With Minecraft Legends, Mojang has hit the bull's-eye again. The attempt to overturn a usually complex genre to make it perfectly accessible to gamers of all ages has been successful, without however renouncing a layered gameplay, capable of giving satisfaction even to those who want to invest time in online modes. Of course, we would have liked some more content at launch and a greater variety in terms of both the single player and online components, but we are confident in post-launch support, usually one of the studio's flagships.

In spite of those who since the announcement have criticized Square Enix's choice to set aside the Valkyrie Profile turn-based combat system, the spin-off packaged by Soleil has entertained us with a solid and varied playful mixture, a level of challenge satisfying and a lot of strategy. What is not convincing, however, are the renounced narrative component and the dated technical sector, which suggest obvious problems related to the budget. Ultimately, Valkyrie Elysium may not have fully hit the target, yet we are convinced that, with the right investments, the playful formula synthesized by the Soleil studio could prove to be a winner. In this sense, the hope is that a possible sequel will then be able to express the full potential of the spin-off.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is an appetizer prepared for fans of Murayama's work who can't quench their appetite while waiting for Hundred Heroes. With obvious limitations and problems that are not always easily digestible, Rising is a work recommended mostly to all those who do not want to miss a single piece of the universe of Eiuyuden Chronicle. If played with the right awareness of its reduced ambitions (also thanks to a budget price of 15 euros), it can still turn out to be a pleasant interlude in an action-RPG sauce: simple, long-lived enough and with a good artistic direction.

Currently, FBC Firebreak is a cooperative shooter that entertains for a few hours, but it doesn't have a solid enough structure to engage the player to the point of pushing them to repeat the same activities over and over again. Ultimately, the HD remastering of The Legend of Legacy shows the same structural and content problems that plagued the original. It is a rather unique game that deviates from some classic JRPG styles to propose its own, very personal vision which, however, leaves out too many of the elements that have made this particular video game category great. We appreciated the work done on the visual component, but the disappointing narrative structure and the aforementioned critical gameplay issues do not allow the game to really stand out. If you are an avid fan of the genre and are looking for a project that is a little different from the usual, you could give it a chance, otherwise today's market offers alternatives of a very different caliber.

Akimbot's adventure isn't unpleasant, but its shortcomings are evident. The potential of the combat has remained partly unexpressed, either because of some weapons that are too standard, or because of the limitations of the more particular and powerful ones. Then there's the platforming, which has its moments of brilliance, but is accompanied by phases that are far less successful and with an inconsistent pace. The gameplay structure rests on a story with "forecast" developments, which fails to enhance the game's most interesting characters. That said, if you remember the golden age of action platformers with nostalgia, you could still give Evil Raptor's title a chance.

Deliver at all Costs, the debut on the scene of the Swedish Far Out Games, presents itself as a solid experience, capable of combining a gameplay aimed at the purest action, a notable environmental destructibility and retro setting with a good dose of originality, all clear indications of the crystalline talent of the newborn development company from Gothenburg. Thanks also to a convincing writing of the story and its characters, it is a title that, despite some limitations, deserves attention, especially considering the price at which it is proposed (we are talking about €29.99 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation). The only regret is for some naivety on the structural and content level that do not allow it to aspire to the qualitative heights it would have deserved.

Its sandy world is pleasant to explore and contains a secondary offering that - while not straying from what we have seen in other exponents of the open world genre - expands the hour count in an uncontrived way. The clashes at the center of the experience are satisfying, thanks to the well-constructed combat system. A good longevity and a series of precautions that make the title more accessible for non-experts of the genre, unfortunately, are not enough to raise the overall quality of the production, aggravated by an approximate technical realization and a gameplay not adequately finished. If you have already completed both the entire From Software library of works and the other exponents of the genre, and nevertheless you still thirst for soulslike, Pascal's Wager could still be for you: the important thing is not to have high expectations, and to be willing to close an eye before the limits of the work.

God of War: Sons of Sparta is a solid Metroidvania, but it doesn't do anything more or less than many other exponents of the genre. It works, it entertains, and it flows smoothly, but it rarely surprises. The story of Kratos's adolescence and his relationship with Deimos are the heart of the experience, offering a more intimate look at a character we're used to seeing in a completely different light. The idea works, but it's held together by a rather conservative gameplay structure, with redundant combat, a lackluster level design, and an art direction that favors nostalgic homage over originality. The result is an enjoyable but rather standard prequel, closer to a narrative interlude than a fundamental piece of the saga. Kratos fans will still find something to interest them, as will those looking for an accessible Metroidvania without too many rough edges. Those looking for a chapter that will leave their mark will, however, feel like an opportunity only partially exploited.
