knack II is a major improvement over the first game in each and every way.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is an improved sequel in almost every aspect, compared with the first one. The act of digging can’t get much more fun thanks to the simplistic yet highly engrossing gameplay. It helps that the union of western tropes with steampunk is such a charming combination.

Even though it has lots of shortcomings and it’s not suitable for everyone, Fragments of Him deals with sensitive subjects in a delicate way and offers a unique two-hour journey to the human emotions.

When Pokemon meets Tekken, wild brawls are about to take place in the Ferrum region. A fun addition for the Nintendo Switch; might not be able to easily persuade old players to give it a try again, but can easily win the hearts of newcomers with a gameplay that is compelling, deep and addictive.

Overall Destiny 2 manages to satisfy while it fails to impress. Even though it certainly offers way more content than its predecessor, it does not strive to make a bold step to exceed expectations. Some may say that this should not have been a sequel in the first place and they are not entirely wrong. From a technical standpoint and judging by the abundance of content, it rightfully deserves to be called a sequel. However, when it comes to the story and campaign, it could have just as easily been another expansion to Destiny.

A true sports simulator of the highest quality, offering the complete package for every basketball fan. Amazing gameplay and visuals, shiny presentation, a parade of big names and – you guessed it - microtransactions. Lots of them. For a game that supposedly represents the urban hoods and the streets, it often feels like a consumer stroll through a digital Walmart…

Utawarerumono Mask of Truth is a hybrid JRPG/ Visual novel that gives a long awaited closure to the series. A closure that will satisfy everyone who has been waiting for the end of this saga for so many years.
