Gat Out of Hell is a very nice expansion which offers hours of gameplay. The humor we know from previous parts is there and much more. The graphics are a little disappointing, but despite that it's simply a must play.

Gat Out of Hell comes up short in mission variety, but concludes in a tantalizing way: with five different endings. Could one of them point to the future of the series? Time will tell, but if this is indeed the last hurrah for this continuity of the 3rd Street Saints, it’s been a hell of a ride, Volition.

Gat out of Hell gives you more stuff to do, and is mildly entertaining while it lasts, but it's not a patch on the core game it comes with. If thought of as the side course to the main dish, this is fine. Newcomers will find a lot to enjoy, but there's little reason to return if a dive into Hell is what you were looking forward to.

If Saints Row‘s meta humor can get you through collecting your hundredth orb or doing the same type of mission on repeat, you may want to check out GOH. But, if not, I’d recommend staying away from this one, as it burns itself out a bit too quick.

By tying humor and outrageous context to its moving parts, Saints Row The Third and Saints Row IV became viable systems in the modern open-world paradigm. Gat out of Hell (mostly) forgets all of this, sheds (mostly) all of its psychotic humor, and bolts on (mostly) dated mechanics.

While its fun to see how absurd those distractions get that only makes it harder and harder to pretend you’re playing a real game, with consequences and genuine danger. Despite all that we’re curious to see what Violation will do for their first next gen-only sequel, but for now this second expansion is probably best left to burn.

True, Saints Row games aren't really best at story telling, but Gat Out of Hell has two of the last surviving humans from Saints Row IV willingly travel to Hell to get back the President, and causing such a ruckus in the neighborhood, all leading to a showdown with Satan himself. Well for being as epic as it sounds, it's just meh. The boss battle takes a few minutes, it doesn't feel epic, really just feels like you're fighting a tank enemy that teleports and throws some little guys at you. The main story is about 5 missions and can be completed in about an hour, but the game restricts you from progressing by making you do open world game play to reach a certain rank. That's completely fine, and understandable even, but the open world game play here is tedious and too much filler.

Other Saints Row games had a lot of story content (and better story content too), which made the open world game play better. It was a nice break from the action, and never felt like a chore. Here, 90% of the game is open world game play, so it's pretty much all filler. The super powers are back once again, and I only used like 2 of the new powers throughout the whole game because they were so OP. The rest weren't as useful or as powerful, or as easy to use, and I only used them for the related challenges. The game is heavily grind-oriented in that aspect.

The world of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is just a re-imagined Steel Port with a Hell skin, and for an expansion pack that's fine, but how many times are we gonna take over Steel Port in these games? Mix it up! Saints Row IV had us become President of the US! Let's take over some other areas for a change.

Overall the game has a lot of standard Saints Row humor, and the writing is still entertaining and well-delivered, but all the filler content and epic story with mediocre execution just doesn't make this as good a game as Saints Row the Third or Saints Row IV

Its not a total disaster (if you liked IV you'll probably find something to enjoy here) but the awkward controls and repetitive nature of many of the missions, that have plagued the series since it began, are becoming harder and harder to forgive and this series really needs to make big changes if I'm going to invest any more time to it.
