theHunter: Call of the Wild clearly provides with a realistic feel of hunting. Seasoned hunters would adore it, but it may push away casual players.

Freedom of exploration, complex ecosystem and breathtaking visuals result in an unbelievably strong sense of communing with nature, but horrible UI, some design flaws and common glitches undermine theHunter’s value. Nonetheless it’s a unique game worth checking out. [04/2017, p.52]

If hunting is your bag then theHunter is a game which could very much tick all the right boxes for you. Compared to the competition I’ve experienced this is right there at the top of the pile, and it’s a game which is only going to grow as Expansive Worlds continues to layer it with more content.

Boasts some beautiful, convincing countryside to hunt in, but the glacial pace will challenge the limits of most people’s patience.

When theHunter: Call of the Wild works properly, it’s still going to be a game that only those with the patience of a saint would enjoy. It’s very slow, full of barriers, and isn’t very exciting. That’s not to say it’s not completely without merit as it’s a stunner to look at and there are rare occasions where everything comes together to make a compelling experience. Just note that those rare occasions are few and far between.

It´s starts a little slow, but once you learn its dynamics it grows (hugely) on you! The hunting experience can be very challenging but super rewarding at the end. Shooting and eventually chasing the animal and tracking its blood trail are one of the coolest things in the game. The Graphics on "ultra setting" is the closest to a real life ambient I´ve ever seen, truly immersive experience! Night time, sunny, cloudy, rain, fog, dusk, dawn, thunders, lightning, wind gusts... you name it, the game recreated them perfectly. Sometimes I just grab the ATV and ride around to enjoy the landscape. I cannot stress enough how good this game is! 10! Expand

It recently went out on deep discounts, and wow, they have really been expanding the game since 2017. They overhauled the engine and smoothed a lot of the jank out. Is there a bunch of stuff behind payment walls? Yes. I got the game for free and happily bought all the DLC. it was totally worth it. If you're okay going out and trying to bag a deer only to not see anything for an hour, then this game is for you. If that sounds like insanity, don't pick this game up. Once you put some time in, the scope of what they've actually built here sets in. It's amazing. The bloodhound DLC really adds a lot. I highly recommend it. Expand

Expect to be stalking or luring your prey for some time before you can get to make a shot. The graphics are AMAZING. Maxed out it's incredible. The sound is very realistic, and they're clearly samples from real animals that were recorded. There are two maps that are both very large: Europe and North America. Wildlife varies from animals like elk, moose, coyote, bears, deer, boar, etc. It could use a few more weapons. This game would be perfect if it had duck hunting. It's the best nature simulator out there. Expand

Alot of people I see are basing their reviews off of graphics, the problem is although being one of the best hunting games on the market right now there are a number of online connection issues and syncing issues with multiplayer. The animal ai is decent but could use some more refinement and polishing for sure.

The game supports several reserves optional to buy, you get some reserves with the game itself and one of the best reserves still to this day is the Pac Northwest Layton Lakes reserve that comes with the game. A wide variety of big game and small game to hunt, the progression system to unlock new weapons is very slow though, I believe this was geared down intentionally to nudge people towards the dlc packs for weapons and tools etc.

If you're a hunting fan and a gamer, here is one of the best hunting sims we have available today.

    Thehunter call of the wild

    Thehunter call of the wild
focused on realism in the wrong places
Thehunter call of the wild is a hunting simulation with tons of promise and potential..
the world is beautiful, there are cool mechanics to make hunting intriguing…
but call of the wild ultimately forgets to make this game feel like a game…
You starts call of the wild by choosing youre character then youre set into the world and get a quick rundown on how things work..
theres a mission structure here, but you can ignore all of this and just go hunting on your own…
I was impressed with the lighting and graphics of this game… there are ubisoft like outposts that mark locations on your map to uncover for experience or fast travel points to buy new weapons and ammo with the cash earned from completing missions or hunting on your own…
there are blinds oyu can build with your cash to lure animals into an area and take them out…
and the idea of hunting in this game at first seems really cool..
as you walk around youll see tracks all over the place and you can examine them and by doing so the game will tell you which animal these tracks belong to.. really helpful for the games missions…
you then follow these tracks and depending on how old there are they can lead you right to the animal.. their resting area or where they eat..
and while youre hunting them down you have to be cautious of both the wind and the amount of noise you make..
theres a compass telling you the direction the winds blowing and if an animal picks up on your scent they’ll run.. they’ll also give you warning calls if youre close and making too much noise..
I was ready for all of this..
however hunting here is far more tedious than that set up makes it sound..
it isn’t like a witch contract where you search an area for a while..
tracking down animals can take you thousands of kilometers away from your starting point
only going off of a cone on your cell phone which acts as your mini map to find the next point of interest…
tracking down just one animal can easily take 30 minutes and its just not fun..
youd think maybe youll run into other animals while hunting this one, but it doesn’t happen..
the world feels like a ghost town…
the rarity of animals makes this feel more like a hiking while animals in the distance mock you simulator…
and again you can find where animals feed and the time they do so..
so I went to a resting place. .waiting until the time an animal I was hunting for a story mission was supposed to eat and I waited for a 30 minute window and they never showed up…
how are spawns not frequent in this feeding window…
make this simulator at least a little video gamey..
its hunting without the reward of food at the end of it all…
so at least let me have a little fun with it..
there are 2 separate reservers here.. though each reserve shares the same 12 animals specials.. though 6 of those 12 being a type of deer.. so the hunting variety is pretty lacking…
the 2nd map is less beautiful and much smaller.. and felt a little too populated…
but I cant complain ive been waiting 5 hours to see an animal to shoot and when I went here I was seeing like 20 all bunched up..
and I shoot.. and theyre just not falling…
the lack of realism when it comes to shooting the animal is the most annoying part of all of this..
when you do finally track one down.. theres no satisfaction of dropping them…
you shoot them and chase them until they bleed out
and while wounded they all of a sudden turn into speed gonzoles..
theyre out of there and you have to get your vanessa carlton on and follow their blood trail for 1000 miles
though youre ranked on how little they suffer.. so aiming for vitals through this games ridiculous amount of sway is rewarded.. and youre paid and earn xp accordingly
xp that goes into a leveling system and gives you skill and perk points to dump into your weapons and hunting abilities…
The world again is beautiful and varried… but this game is really for the patient type that don’t mind the tedium of checking how fresh deer poop is just to come to a dead end and start again on a new track…
I give Thehunter call of the wild
    a 6.0/10

Crushed a mtn dew right as the download finished. My headset fully charged and ands were warmed up. I COULD NOT contain my excitement. Hopped on in with my friend dr. B and we were on our way…. On our way to the most excruciating gaming journey of our lifetime. This has to be one of the worst games ever developed. The people who put this game out there should be ashamed of theirselves. All of the poor souls who didn’t wait 6 years for this game to be in game pass should reimbursed their $20 along with a settlement of 1 billlion dollars. I’m surprised I’m not in a coma after sitting there for two hours, wishing I could shoot the developers in game. Please for the love of god, take this game off of all platforms. Expand
